Chai liked to get out of the castle. It was big and intimidating and full of people who all seemed to have a lot more reasons for being there than she ever did. She was still figuring a lot of things out and the castle just got to be a little overwhelming at times.
So she went out to the nearest places when she wasn't busy with chores like manning the front desk or polishing armor or reorganizing hard drives or whatever else someone found for her to do.
Today had really just been an excuse to sit at the coffee shop for a while and browse the internet on her laptop, snap the occasional pictures with her camera. Candids of other customers mostly. It was on her way back that things got interesting. She was being tailed by a floppy eared beagle pup, happily wagging as it followed six or seven feet behind her. She didn't even notice at first, and once she did she had taken a few snaps of her with the camera and coaxed her over with a carob bar from her pocket.
Chai and strays had a history of being a bad combination, and as usual this was no exception. She scooped the furry little stray up in her arms and carried her back to the castle, carrying on a long and involved conversation about idiot boys and their runs with her as she walked.
Of course this meant as soon as she got back to the castle it was overly-energetic romping time as the two of them played up and down the entry hall. Once the puppy settled down, Chai settled cross-legged in the middle of the hall and clicked pictures of the drowsy puppy chasing its tail or sun shadows on the floor.
