after-party ♔ august

Jeux d'eau - Ravel

WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions (if you are uncertain if your character would be at the castle for this, ask!)
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || August 1st, 2014, 6:00PM [backdated]
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam

The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

She smiles in faint amusement, breathing out a quiet laugh. "They're not mandatory, these things. You don't have to come. Even to your own, you've made your appearance, it's well within your rights to flee at first chance."

All for people being comfortable, she even offers him an out. "Has anyone given you the grand tour yet? Besides the Wynn to armor to your room route. Like the real grand tour, movie theater and kitchen and armory, all that fun stuff. "

No-one has given him any sort of tour. Derek's been flying pretty blind, even when it comes to getting from one place to another. Although: "I thought my mentor was supposed to give me orientation."

Because he thinks maybe she's offering, and as much as he would like to say yes and abandon this whole party to get a look at the castle while it's mostly empty (or he thinks it should be mostly empty, given how many people are here) Derek is reluctant to break protocol on his first day as a squire. And Buffy had seemed... nice. Nice enough.

"Well, yeah, but there is a lot to be oriented on. Plus there's other orientations, too. The Dragon's Hide does a weapons orientation, Andrew and the Dragon's Hoard do an equipment orientation. Your mentor doesn't have to shoulder everything, which is the nice part about this place -- it sounds hella lame, but it fosters a sense of community." She shrugs, like what can you do.

We're all in this together, basically.

"Plus, I'm fucking bored out of my mind, right now. You're my last hope for entertainment." Dropping truth bombs.

Well, that's enough for him to capitulate. Though if he finds out later she's roping him into breaking the rules he'll probable be mad.

"I'd probably feel really guilty if you died of boredom," he deadpans, and just... starts walking towards the exit.

VICTORY! As he is walking off like he owns the place, he misses Vi's huge smile, but she flounces after him, catching up quickly. "My hero." She's only a teeny bit sarcastic, too. She comes to these things because they're entertaining and she likes meeting new people and new people don't immediately look at her with pity.

She can get behind the pitiless life.

"I'm Vi, by the way, since we skipped the introductions and I already know your name, Derek Surly Hale. It's really Violet, but if you call me that I might have to kick your butt and so far you're great company so I don't want to." She will ramble enough to make up for Derek's reticence. It's her superpower. "Who is your mentor, by the way?"

Rambling doesn't really bother Derek, filling in all the spaces where he doesn't have words. He does lift his eyebrows at "great company", though, like he's silently (and somewhat self-effusively) judging her taste in people.

"Sir Buffy Summers," he answers, drawing out Buffy's first name with still-lingering bemusement. She's so tiny and blonde and called Buffy. Derek knows power intimately, knows who in the room has it, and his mentor has plenty despite her social awkwardness and crappy jokes. But it still seems incongruous to pair them. He glances aside at her as they leave. "Are you a squire?"

"No, I just look like I'm seventeen. I'm a full knight, Dragon's Light -- that's the clerics wing: healers, medics, first aid, that kind of thing." Her shoulders lift in a humble shrug. She's kind of a badass, frankly, and she will totally hang out, but being a cleric isn't something she's going to brag about.

Mostly because she was basically coerced into it.

Myri made a happy face.

It was very effective.

"I suspect you're headed to the Hide, especially with Buffy as your mentor." Girl can beat up a mack truck singlehandedly.
