While scams about genetically modified corn wouldn't normally fall under the purview of the Knights, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation has called in assistance from Wynn because of reports of the two agents investigating the matter running into some sort of Shadowkind that attacked them at the silos containing the corn in question.

The Knights fly out to Tennessee to check out the situation, and Christos drives them directly towards the silos in question, which are three lonely, old looking structures set in the middle of a field far away from any other civilization.

I like him. [ the doctor points towards sebastian. anybody that approves of a bowtie earns points in his book. he snaps his fingers and looks over to mulder ]

[ torn between looking like a giddy child and trying to control himself in case this is a joke, because it sounds like a joke. /disguises fanboying with humor???? ] Well, for one, it's not the kind of thing that usually comes up in casual conversation.

[ Sebastian nods when he's pointed at, yeah its a cool bow tie.]

You cant judge the guy for it though. He's likely the best to judge this kinda stuff.

[ conspiratorially, as she leans toward mulder, ] You can actually judge him for it. I do. [ her voice rises to address everyone else again. ] Anyway, he's an alien, so you can see why we were the ones sent to help you sort this out.

[ yeah, and you're doing just splendidly at it, amelia. ]

[ mulder looks over at her, opening his mouth to say something more, still clearly trying to weigh whether someone at the bureau is playing an elaborate prank on him or what, when christos appears out of nowhere behind them to say sharply: ] There's nothing here. This is a dead end.

[ He shoots a grin towards Mulder, and then that same grin to Sebastian. ] Exactly. And don't listen to Pond, she's Scottish. [ Clearly worse than alien. ]

Well this has been fun, hasn't it! I mean who can't say that standing in a silo wasn't on their bucket list? Mind you I've never seen one of these buckets. Funny thing to keep in a bucket if you ask me....

[ Sebastian shook his head some.]

Then we should figure out where they moved on too.

No, I mean nothing here. [ christos corrects sebastian with some irritation ] No sign of anything have been here that matches their description.

[ the light stream from agent fowley's flashlight winds its way across their chests as she moves back towards them, the word laced with familiarity, and enough to stop him in his verbal tracks. ] There could be any number of explanations, but it doesn't look like any of them are going to be found here.

[ poking her head back in. ] Oi, you lot gonna keep chattering on in there where you cannae see or are you gonna come out into the real world?

[ mulder grudgingly steps outside with the others, muttering as he looks around the fields: ] You call this the real world?

Well, this has certainly been an extravagant waste of our time. [ christos airily dismisses them both, drawing out the keys ] But I think we've seen enough. Whatever you encountered here seems more the product of a pair of overactive imaginations than a cause for concern.

We're leaving.

Ummm. [ UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. ] Her scratches aren't imaginary. There's loads of explanations. It could be swamp gas causing mass hysteria and hallucinations. Should we really leave without investigating further? It'd be terrible if someone else got hurt because we weren't thorough.

We've still got a case here, regarding the modifications to this crop. In case whatever creatures were here have migrated -- [ she shoots christos a look that makes it clear how little she gives a crap about him thinking they made those creatures up ] -- we'd appreciate it if you could remain on call in town. It shouldn't be more than a day or two.

They got a point. [ Sebastian spoke again finally.] Even if nothing is here right now doesn't meant there hasn't or will not be if its got a pattern.

[ mulder sounds more amused than actually guilty about it, and there's something in his voice that indicates he doesn't think this is the end of things whatsoever. agent fowley catches that implication, glancing over at him like muLDER WHAT IS UP YER SLEEVE but he just pulls out his pack of sunflower seeds and sticks one between his teeth. ]

Oh you're never a waste. [ gonna get it. she rifles through her pockets for a pen, luckily finding one. (luckily because the next step would be rifling through the doctor's pockets and that would look strange.) pen in hand, she marches over to mulder and holds out her hand like she's going to shake goodbye.

and maybe scribble her number on his hand. maybe. who knows. it is a mystery. ]

[ diana catches that little brazen act, and while mulder might be smirking between her and amy as if this is adorably hilarious to him, and sneaking glances at the doctor behind her, as if still deliberating over why that man would be joking about being an alien, agent fowley stands aside, folding her arms and arching one eyebrow. she taps her foot, before saying with sudden coolness: ] If that's all, I think Agent Mulder and I have some more footwork to do today.

Pleasure meeting you, Agents. [ she'd give you both a driver's licence... with a promising smile, she turns from mulder and moves to loop her arm around the doctor's arm, reaching up to adjust his bow tie fondly and looking at the other two members of the team. ] Come on then boys.

[ without a word of farewell, christos heads for the car, getting in and turning it on like comE ON KIDS ]

[ Turning his head to Amy, the Doctor grins. To the hotel. They have a hotel, right? ]

Oh yes. Maybe there'll be a mini bar. Very small bottles for very high prices. That and some artisan nuts.
