The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ looking more than impeccable as always (disguise 25), wynn is present as ever at the festivities, but he's certainly more solemn than ever. at various times the section heads, or jack, come to him for hushed discussions, and it's clear that this isn't a night off for any of them. ]

[At some point during the party, Helen approaches Wynn with her typically polite smile.]

Always, Sir Magnus. [ he smiles back slightly. BUT JUST SLIGHTLY. ITS A ROUGH MONTH. ]

I had the chance to speak to your new squire while he was getting acquainted with the grounds. I was wondering just what his background is in?

[other than lying and being sort of charming.]

That seems like the sort of question you might wish to take to him, doesn't it, Sir Magnus?

If I thought he might give me an honest answer? Perhaps. [She doesn't seem put off by it. In fact, she's more than a little amused.] As it stands, I had a feeling I may get more information from discussing it with you.

Your feelings might be betraying you then. I'm afraid it's not my story to tell.

Or perhaps it speaks to just how little truth I believe I would gain from having the conversation with him. [Her eyebrows raise a little.] One would think that if a man had something to hide, he could come up with a better alias than John Smith.

Then it seems, perhaps, he's a man who wants to be honest about his dishonesty.

But not dangerous enough that his dishonesty might endanger anyone- himself included?

[Which is a round about way to ask if he's a weird sort of shadowkind where normal medical treatment and/or healing could hurt him because of different biological aspects???

She really does have best interests at heart.]

I think he's canny enough to protect himself, and he has no interest in harming anyone else.

[Brantley approaches Wynn with a serious face. He normally greets people with a smile, but he is not in the mood to put on a smile.]

Master Wynn, do you have time to talk?

[ wynn looks up immediately, noting brantley's expression and giving him a grim nod of his own ] Of course, Sir River.  Regarding?

Sarandis and Master Bancroft. Can I ask you what are you going to do about them? I don't think waiting is the best option anymore.

[wynn]

[ his expression tightens the tiniest bit ] While I appreciate your input on the subject, Sir River, that is not, as a matter of fact, your decision to make. Things are more complex than they seem.

[fixyourproblem]

[He sighs a bit, somewhat kind of annoyed.] I know it's not mine to make and I don't know the whole situation, but we need to do something. Who knows what they are doing to Master Bancroft while we are here... Just waiting for the best moment. And I'm sure you have received the report of my market research. If we don't act soon, I'm afraid it'll be too late to stop them.

[wynn]

Sir River, it was precisely rash action in the first place that led us to where we stand now. While I certainly value and share your concerns, I would ask you to accept my judgment in this, and know that things are in motion even as we speak.

[fixyourproblem]

Then at least let me help. I know I probably won't be able to do much, but not doing anything makes me feel... uneasy. [That's an understatement. He always helps someone in need, and not doing so makes him feels anxious, especially when that someone is a friend.]

In time, Sir River, I believe I will require a great number of you. I will count you among that number, when that day comes.

[He has waited for quite a while and now he has to wait again? He definitely doesn't like the decision, but arguing about it won't help, so he just sighs and acknowledges the option.] I'll be waiting for that day then. Meanwhile, I'll keep my eyes on the street in case anything significant shows up.

Your intelligence on the Slovechnian slaves helped us to discover another shipment that wound up in the Caribbean. I'd be grateful for anything else you might uncover.

I'll do that. [He nods calmly, relieved that at least the information he collected was useful.] Master Wynn, on a related note, do you think there's another mole in the castle? Another shapeshifter might be unlikely but Sarandis may have other agents working here. And with the sudden surge of recruits lately, I think that it is more likely to be true.

[wynn]

I think that indulging that attitude without cause for suspicion is a dangerous path to tread. We can't afford to suspect one another without cause now, when they're working so hard to tear us apart from the inside out. Strength and faith in each other is what will carry us through this.

That's not to say I'm not taking precautions of my own to make certain that what you're suggesting is not true.
