While scams about genetically modified corn wouldn't normally fall under the purview of the Knights, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation has called in assistance from Wynn because of reports of the two agents investigating the matter running into some sort of Shadowkind that attacked them at the silos containing the corn in question.

The Knights fly out to Tennessee to check out the situation, and Christos drives them directly towards the silos in question, which are three lonely, old looking structures set in the middle of a field far away from any other civilization.

[ with a smile, the doctor takes her hand and gives it a gentle squeeze ]

That's just my friend Amy [ he assures her ] Bet you'd love Amy. And nobody is going to take anybody away. They'd have to get through me first. Promise.

[ carefully, he shifts a little, and looks towards the opening on the treehouse ]

All right Pond! [ he calls back ] We're just having a bit of a chat. Everything okay out there?

We're fine. [ christos seems unconcerned about any of the minimal damage suffered by the team at least. nothing they won't survive. sorry mulder. ]

Well, we're something. [ it's softly muttered as she casts a worried look at mulder and rubs at her forehead again before raising her voice to reply. ] You haven't any paracetamol, have you? Maybe a humbug?

[ Sebastian looks back to Robert a moment then to Amy.]

He doesn't look that bad, besides, chicks dig scars.

Hold your horses! [ he calls back out ] I've got just the thing!

[ looking back down to her he whispers. ] Think my friend isn't feeling very well. Shall we go out there, see your dad? What do you say, eh? Together?

They do, do they? [ mulder directs to sebastian, before dropping a very wry hint of a smile at amy as if to ask her to confirm. they're interrupted as the girl nods shyly to the doctor, and deigns to climb down with him. robert rushes forward towards his daughter, who leaps off the ladder to go running at him, throwing her arms around his legs.

"I'm sorry, Daddy," she murmurs, muffled against him. robert looks confused a bit, glancing up at the doctor. "You've nothing to be sorry for, sweetheart. This wasn't on purpose." ]

Course it wasn't. These things never are. But you're both alright, aren't you? And cuts and bruises'l heal.

[ he reaches a hand out and touches it lightly to robert's arm, reassuring, before moving back towards amy. ]

Right then, what's going on over here?

[ glancing up at mulder, she makes an expression that looks a lot like maybe. ]

Psychic head shot, [ she says to the doctor, pointing to herself, before indicating mulder with: ] Physical head shot. [ her voice lowers. ] Cindi's okay? She's not hurt?

[ cindi shakes her head, and then looks up at robert. "It's my fault they came, isn't it?" she casts a nervous look at mulder. "Because of what-- what--"

a look of realization crosses robert's face, and he meets mulder's gaze as the agent comes to the same conclusion. a smile breaks across mulder's face, and he shakes his head. ]

Your father is helping us, Cindi, to take down some bad men. We weren't meeting with him because of anything you did.

[ the doctor fishes around in his pocket and pulls out two boiled sweets, one red, one blue. he offers one to amy and the other to mulder. will they help? are they some sort of special science? are they just sweets? its a mystery.

he puts the back of his hand to amy's brow ]

You'll be fine, Pond. Just take it easy. You-- [ to mulder ] should probably have that looked at.

[ pops it in her mouth like a kid. she feels useless rn tbh, so she just goes with it and is useless rn. ]

[ Sebastian looked to the kid, than shakes his head amused. He's got nothing to do really.]

[ mulder will take it with a rueful smile, as christos eyes robert and his daughter, before turning his attention to the federal agent. ] She must have overheard you and your partner meeting with her father, and taken the wrong idea from it all. These creatures coming after you were manifestations, like the one you saw here moments ago.

She was just protecting her family. Cannae fault her for that. [ if she sounds unsure it's because amy doesn't know how families work. ]

[ it's at that moment that diana bursts out of the trees, with a few armed police officers behind her. cindi starts and disappears behind her father, clutching him in fear. ] What's the situation?

What is Battenberg? [ He had to ask, looking over at the doctor.]

[ idly, ] It's cake. [ she turns her attention to fowley, though, stepping forward to intersect them. ]

It's fine, just a misunderstanding. We've found Cindi and she's alright. You might want to get Mulder checked out, he took a pretty rough hit.

[ and clearly men can't take care of themselves tbh. ]

she looks at him uncertainly for a second, and mulder gestures to amy and the doctor or someone to make a diplomacy check in this situation before cindi freaks out again. ]

Yeah, we've got it all sorted. It was just a false alarm. [ she smiles ingratiatingly, moving -- with hands up because american cops tho -- between cindi and her dad and the newcomers. (diplomacy 27) ] I'll go with you to fill out any reports you need from us, yeah, it'll be no trouble. But, honestly, I shouldn't have called to begin with. I just panicked, you know. If I'd've known she'd run out to her clubhouse I wouldn't have called. Hate that I've put you through all this trouble for nothing.

Kid just got spooked and ran.

[ Sebastian just felt like throwing something in.]

[ mulder moves towards diana, limping a bit probably but shh. he grabs her arm as she looks around the scene, clearly wanting to say more.

"Like they said. But I took a bad spill. You boys wanna give a guy a lift to the hospital?" he asks. the cops look between them, hesitating, but finally put their weapons away, nodding.

mulder looks over his shoulder at amy, nods a bit to her and the doctor, and with that the agents head off with the police. christos watches them go, before turning to robert. ] ... There are people who can help your daughter to train her abilities. Keep her from hurting anyone else without intending to.

We can put you in contact with these people so that this -- [ he looks around ] doesn't happen again.

[ robert exchanges a look with his daughter, and then nods once. ]
