The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ looking more than impeccable as always (disguise 25), wynn is present as ever at the festivities, but he's certainly more solemn than ever. at various times the section heads, or jack, come to him for hushed discussions, and it's clear that this isn't a night off for any of them. ]

[ clerics are a great thing. five days ago, jack arrived back at the castle looking like hell warmed over, but now here he is, looking nat-20 hella good.

at least on the surface. he's a little slower to smile than usual, and he looks a bit wearied and distracted. hard to blame him, all things considered. ]

[ the tall, beady eyed sir hasmed looms near the refreshments, wearing mage robes, and talking with the bald, white robed sir solace. anyone who rolls a listen check of 14+ might catch some of what they're saying. and neither sounds very happy. ]

... barely be said to be without bias in this case. If you ask me, he's banking all his hopes on something that will only prove a waste of our time.

[ the gnome cleric erky is still new to all this shit so he's over here hassling edain with a million questions, as the knight shrugs and explains: ]

Y'ask me, I don't know why we haven't just charged the whole island yet, slit the throats o' those dogs, and let them know we don't yield to demands.

[ abigail is still not comfortable with any of these new strangers, no matter that she's spent a handful of weeks attempting just that. (though does watching 24 with alex really count as an attempt?) regardless, once she shows up, she just grabs a plate of food and a table off to the side and huddles over there, adjusting her scarf anxiously. it's lucky there are so many other people squired with her because she can just fly under the radar. yay. ]

[ ain't a party unless there's some dark elves hanging around. and today it's definitely gonna be val'drin because he wants in on the gossip train. and he looks painfully attractive as usual (disguise 31... or 38 for ladies). he does, however, look skeptical at all the dour faces. ]

[with a disguise 5, will is dressed in a suit that looks like it came out of macklemore's thrift store video. he doesn't even give a shit, okay. he spends the majority of the night in a corner looking uncomfortable and awkward (bad fashion sense aside.) he just loves parties and being social s-so much. not. gag him with a spoon.]

[ lydia spends longer than most in the women’s dressing room, picking out a dress that fits her and suits her shorter, curvier figure. when she finally exits into the ballroom, she’s in a white, high-collared dress with short sleeves and considerable embroidering (disguise 22).

her hair is coiffed and her make-up is bold without looking too far from natural, and she looks altogether enormously relieved to be out of armor. she makes careful study of the dour attitude of most everyone hovering about, and opts to invite herself to the drink’s table first, pouring herself punch and scanning the dance floor like a tiger waiting to pounce. ]

[ with a listen of nat 20, lydia decides to invite herself over to find out what is wasting their time, wearing a charming smile. ]

And what do you think he should be funneling time into pursuing? [ the easiest way, she's discovered, to get people to open up is to make them think their opinions are valuable (diplomacy 25). ]

[Stiles has recovered from his fumble on the walk and cleans up pretty darn good (disguise 15). He doesn't seem to notice how somber the party is. There's food! And hot people! And a dance floor!

You can find Stiles with a plate full of finger foods, showing off his excessively mediocre dance moves while he stuff his face on the dance floor (perform: dance 11).

At least he's excited about this new opportunity?]

[At some point during the party, Helen approaches Wynn with her typically polite smile.]

Probably because he doesn't want to get anyone killed. [ ella is 9000% sure that is why no one asked you, edain, saying as much as she passes. ]

[ vi has come for moral support of new people...

no, she came for the food. and also to compliment this spazz on his tumble, which she does whilst shoving an enormous bite of mini grilled cheese in her face. ] I fell, too! I mean, not today, obviously, you would have seen that, but at mine. My squiring ceremony, Basically, you're in good company. High five.

[ no really... high five. ]

[The Doctor with a swanky disguise of 25 has managed to find himself proper white tie attire, all top had and tails and rather well turned out.

Well, he was told there's a party.

He's not really dancing through, more... standing around the outside, sniffing the wine and turning his nose up at it. Honestly, how do you people drink this stuff?]

Thanks. Glad to hear I'm not the only one doing the tuck and roll down the knightly red carpet. Stiles. That's my name. Nickname, actually. Short for Stilinski which is my last name, but I sort of forgot my first name, which I guess happens? So- Stiles.

[Natasha is here and looking awesome (disguise 19). She's going around the room with a drink in hand, silently observing everything she can about this party and taking it in -- the people, the atmosphere, etc. -- but is definitely not giving off any indication that she doesn't want to be social. If that were the case, she probably wouldn't have come to this party. Duh. Basically she's just casually hanging around; feel free to bother her anywhere in the room. She might even be able to be easily talked into dancing.]

[Your mentor isn't just brains and a gun. She's also put together as fuck and she comes to your squiring party totally ready to prove that with her nat 20 disguise.]

Getting your bearings? [She says, coming up beside the girl with her own drink in hand.]

I'm Vi. Short for Violet, but if you ever call me that I'll murder you so it's nickname palooza up in this bitch, Stiles Stilinski! [ so cheerful, she broke out the wine before y'all got here so she is a-okay. ] I fall all the time. Like, walking in a straight line across a flat surface, so don't worry, they're all used to it.

[ she arches an eyebrow at helen, but that's the only acknowledgment she makes of this new side to her. lydia looks back out at the dance floor. ]

Is there a reason no one's happy to be at a welcome party, or are this many knights really that British?

[ abigail perches next to him with a glass of water. ] Hi.

[Not dancing? Well, that just won't do. Helen is a vision tonight with her nat 20 disguise. But I am bad at finding pictures, so you just have to use your imagination.

It's hard to get into the celebratory spirit tonight, but Helen doesn't want the new squires to feel less welcome. So at some point in the evening, she comes up to "John Smith" and extends her hand.]

Hey. Did someone ... die recently? [he's asking this as a serious question, not like "lol who died????" he's taken in the mood of the castle throughout the squiring and now the afterparty. shit is somber. (wis 20 total)]

[ alanna shows up after the ceremony, even a bit late to the party. she’s wearing a simple dress and hasn’t bothered to do anything cosmetically outside of brushing her hair. all signs point to “she forgot it was the 1st.” ]

Where in the Goddess’s name did you find a top hat?

No. But some people were kidnapped and just came back. That one -- [ she points out jack. ] -- is a Dragon's Claw. His partner was left behind when they rescued the others. [ her eyes search out myri, whom she met that one time, and she points her out to will. (spot 12) ] She was one of them. Also, there was a doppelgänger in her place. [ is that it? she thinks that might be it. ]

[Imagination or googling pictures of dresses for 20 minutes. One of those.

His back straightens a little as she steps close, blimey she looks a bit good, doesn't she? Well, he can hardly help but notice. Hardly help but smile at her a bit too.]

[He smirks just a bit, still pleased with himself for that one, and reaches out his hand towards hers.]
