The morning after, the Knights board a plane at their private airfield, and begin the couple hour flight to the country of Slovechnia.  Wynn has laid out a plan for them as such, leaving Sir Gar in charge of seeing it executed:  they are to send in a few Knights to infiltrate the wedding, while others steal an ambulance from a local hospital.  Using magic to make Sarandis think he's having a heart attack during the ceremony, they will intercept the outgoing call to the paramedics, and pose as them to take him out of there and straight to a private airfield to meet with Wynn.  They're all aware, however, of just how smoothly their plans tend to go where these villains are involved - especially if the Mind Master shows up.  

Either way, it promises to be an interesting day...

[ it's the inside of an ambulance idk what you want here. gar sets up kat's laptop back here, and they park up the road, ready for their eventual cue... ]

Ya know--I've never been to a wedding. [ Steve says idly from within the ambulance. ]

[pathology]

[astrid is up front in the passenger seat, so she cranes her neck to reply] They're kind of cool. And kind of boring. It's a good excuse to dress up and eat cake, though.

[allmydreams]

[She smirks at that.]

Seconding that. It depends on how involved the couple wants the ceremony. When it's me - quick vows, more party.

[rationalizes]

I think they're quite romantic, really. [ gar can't help the little smile that creeps up her face, her thumb sliding over her own engagement ring. but then she looks out the window and amends: ] ... When they don't involve despotic sociopaths, that is.

[recruited]

Back in my time most guys wanted to get married before the war. They were all scared they were gonna die out there.

[ Steve included. He wanted to find the right dame and settle down. Now--he's not sure. He doesn't think he needs it anymore. ]

I agree with you though. They are romantic. [ He nods to Gar. ]

[pathology]

[she makes a small sniffing noise at all the sentimentality.] My wedding's going to be huge.

[rationalizes]

[ astrid's comment provokes a little smile from her ] A lot of people wonder why Jack and I don't do the same. [ she nods to steve ] There's so much uncertainty in the future, and so much danger ahead, but... we both feel like there's an article of faith in believing that we'll both see it through. That it can be a reward at the end of the road, in a way, where we can face a future together that doesn't necessarily involve circumventing the end of the world.

I don't think the size really matters for me. I also would think it romantic if I was being married by Elvis in Vegas if it was the right person.

[Felicity does not have conventional views on marriage. All that really matters is the person she's marrying. Then she turns to Gar.]

But that's smart. Kind of like a light at the end of the tunnel.

Jack? [ He looks at Gar kind of confused and then he gets it. He never even knew that Jack had a girlfriend or even someone he wanted to marry. This was kind of shocking for him. Still interesting. ] He was my Knight. Well, before the whole Colossus decapitating incident. [ He still feels bad about getting part of the castle crushed. His head whips over to Felicity though. ] Wait. I remember reading he died. How does that work? [ Aw, Steve, you're so old. ]

[allmydreams]

[Felicity laughs, before nodding.]

He did. It's an impersonator.

[rationalizes]

[ gar throws steve a smile ] As she says. And yes, Jack told me quite a bit about you actually. We both thought you would be a good fit for this venture.

[recruited]

They impersonate him? Why?

[ He doesn't get it. Like at all. ]

He did? I didn't even think--wow. [ Steve smiles to himself. Clearly like a happy kid because dad told someone he did good. ]

[allmydreams]

[Because Elvis is clearly important subject matter:]

It's a Las Vegas tradition. Keeps the memory of the King alive.

Fair enough. I guess I get it.

[ This shit is really hard. Why is modern stuff so weird? ]

Are the impersonators any good?

[pathology]

[astrid is like really are we talking about impersonators right now???? and stares out the window like a dog yearning for the outside.]

[It's better than talking about serious stuff, in Felicity's opinion. Or uncomfortable silence.]

Some of 'em, yeah. Some are just ridiculous, but in a bad way.

[If that makes any sense at all.]

[rationalizes]

They're a bit rarer to come by in England, admittedly.

[recruited]

Well, I imagine so. [ He smiles at Gar before looking at Felicity. ] What exactly do you mean? [ Please tell him more about these awful impersonators. ]

[allmydreams]

Well, it depends on your dedication to the craft, really. Capturing the spirit of the person you're impersonating. Most other impersonators of other people really do it for laughs, but with Elvis, if you do it really well it's more like a tribute.

[And thankfully, to derail this conversation, Spike's text comes in and Felicity immediately goes to her phone.]

That's a heartening sign. Only not at all.

[rationalizes]

[ gar reads it as well, casting a troubled look at the others, but keeping her calm. We knew this might happen. We're as ready as we can be.

[recruited]

[ Steve does read the text from Spike. He looks a little thrown because despite them mentioning his name before Steve's a little thrown. He looks from Felicity then back to Gar. He hesitates to speak, but then Rose is in his ear and he frowns. He bites his tongue on asking about Crombe from Gar though. Another time. ]

[allmydreams]

[Her head tips to the side at Rose's message for a moment, before frowning even more. She catches the look on Steve's face and while she doesn't know what he's hesitating about asking, she can at least see that he's thrown by something (sense motive 11).]

You okay?

[rationalizes]

[ with felicity pointing it out, gar seems to pick up on steve's confusion as well (sense motive 18) ] Draken Crombe. The head of the Anti-Shadowkind Church to which Dimitris Sarandis belongs. The one spearheading this entire operation with NOVA Records and the Nightmare Lord's seal, as far as we understand it.

[rationalizes]

[ annnnd after all the chaos begins erupting, suddenly the laptop is ringing, and gar's fingers fly across the screen as she pulls on a headset and gestures to the others to be quiet as she answers in slovechnian, keeping a tab open for translation purposes as she reads off from an emergency dispatch script.

when she's done, she pulls off the headset and turns to astrid, felicity, and steve. ] You're on. [ with that, she closes the lid, and moves to the driver's seat ]
