[Earlier in the week all DRAKENET devices received a message announcing Francesca's birthday party, courtesy of Sir Bancroft, to be held the evening of July 11. No RSVP needed. It's especially good timing now that many mission groups have returned to the castle, at least for the time being.

As the guests make their way in, it's clear the party's been well stocked with food and drink. There's plenty of room for mingling and some music in the background. Gifts are completely optional, but welcome. Come in and get comfortable.]

Hey, birthday girl. [ buffy looks smiley when she tracks francesca down. ] And, while we're at it, it only seems right to point out how amazing you make that dress look. [ yes she makes the dress look pretty. the dress doesn't make her look good, she makes it look good because she's just that flawless. ]

[She gives her a good-humored smirk.] They do say the dress chooses the wearer, so it must have seen the potential. [Her grin becomes more relaxed.] I'm glad you could make it.

Glad to be here. Seems to me like we managed to wrap up with perfect timing. So -- And hit me if this is too personal. [ beat. ] Well, don't actually hit me, but -- [ she shakes her head. THE POINT. she's finding it. ] Is today your actual birthday, or is it just a ... chosen birthday? I mean, all Veil things considered, is that a memory it didn't take?

[She's obviously amused.] I'm not exactly the hitting type, so don't worry about that. Or about being to personal. And, yes, this is my actual birthday. One of the very few things the veil didn't take from me.

Well, in that case, happy birthday. Doubly so on account of it being the real deal.

I take your curiosity as an indication that you don't remember your birthday?

[slay]

[ she ducks her head briefly at that, and then just shakes her head. ] Uh, no. No, I don't. I've spent five months racking my brain and ... all I can remember is my name.

Well, you seem to be assimilating quite well. [She recalls their previous conversation from months ago.] It seems as if you've made some friends.

Spend five months in cramped hotel rooms with people and you're bound to get stockholm for some of 'em. [ by which she means, yeah, team failboat are her bros and she loves them. she just has to be deflecty about it bc what are feelings. ]

[That definitely gets a chuckle.] I know exactly what you mean. However, it is easier to make friends around here than having to rely on forced socialization. At least, I hope we haven't become that inclusive.

Nah, you guys are great. See? Observe, friendliness. Happening as we speak. [ she gestures between them. ] No mission required.

So things have been going well for you? [Although she's obviously sincere, she keeps her tone light, intending to convey respectful concern and nothing close to pity.]

Better. I'm ... I'm doing better. [ she nods with a thin kind of smile that says she appreciates the check-in, but not in an entirely un-awkward way. ] How about you? Any exciting missions since the, uh, too-exciting one?

[socialgraces]

No, I've sort of been on a mission hiatus since then. I suppose I'm just waiting for something I can't turn down. Which would, of course, include a direct order from Wynn.

[slay]

Does he do that? You know. Order instead of ask.

[socialgraces]

Not usually during times of peace. But missions are part of our job here as Knights, so one doesn't usually turn down a request. Of course, Wynn will always take into account personal reservations, should they arise. [She pauses thoughtfully.] And then promptly persuade you otherwise.

[slay]

Of course he does. [ that's sketchy, sry. and it shows on buffy's face. ]

I understand your suspicion, but honestly your blind loyalty isn't expected just because you gained a fancy new title. No one gains respect by being non-complacent.

[slay]

Of course. [ she sounds distant because she's just thinking how wanting to get respect shouldn't urge people into complacence, either. but she's not going to say anything about it. ] Enough of the doom and gloom paranoia, huh? Party happening.

Don't worry about it. There's only so much small talk a person can take.
