The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme.  With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity.  Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.  

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums.    People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

[Hook comes in looking super fine with his disguise check of 23. Apparently someone tipped him off about the red, because he's wearing a red vest. He's given up trying to dress to suit the times. He likes his usual clothes.

He's got good reason to want to ward off evil spirits today. One of them just showed up at the castle. Anyone who wants to can find him drinking heavily. THIS IS WHAT YOU DO TO HIM, PETER PAN.]

[Closer to the end of the night, Thoster finds his squire and claps a hand to his shoulder.]

Something wrong, friend? Troubles with Emma again?

[Look it's his best guess okay.]

[unhand]

[It's a good guess, but for once it's wrong. Things with Emma are better than ever after their last mission, but honestly, he can't even think about that right now. He shakes his head.]

One of the new arrivals. I know him from another world.

[bluffcheck]

[Well, there aren't that many.]

The boy? Lad owe you money or something?

[unhand]

More on the something side. [He fixes Thoster with a serious look.] Stay as far away from him as you can. And whatever you do, don't believe a single word he says. That's no boy. He's a demon. Pure evil if ever I've seen it.

[he turns slowly to seek out the boy in the crowd, slightly unsure but trusting his squire's judgment above all else.]

Could be the Veil took that part of him. Must be a reason that Wynn felt like he belonged here.

Then Wynn's a fool.

[Hook may have a lot of feelings on this issue.]

Pan's playing some game. I don't know what, but I know we're all buggered if he wins.

Careful, friend. Dark words carry in a place like this. If you want to keep those you care about safe, you're best to stay put where you can keep an eye on this Pan. Last thing we need is for Wynn cross at you before I've heard enough to justify promotion. [Truthfully, Thoster thinks Hook is just great. But he doesn't want to be seen as too easy of a mentor. He wants to have the evidence to back it up.]

[Oh, right, he's still not officially one of the knights. That's got his attention off the Pan matter, at least. He looks over at Thoster, attention fully on him now, though there's still a tenseness that shows he's expecting things to blow up.]

And just what is it you're waiting to hear?

Truthfully? I'm not entirely certain. You have the misfortune of being my first squire, friend. I know that they believe the missions are the best test of character. Gave me a report back from the trip you took all those months ago, but since you haven't been sent back out since, I'm left to wonder how to mark your progress.

[unhand]

Well... [He hesitates, looking a bit shifty.] None officially. I may've gone out to help Emma with a bit of a situation recently.

[bluffcheck]

[Well that catches his attention.]

Oh? I take it you don't mean a matter of the heart.

[unhand]

In a manner of speaking, I do. [It was to break the curse that meant her father was in exile, after all. Familial love is as much a matter of the heart as romantic love is.] However, it did involve sailing to scotland and traversing a dungeon, so perhaps not in the simplest sense.

[bluffcheck]

[His brow furrows a bit in confusion.]

A dungeon. But this wasn't a mission Wynn sent you on?

No. It was Gold's idea. A sort of... magic apple that might lift the lady Amara's curse. So David could come back.

[bluffcheck]

[Thoster really hasn't been much involved in all of that mess, so he's a bit lost.]

Why don't we have a drink and you can tell me about it?

[unhand]

I'm never one to turn down a spot of rum. Especially if it comes with regaling you about my adventures.

[bluffcheck]

I've got a good bottle I was saving for a special occasion in my room. A good story seems right enough for that.

[This got gay all of a sudden.]

[Is that good bottle his penis bc that's not the drink Hook signed up for.]

[u kno wat? it might be. no not really.

Thoster brings Hook to his room, which is the same one he's had since he was a squire. Look, it has a mirror on the ceiling above his bed. You should not feel any less uncomfortable coming here, Hook.

Moving immediately to the dresser, he fetches the bottle and opens it, pouring two hefty glasses and gestures for Hook to sit in one of the two chairs.]

So tell me about this adventure of yours.

[unhand]

It was Gold's idea. [And he doesn't sound nearly as uncomfortable with that as he could (bluff 25). He doesn't like Gold. But he still can't remember the root of their fight and they have... worked together. He should be over it.] A magical apple that can heal any ill and break any curse. Convenient, isn't it?

[bluffcheck]

The one with the crocodile? Useful man, that one. [Not because of the crocodile, but they talked. Also Thoster's sense motive was abysmal.]

Seems like the sort of fruit that might be useful to have around, aye. Just what curse were you lot looking to lift?

[unhand]

Useful? Perhaps. [Closest thing to a compliment he'll give about Gold. He scratches his hook against his sleeve, almost unconsciously pressing against the tattoo on his arm. Milah. The woman he forgot. The woman Gold murdered.

But that's not the point right now.]

A love curse. The Lady Amara has been bewitched to love Sir Charming. David's left til she can be cured of it so as to avoid temptation. We're hoping to save them both.

The part I'm still lost on is why you lot left this matter to be unofficial. Seems a bit dangerous, doesn't it? None of us know would have known where you ran off to if things had gone wrong.

[Hook shrugs.] Would have taken too much time. I had a ship and a team all ready to go. Why bother with all the paperwork?
