[ A few weeks into October, Wynn sends a message back to the castle asking Snow and Regina to make their way to the Isle, saying he has a small matter that bears investigation.  When they arrive at the castle, they're ushered by Woodhouse to a small parlor where he's waiting...  And moments later, their other mission partner arrives. :D ]

We need to make certain it hasn't left any lingering effects. Do you possess magic, on your own?

[He shakes his head very decisively.]

[ Emma is side-eyeing the fuck out of him for that because she certainly doesn't know if she can trust him, but with her sense motive of 46, she at least believes him. ]

Can something be capable of that? To just give someone magic? Or do you think it was already there and hadn't expressed itself somehow?

There are a great number of arguments held between magical scholars to this day about the very nature of magic. Where it comes from, what it actually is, and how some are able to harness it and others are not. We have seen evidence that magic is tied to the blood, that those whose parents could practice it are often more likely to be able to do so themselves, whether they've ever actually delved into learning it or no.

[ That pings her interest, and she glances up, brow furrowed like something isn't quite adding up for her—neither of her parents are magical, after all—but she opts to keep her mouth shut because she doesn't like sharing personal matters in front of shitstain over there. ]

[Meanwhile Neal looks like he might be sick. The idea that he might just... develop magical abilities is basically his worst nightmare.]

So how do we know for sure?

Back at the castle, with myself and other mages present who can... control the situation, if need be.

[ When Emma looks at Mary Margaret, she's visibly wounded. But injury turns to drawn battle lines, and she balks, hackles raising. ]

[ Ok, an adult teenager, but he can't have been in this world more than 5 years and he couldn't have been more than 13 when he came over SO math tells me this is accurate even tho I'm otherwise unsure.

He'd be choosing to give family a chance. [She might be making all this a little personal now, oops.] And I don't see anything wrong with that.

Because you don't know what he'll end up missing out on if he doesn't get to make it in the first place.

[Somehow she keeps herself from shouting. Barely.]
