The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Helen makes her rounds and makes an effort to speak to each of the new squires. Coming Allison's way, she brings a glass of sparkling grape juice because... well, some of these squires seem very young.]

Care for a drink?

[Allison offers a smile as she nods.]

Thank you. [She'll take the offered glass, but hold onto it for a moment.]

It's still a bit overwhelming. [It feels like it just happens a lot faster than one would believe.]

I'm Allison.

Helen. [She returns the name with her own, smiling all the while.] It's all certainly a lot to take in, but you'll find that a great deal of us are very accommodating to any questions you might have along the way.

[Allison smiles politely.]

So far everyone's been really nice. It's a bit surreal, but I'm adjusting to it.

I'm glad to hear that you've found us accommodating, at least. [There are some grumpy ass knights out there, lets be real.] It takes time. But you're young. I'm sure you'll find yourself catching on before you know it.

I think when you have people dumped in from all over, it's easier to just be helpful. Have you been here long?

[daredtobelieve]

Oh, yes- quite some time. [Forty years, in fact. But she doesn't want to open with her own interesting background. She's not quite sure how Allison would react to her longevity.] I'm part of the Dragon's Hoard.

The science part, right? [She's getting better at remembering all the sections.]

I'm sure there's a lot of things to learn here.

[daredtobelieve]

Research, yes. And development of different devices that the knights can use in the field or for research purposes. [She smiles as she continues.] There's really all manner of things to study, if you find yourself so inclined.

Devices? That sounds something closer to what I'd be interested in. My father worked in arms. I'm sure he wanted to teach me more, but we weren't very good about being honest with each other... and now I'm here and he's still home. [At least, she figures he is.]

[Oh, another young girl ripped from her family. Helen's heart can't handle it.]

I'm sorry to hear about your father. But for what it's worth, I'd be happy to show you the equipment we have and any questions you might think of.

[She nods, trying to steel her way through it. She misses him, but she knows that he had things to handle after everything had come down. She knows that she'd been doing fine without him and that here she had a new system of support.]

I'd really like that. [Allison smiles.] I came with my equipment, which was probably lucky on my part, but I'd be interested in seeing what's here.

[daredtobelieve]

Sneaking away during your party may be in poor taste, but sometime soon. [It's less of a suggestion and more of a promise. She won't forget about her. She'll help.]

What sort of equipment did you arrive with?

[Allison wouldn't mind getting out of the party, but she understands about making a good impression.]

My crossbow, a set of ring daggers, and equipment or tracking and trapping animals.

[daredtobelieve]

A good deal more than most. [She looks mildly impressed.] Did you hunt before you arrived here?

[risked]

I was actually in the middle of tracking when I arrived here. I was walking out of the woods one moment and then in the middle of France the next.

[daredtobelieve]

A jarring experience, to say the least. Just what was it you were tracking?

[risked]

[If it had been earlier, Allison would have lied, but she's already realized how open everyone is about the truth and it's odd, but something she's adjusting to.]

Two werewolves. It was a contain situation at the time.

[daredtobelieve]

Really? And you were tracking them all on your own?

[risked]

[She can't hide the grin of pride that falls to her features. She looks away, briefly, trying to shake off the feeling. She knows that she's been trained for that and she still makes mistakes.]

Yeah. My dad trained me, but we both promised to leave the werewolves to their own business. I just... I couldn't.

[daredtobelieve]

Why not? Did something happen? [A young girl choosing to run back into danger was certainly not all that common.]

[risked]

[The pride that had been there moments ago falls from her features quickly.]

I just needed to help. [Allison isn't sure she wants to just dive into the guilt she feels over Erica and Boyd being taken. She doesn't want to talk about her mother's death, about her grandfather and his vision for the family... she just doesn't know Helen enough for that.]

It was something I felt I needed to do.

Well, you'll certainly fit right in around here with that attitude. [Helen's practically glowing with how pleased she is to hear that. She reaches out and gives Allison's shoulder a squeeze.]

I'm sure you'll find plenty of use for those skills, but more than that, you'll find yourself in good company of those who want to help.

[Allison refocuses on the conversation, trying not to think back to the path the past few months had taken for her. She nods as she looks to Helen again.]

It's why I'm here.
