after-party ♔

Jeux d'eau - Ravel

WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || March 2nd, 2012, 9:00PM
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam

The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope none of you are shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

[And she'll follow dance check 21 quite happily.] Was your father part of the armed forces? Or were you fishermen?

[She'll wait for his answer before sharing something else.] I can see better in complete darkness than in the light.

The second. I grew up in a seafaring community. Or something like it.

That must come in handy. [cheeky grin.] No clanging around in the dark in search of your toothbrush.

With the downside of light blindness, for which sunglasses are much appreciated. And yes, it does prove very useful. No fumbling around in the dark for me. [Giving him a cheeky grin of her own.]

Was that your next fact, or do I get another?

It could count, [He gives a small shrug,] but would it be fair? Here's one. I always carry a piece of rope with me -- not now, obviously. I like tying knots. It keeps my hands busy.

[Her face changes almost completely at his remark, her expression much more open and soft. It doesn't appear to be a deeply personal revelation, but to her it is. He's a worrier, and he doesn't know how express his anxieties, with anyone, knowing they either wouldn't understand, or care. She knew there was more to him than just a pretty face... and body.

She doesn't want to make a big deal about it and embarrass him though, so she just smiles knowingly before moving on.]

I like to bake, for pretty much the same reasons. I made an amazing chocolate cake the other day.

[That's a pretty dead-on assessment, although he'd never bring himself to agree.]

Oh really? I happen to love sweets.

Perhaps we'll manage to run into each other near the kitchen, at some point. [It's much more fun when you have a reason to bake, after all.] My turn then?

[She feigns contemplation for a couple moments before stating:] I came through the Veil, quite some time ago. What about you?

It's only been a week, maybe. Did you find it easy to adjust? [He's sincerely curious about this one, for his own sake.]

Well, I didn't speak English, at all, so until I learned, I felt a little secluded. But life was simpler back then. Although, I do much prefer our modern conveniences, such as indoor plumbing.

[Her tone gets a little heavier.] I didn't remember anything from the time before that moment I found myself alone, covered in blood, on a foreign street. I had no choice but to adjust.

[She raises a curious eyebrow.] Do you hold any memories of your previous life?

That must have been horrible. [He reaches to delicately brush a strand of hair away from Francesca's face. That's his way of showing sympathy, okay.]

[Now that he's been all charmed and dazzled by her, it's easier to open up about some of his insecurities.] It's ... confusing. I feel like I remember. I feel like I'm me. But the deeper I dig, the more I realize is missing. I know things I did, but I don't know why. Does that make sense?

[She follows his hand with her eyes as it moves to her hair, and she looks surprised by the show of affection, but not offended. It's just a gesture she's not used to.

She looks back to his face, listening to his words intently, her brow creased in concern.]
Yes, that's very common. I can't say as if you'll ever be able to piece it all back together. Memories stolen by Lethe never return. At least as far as we know. [She's heaves a big sigh, realizing she's being depressing, and tries to offer something lighter.]

Let's see... Well, I'm fluent in five different languages.

[So he should stop hoping for his friends to remember him. That's what he got out of her words, and it felt extremely disheartening, more so than the impact of losing any of his own memories. But, if she wanted to move past that point in the conversation, he would too. He could have his meltdown later. In private.]

Incredible. [Especially considering there is probably only one language in Panem ... ] Let's see ... hm ... I like writing poetry?

Oh really? [He's as sensitive as she had assumed, but it was an endearing trait for him.] I don't think I really know anyone else with such a forte. I would be very curious to read some of your art, when you get a chance to write it, that is.

[She doesn't want to reach the point where he doesn't remember any more about himself, hence rubbing in the fact that he's lost some of his memories, so she slows down the game a bit to more friendly chit-chat.] Do you recite poetry as well, or just write it?
65: <user name=seethesoldiers site=insanejournal.com> (Default)

[personal profile] 65 2012-03-14 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I recite, too. I recited to an entire nation once. [But he can't remember what the poem was about. How mildly distressing.

He finally slows their dancing to a stop (yes they've still been dancing this entire time, okay).]

I feel like I learned some interesting things. You?

[She just regards him curiously for a few moments, slowly disentangling herself from his hold.] Oh yes, though I'm sure there are much more interesting things about you I've yet to discover. But I like a little bit of mystery, so perhaps we should end this for now. It was a pleasure to meet you, Finnick.

[She gives him one last smile before gracefully bowing out and disappearing into the crowd.]
