Lila had basically commandeered Astrid's birthday months ago, all but demanding that Astrid let her plan her party while... it was still Faye's birthday. By the time she is done decorating, it looks like Pintrest collided with Queen Regina and puked black and white Halloween drama all over the room. Glittery skulls, blood red candy apples, candles flickering in black lacquered candelabras. Is that raven real? Probably. Is that skeleton real?

Maybe. Y'all don't know what tricks this girl can do. Maybe Slenderman will show up.

The lights are dim and there is an entire table stacked with cupcakes and cookies and other assorted nibbles and hor d'oeuvres, shoved up against the bar where bottles of every kind of alcohol imaginable are just spread out willy nilly amongst mixers and juices. Bet your ass there is Fireball around. There's soda and punch for the teetotalers, but with far less variety than the liquor. There are even party favor bags for the end of the night stuffed with nips of peach schnapps, Jagermeister, and cranberry juice (the recipe for a red headed slut) and various jewels and baubles, plastic Starbucks cups, hella neon nail polish. And condoms. They are all jammed with condoms.

Invitations aren't sent so much as Lila and Astrid invite every single person they know and don't loathe. Costumes are a requirement, but presents are just highly encouraged. But it's Astrid's birthday, okay? Presents are a must.

And no one is allowed to dress like Jessica Rabbit on pain of... well, pain.

It's pretty hard not to top the charts when I was five pounds of barely mobile white fluff. You'd've been fighting a losing battle. [ her finger twirls around a curl absently, thoughtful. ] Unless... can you shapeshift into kittens?

[She could be a dwarf, though. Or maybe a goblin. But no thank you.]

MY cousin tried to kill me to take over the family, but my best friend turned me into a cat instead. Boys are fucking morons.

Right? How did Anton think that was really going to work? But he was a sociopath, he didn't take into account that Cassel wasn't about to murder his best friend. And then they just wiped his memory and made him think he did actually kill me so he wouldn't wonder about where Barron's brand new little kitten came from. [ all said like it's no big dealio. ]

But Anton is dead now. [ her lips curve up into a smile. ] I always land on my feet.

[She did not follow any of that, other than this Anton being a sociopath.

So as far as that's concerned?]

Good riddance. [She curious, though.] What was it like, though? Being a cat?

Honest answer or easy answer?

[ she's only giving elena the choice because she knows elena will understand the honest answer. ]

[ she tosses back the remainder of her drink, letting the glass dangle loosely in her fingers. ]

It could be cool, but mostly it was awful. [ her lips press together, but she makes it look more like annoyance and less like it was the worst three years of her life. or tries to. (bluff 38) ] After a while I started forgetting, that I was a person. I had to tell myself stories to remind myself that I was a teenage girl.

[ as she talks she reaches over and grabs her vodka, pouring herself a new glass, mixing in her usual pink lemonade with careful, precise movements. ]

Anton made Barron keep a shock collar on me so I couldn't run away. I tried, so many times, but I was too small and the boys were fast, they learned to expect it every time they let me out of the cage.

So shock collar it was. Barron was like me, a worker. All the Sharpes were. But he was a memory worker, so Barron had a tendency to forget that his pet cat was actually the girl he used to date. [ her tone very briefly turns almost sad when she mentions barron, pitying. he was an ass, but he was made that was by circumstance and his curse work and his god damn psychotic mother. ] He'd forget to feed me too, that was nice. Forget to clean the cage, forget to get someone to watch me when he went to Mexico for spring break for a week. The only time they let me out was to kill people -- I would sneak in as a cat, curse them to sleepwalk outside, Cassel would kill them before Barron wiped his memory again. We were actually a pretty good assassin team.

[ down the hatch her drink goes, a huge fortifying gulp. ] I'm sure it might be nice, for other people. But it sucked. All of it.

[ she stares at her glass, swirling the drink with her straw. ] Sometimes I still wake up and forget I'm a person.

I don't think it would be nice for anyone, not if it lasted longer than a couple hours.

[Elena can relate to some of it, in a strange way. She wasn't an animal or anything, but changing shape like that, being something else every day, it left you forgetting who you were sometimes in a way that you didn't expect.]

How did you get away?

[bittersweeter]

I figured out how to get the shock collar off. Barron forgot to shut the cage. [ she rubs her forehead with the back of her hand, hand drifting to slide her fingers over the shell of her ear, faint scar left from clawing at herself hidden by her curls. ] I just ran away.

I hope you got to go back and drop pianos on their heads.

[They deserved at least that much for doing that kind of thing.]

Anton's dead. Philip's dead. [ she shrugs, putting up that wall of absolute uncaring again. (bluff 52) they're trash and not worth her time. ]

Good riddance.

[Even if it's just a bluff, that doesn't make it untrue. She doesn't catch it, though (sense motive 28), despite her doing that exact thing on the daily.]

I'll drink to that. [ jk she just wants to drink more so she's going to toss the rest of her glass back like a professional drunk. which, to be fair, she basically is. ]

[She'll lift her glass in reply, doing the same.]

I think that's enough heavy talk for one evening. Time for more drinks, instead.
