Not all international intrigue happens in presidential palaces, plush business offices, and smoky dives next to waterfronts.  Some happens in the coldest, dreariest parts of the world.

The Ukrainians expect the Knights to head for the Russian research station from the drop point, stop to disable both the helicopter and communications tower, then enter the compound. Once there, they are to find Prytyka and question him on camera, transmitting this conversation live via a satellite uplink with their contact, Kuchma.

They are currently been flown to the drop point 2 miles from Adelie 14, and Kuchma is on the plane with them, providing them all with arctic gear and final requests.  They have access to thermal undergarments, snowsuits, boots, parkas, snow goggles, gloves and mittens, as well as a portable satellite phone and video camera, and several AKSU-74 sub machine guns.

"Many firearms are unreliable in the extreme Antarctic weather, so you might wish to take one," Kuchma cautions.

[As they approach, Allison slows when she sees the tracks. She glances to Drax and is glad that is seems no one is there - but she's still wary. She'll start to check around the area, trying to see what she can find. (investigate 16 & move silently 19)]

[ they would notice a large variety of equipment, including a tractor-mounted drill apparatus. several holes have been bored into the dense snow, with piles of dirt and filthy ice nearby.

drax would notice that the dirty stains in the snow are oil. ]

[She frowns. She's not sure if they were drilling for oil or if the machines are just in need of an oil change. She'll move to them to try and feel the engine and see if they're warm or not.]

I wonder if they were drilling for something specific? [She'll want to check the drill bit itself (search 15) but I'm not sure if her touching hte engine is her full action...]

[Drax frowns and straightens as he deeply considers the implication of the oil and comes up... entirely empty (wis 3).] I do not see the relevance to this mission. Oil is an ancient power source favored by primitive civilizations. It is not a weapon.

No, it's not a weapon on its own -- but it can be refined for fuel. [Knowledge Earth Science 17)]

If they're looking to power something and not pay the high prices of gas these days ... they might look for their own source. [She still agrees with him, though. It doesn't seem to be a smoking gun.]

Then we must find where the fuel is going. And destroy it.

Which could be a plan -- except Wynn said we need proof. This is proof of mining -- one of the things they're definitely not supposed to be doing here.

If they're mining then they're probably also making biological weapons -- which was the other concern they had.
