The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ because dogs aren't really appropriate to squiring parties, abigail is taking lemon for a walk outside so he doesn't get any ideas about the potted plant in the corner. except lemon really wants to meet leia, because he careens right over and abigail barely has time to grab his collar and pull him back before he reaches the woman. she mumbles something about circuses as she looks up sheepishly. ] Sorry.

[ She's a little startled, of course, but barely falters as she tightens her grip on her wine for a moment, glancing down at the small creature coming towards her. Smiling just a little, she kneels down, gently petting the dog. ]

It's quite alright.

What's its name?

Lemon. He was a stray, I didn't name him. [ sry lemon, but she's not taking credit for your name. (even though she thinks it's cute.) ]

[ It is cute, though. Really cute.

And Leia's smile remains, though she straightens up and stands after a moment. ]

And your name?

[ The question is posed softly, just curious. ]

Abigail. You're... Leia, right? I remember your name from the ceremony. [ she smiles just slightly, fleeting, but it's clear she's trying to be friendly, even if she's not really that great at it. the hand not holding lemon's collar creeps up to adjust her scarf slightly. ]

[ She nods cordially, a softness in her eyes as she glances between Abigail and the dog for a moment. ]

Your recollection is better than mine at the moment.

It was a nice ceremony, wasn't it?

It was... different than anything I've done before. [ she shrugs a little, tucking her hair behind her ear. ] I didn't like the sword being so close to my head.

Have you ever experienced anything like this?

[ She's curious about the young girl's background and experience, what's she dealt with before coming here. ]

Not really. The most pomp and circumstance I've had is my high school graduation. [ that she doesn't remember. the rest of her pomp is just because she was accidentally a celebrity because of her dad. ]

I grew up with things like this: royal ceremonies, formal occasions. [ 'High school' means nothing to her, but she can understand graduation, and simply nods. ]

There's much to learn, but I'm looking forward to it.

...are you royal? [ royal ceremonies, you know, it lead her in that direction. ]

I was a princess, of Alderaan. Though that feels like an entirely different life now. [ One she'll never return to, and though she's quite sad, she doesn't betray that when she speaks. ]

[theminotaur]

[ alderaan... isn't that where the restuarant at the end of the universe is? no, no, that's aldebaran and they have the excellent liquor... so moving on. she's never met a princess before! as stunted as abigail's life was she is still a typical teenage girl prone to typical teenage girl fascinations. ] Really?

[ congrats leia, you've officially gotten the brightest smile from this skittish little lamb. ]

[ She's not quite used to this reaction, but she likes it very much. Not because it feeds any sort of ego, really, but it makes her feel like they're forming some sort of connection.

That smile is returned with one of her own. ]

It's true. I can tell you anything you'd like to know. [ Plus, there's the whole 'fighting to bring down the Empire' thing, too. ]

[ oh what does she want to know! so many choices. ] Were you the kind of princess that actually did things? There's a Queen of England, but she's more like a figurehead now than a ruler.

I did what my parents would allow. I didn't rule over our land, but I've been engaged in politics for quite some time now. Before I arrived here, I was actually working to help overthrow an empire taking over our star systems.

[theminotaur]

[ at least she's been introduced to the actual concept of different star systems thanks to han, so she doesn't so much as bat an eyelash at the idea. nor does she react much to the idea of leia in politics beyond a tiny furrow between her eyebrows. leia sort of exudes the same "don't fuck with me" sass that alana had. who else could yell at hannibal and survive? but one point sticks, leaving her expression confused. ]

An empire? [ didn't those die out with the holy roman one? ]

[ She could easily go toe to toe with anyone, even Vader - though she has no memory of that happening. But she's relatively fearless in that regard. ]

Emperor Palpatine seized power over the Galactic Senate, he manipulated his way into that position, and he's been ruling over the galaxy as long as I've been alive. We were hoping to put a stop to it.

[theminotaur]

That sounds... bad. [ it's perhaps a gross understatement, but it's also pretty accurate, abigail figures. ] Do you know if you won or did you get here...? [ too soon? too late? ]

It was, but I have faith we'll succeed.

I was brought here right in the middle of everything, so I'm not sure if we won or not. I can only hope all our sacrifice wasn't in vain.

[theminotaur]

[ abigail doesn't really know what to say to that. what she got pulled from she knew was going to end badly, with blood, most of it her and will's. but she manages a small, hopefully reassuring smile. ] I'm sure it was. The bad guys have a way of losing.

[ She appreciates the sentiment, regardless. ]

I'll certainly believe it ended well, unless I'm told otherwise.

Tell me a bit about yourself. [ She smiles when she says that, not meaning it in an interrogatory way. ]

I'm from Minnesota. [ oh god this is hard because abigail has a horrible life. ] I... I guess there isn't much to tell actually. [ she smiles sheepishly, but it's still fairly obvious she's reluctant to talk about herself. because it's awful. ]

[ Tell her things so she can kind of try to mother you, Abigail... ]

Um. [ she chews on her bottom lip. ] I like sudoku? And I like to read. [ haha this is so hard. she's forgotten how to just act like a teenager, what do teenagers even do? ] Alex is helping me catch up on all the television I missed.
