[Earlier in the week all DRAKENET devices received a message announcing Francesca's birthday party, courtesy of Sir Bancroft, to be held the evening of July 11. No RSVP needed. It's especially good timing now that many mission groups have returned to the castle, at least for the time being.

As the guests make their way in, it's clear the party's been well stocked with food and drink. There's plenty of room for mingling and some music in the background. Gifts are completely optional, but welcome. Come in and get comfortable.]

[ guess who's also here... slowly slowly picking food onto a plate ahead of you in line... he turns to give a slight double take, squinting at spike for a moment ] Lan's, aren't you?

[Oh. Sir Spock. What's up. Spike stiffens a little at the question, and scowls.]

I'm not anybody's. [Okay, technically he is Lan's squire, but not for much longer, and he didn't like how the question was phrased. He's a rebel, okay, he takes orders from only himself.]

[ a dry snort and then he'll talk about you like you aren't here, spike ] He must have had so much fun with this one.

Not as much as he could have, seeing as I spent most of my time across the bloody ocean from him.

How unfortunate for you. Sir Wellington is a man who has seen much. You could not wish for a much better mentor.

[bigbad]

He's a dick. [Spike crosses his arms, giving the other man a considering look.] You mean he actually has friends?

[eldritchweaver]

He has a great deal of allies who would be proud to give their lives for the man. Could you say the same?

[bigbad]

Yeah, actually, I could. [He wasn't sure if every member of Team Failboat would lay down their lives for him. But he knew he'd give up his life for... well, maybe not Mark. But Buffy and Myri certainly. He felt as close to them as he had ever felt to anyone. In his memory, at least.]

Then you are a fortunate man.

Uh... thanks, I think. [He is, though, and he knows it.] I've been lucky.

Luck is a fickle thing. A man who works to control his destiny is the truly fortunate one.

Nothing so trite. I have seen much and learned many lessons. As has Sir Wellington, in his own way.

Somehow, I'm not surprised. [Grouchy old dicks seem reluctant to acknowledge any friendship ever.] Is there anyone you'd deign with?

[Spike rolls his eyes and grabs a pastry from the table.] I'll bet you don't. Now if you'll excuse me, some of us actually have social circles to attend to.
