The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

[The easily distracted, wide-eyed blonde that some may recall from the squiring ceremony looks very much at ease in a formal setting, even dressing appropriately for the night (Disguise Nat 20 cause I can never get N20s on important stuff it seems).

She'll be flitting around the ballroom throughout the evening, introducing herself to anyone who might meet her gaze or she'll be found trying food and drink that seems a little foreign to her; if the looks of surprise, both pleasant and otherwise are anything to go by. Don't be at all shocked if she takes it upon herself to take you by the hand to lead you to the dance-floor. Even if you're sending out 'leave me alone' vibes because Avaleen is rather oblivious to those.]

[ vi looks cute as fuck, despite occasionally looking like someone just slaughtered her puppy. but she is aggressively pretending she is fine (SHE IS FINE GDI) and that means showing up to squiring parties like a good knight and smiling and doing distracting things like making felicity dance with her.

to be perfectly honest, vi drifts over to avaleen because she's pretty. she is very, very pretty and vi is very, very shallow. so she sidles on up, pops a strawberry in her mouth and smiles with berry stained lips. she is in it to win it with this flirting (distraction technique number one!) and she hasn't even opened her mouth, yet. ]

[Despite his sour mood lately, Brantley will not miss the chance to go to a party to meet with someone new, especially when that someone is a charmingly attractive blonde girl. And like usual, he never arrives at a party without dazzling attire on him. Nothing extraordinary though, just a classic party suit without much hassle. Simple but perfect (disguise 23). Seeing the beautiful lady, he just walks toward her and confidently talks to her without any hesitation.]

A party like this wouldn't be complete without a dance. And a dance wouldn't be complete without Cinderella in the center of it, would it? [He boldly offers his hand coupled with a charming smile (charm 22).]

[Helen tries to make an appearance at most of the squiring parties. This one is no exception. She's definitely not sending out any 'leave me alone' vibes. In fact, she's one of the most approachable people you could find. Even when things are wearing heavier on her, she doesn't let that seep into her greetings for the newest squires.]

[Frankie's showing her face but she couldn't be assed dressing up it seems. (Disguise 7). She's just come along to check in with her new Squire and ya know, see if he's really as much of a jerk as the peanut gallery seemed to think. That said, she'll stop and chat to whoever while she's here... and raid the buffet table cause she sure hasn't eaten tonight.]

Derek feels as uncomfortable in black tie as he does in traditional armor, but he still manages to pick out something that's a good cut on him (Disguise 16) and saunters into the room of people.

And then proceeds to wallflower the hell out of this gathering.

He's never really been a big drinker, given it does nothing for him, and apparently that predilection remains. After an initial dazzling entrance, Derek takes advantage of his more extroverted co-squires' sociability and simply heads to the edge of the crowd, hoping that if he broods hard enough no-one will approach him. (Intimidate 30)

Luckily, Lydia’s fairly familiar with the Derek Hale intimidation tactic, and she’s not impressed. Albeit, her assessment that he lacks a certain degree of memory from the ceremony makes it … work a little better, frankly. Not knowing them means he wouldn’t know what Scott would do to him for hurting any of them.

If, of course, Scott were here. Which he’s not.

Regardless, she saunters up despite her visceral discomfort with the fact that he looks ready to take a bite out of someone simply for approaching (will save 7).

This is probably a mistake.

In fact, approaching him, Buffy realizes this is definitely a mistake and backs out (will 22). She gets within two feet of him before she begins to physically lean back in her stride and turns away to busy herself at the drinks table.

Her last squire situation, admittedly, had worked out well. Jaina was doing great in every way—but it was through no effort of Buffy’s. Just as Jack had been with her, Buffy had, well, put her mission above her squire and been hard to reach. And bad at checking in. And, honestly, all around bad at offering advice or help or anything really.

While she and Jaina could easily be described as mentor-y or even friends now, that was mostly a post-knighting development, and she was knighted based upon a brief review and mission reports.

She’s bad at having a squire. Objectively speaking.

But right now? She just wants to prove that she can do it. So she’d agreed, but that doesn’t make her any less terrified, and frankly seeing out the issues she has about Faith by making herself feel needed and important by helping out a squire? Probably not the best motivation.

A squire, though, is the one thing Faith can’t have that Buffy can do, so she’s going to do her very best to do it right.

Probably.

Lila flounces over near silently (move silently 34) because in her spare time she is a cat. She doesn't seem at all affected by his glowering, but it's pretty hard to intimidate someone who is used to being considered a sociopath when the moment calls for it. (will save 31) Besides -- new guy is tall, dark, vaguely handsome and he resembles the most oblivious of Sharpes, dear, pathetic Barron, of course Lila is going to be all up in his grill.

"Hey there, starshine." Lila fixes him with a radiant smile, gloved fingers drumming against her glass of pink lemonade and vodka. She gave up hiding her scar for other people's delicate sensibilities, so Derek gets to enjoy the whole length of it.

This is what happens when you give off gtfo vibes -- no one gets the fuck out. Vi looks vaguely uncomfortable as she strolls up to meet Derek, but her husband was just murdered right in front of her a couple months ago, her will save is fueled by an utter apathy to everything ever. (will save 28)

And Derek is cute.

Sue her. She wants to look at something pretty.

"Hello. Why so surly?" Vi should fit right into Derek's life, she is the opposite of Beacon Hills kids -- she's twenty seven and looks seventeen.

See the problem with people who look like they don't want to be social is that all the social people flock to them to find out why they're not being social. Intimidation techniques or not. So while Felicity does not have Vi's iron will in the face of Derek's glare (will save 12), she's emboldened in the face of him being attractive.

It's a pity Faye wasn't there yet, because she's finally gotten what she's always wanted. Squire eye candy.

Though, odds are Derek really doesn't want Felicity there to draw attention, mostly for the fact that she is looking both gorgeous and sparkly (disguise 15). She, however, is just going to sip her champagne and eye him curiously, if not cautiously.

Let the record show that Stiles was so fucking close to a nat 20 on his will save. But alas... a 19 just won't cut it because even with modifiers, that is still only a 22.

So it's with a noted degree of caution that Stiles approaches the big bad wolf. He comes bearing gifts. Tiny finger food gifts. Okay, so it's actually just for him, but you can have one. Maybe.

"So, knighthood." Stiles still has a hard time buying Derek as the type to work with a group like this. "Crazy, right?"

"I'm just going to put this out there," Kate says as she approaches, gesturing with half-full glass and an empty palm opened to the floor. She looks perfectly at home in the sea of fancy people, hair twined and curled up off her neck, dress something expensive and flattering in a shade that shimmers between deep purple and midnight blue. (Disguise 23) "If you were dancing, people wouldn't keep coming up to talk to you."

The whole brooding thing probably works better on those who don't take being intimidated (will save 19) as a challenge to be conquered.

She didn't expect to see Derek here. Not that she expected to see anyone here, really, but it really is becoming an odd coincidence that so many people she knows have ended up here. Maybe this world knows better than them and is just trying to save them from some level of their own fates. At first she considers just leaving him be. Letting him cling to the walls and sidelines, because that's what Derek seems to do best.

Then she gets curious. She wonders if he ended up keeping Boyd and that girl safe. If her mistake of breaking that line of mountain ash hadn't been even worse than what had happened.

Taking a short breath, she heads over toward him and approaches him. "You don't seem too comfortable here." It's a weak opening for conversation at that, but really she wouldn't blame him if he just ignored her for someone else.

[ abigail is loitering. near the back. by the doors so she can leave if she spontaneously is over-socialized. but stiles seemed extra perturbed about the newest squires, so she wanted to make sure he is okay.

[Felicity is up to her usual social butterfly flair this month, and drawing attention to herself to boot (disguise 15). She will talk to anyone and everyone and is mostly hanging out near the food tables.

Aside from the time when she's hauled off by Vi to do some dancing, in which case she's shaking her groove thing with her BFF, she'll get back to you in a second. It's standard best friend distraction duties.

That being said she's totally approachable. Feel free to come and bug her as you see fit.]

Hayley had heard about her reassignment and honestly after she found out what happened to Vi's husband, she couldn't really blame her for wanting time off from trying to train a squire who just had a baby.]

Felicity? [Hayley is making a wild guess, but she thought she heard her mention her name to someone else. Olivia is watching all the people, actually being quiet for the moment - which is good for a baby that's barely a month old.]

[Kate is keeping it simple this month, looking more to blend in than anything else (disguise 13). It's a lot of younger knights this month, which has her more concerned than anything else with the kinds of things they deal with, but she has a feeling that Wynn wouldn't pick them if he didn't think they were capable.

Still, at the same time, they're kids. They shouldn't have to start seeing the world this way so young - regardless of their background.

All the same, she's approachable, mingling, and hanging out by the bar more than anything else. Come bug her as you see fit.]

[Erica is here and dressed in what can be called mostly her usual awesome style of outfit choice (disguise 16). She's starting with sampling some of the food, but if you come up to her, there's what is probably at least an 85%-90% chance that she'll put her food down and drag you out to dance. Because as okay as she is sometimes at only standing around and observing {though really only when she has to be; otherwise, she'd rather be doing something more interesting and active}, she's really not here for that.]

[ red is faye's color. (also lila's but she makes her occasional forays into black like tonight and alice in wonderland blue.) so when she sees someone possibly her age in red, you know... she stops.

and begrudgingly admits the blonde girl is rocking it. blondes look good in red though, that's why lila favors it.

it doesn't help that blondie is by the food which is lila's favorite thing ever wow. now that des isn't immortal, the tiny dream worker definitely has the biggest appetite in the castle. :) so she's busy scarfing down nibbles, but she takes a moment to pause and compliment the new girl. whose name she doesn't know because she couldn't be bothered to go to the actual ceremony. oh well. ]

[Adjusting to everything has felt like a whirlwind of experiences. She's still not sure that this is even a sound basis for reality, but she's not alone in this experience, so she's sure that it's real. Just slightly... surreal.

She's been knighted. A new code. A new oath. It's a good thing, she believes, because she needs this sort of even ground for a new start. That's what this is going to be, too, a clean slate. She has Lydia here and she knows she heard a few other familiar names. One name is settling heavier on her chest, but she'll approach Erica later. (Unless, Erica approaches her.)

For now, though, she's changed into something more appropriate (disguise check 19) and she's mingling through the crowd offering polite smiles and accepting kind words when she receives them.]

[Helen makes her rounds and makes an effort to speak to each of the new squires. Coming Allison's way, she brings a glass of sparkling grape juice because... well, some of these squires seem very young.]

[ Jackson's here because it's technically his party, right? He may have also heard something about an open bar. It takes him two drinks to remember that alcohol doesn't have the same effect that it used to, and he abandons a half-finished glass on whatever spare bit of table he can find before giving the other party-goers a once-over.

He looks annoyed as hell and not particularly thrilled about being here, but he also looks predictably well-dressed (disguise 18). If anyone attempts passing niceties he'll give them a smile that's pretty obviously fake, but for the most part he's busy keeping an eye on the crowd and trying very hard not to be anywhere within speaking range of anyone else from Beacon Hills.

Half the people here are from Beacon Hills, of course. Keeping an eye on them means outright ignoring most everyone else, so if he's distracted enough he might accidentally bump into anyone who happens to be at his elbow. ]

[ and so he bumps into lila who only saves her pink drink from splashing all over her dress by the grace of her impeccable cat-like reflexes. (reflex save 24) she whirls on him, blonde curls flying and her mismatched eyes, one blue and one green, narrowing in annoyance. they only soften minutely when she realizes he's attractive.

but only minutely. she's shallow, but not shallow enough to block out being annoyed. a thick scar rests above her collarbone, spanning one side to the other across her throat. ] For fuck's sake. Watch where you're going.
