For starters, Sir Hughes is late to the equipment briefing by a good fifteen minutes.  Yep.  Sorry, guys.  When he does finally show up, he's coming down the hall in ridiculously casual wear, as if maybe he just rolled out of bed.  He mumbles an apology as he pats his pockets down to try and locate his card, before finally discovering it was tucked behind his ear with an "Aha!"  He fumbles it through the reader, and the doors labelled "Biohazard"  slide open.

He guides them through the bizarre multi-storied library and up the steps, beyond the models suspended from the ceiling that look like space age designs for jet planes, cars, boats, and any number of other things.  At the end of the balcony he swipes his card through the reader with a much higher degree of ease and then ushers them all inside.

"Well c'mon, c'mon, don't got all day," he mutters, even if he was the one who ... showed up late.  The doors  depress with a space age his. revealing a clean white laboratory, with rows and rows of tables and lab equipment set up. Numerous knights buzz around in white lab coats, working under microscopes and on computers, conferring over a number of projects.

"This is one part of the lab, where the Hoard does their research and general... bomb-building or whatever," he says, waving a hand vaguely in that direction as he heads for the left hand side of the room.  He places his palm on a panel there until the red light blinks green, and then moves into the narrower space there - a long room with rows of labelled cases and cabinets with transparent glass revealing what's inside.

S'what I said. [Still, he gruffly adds:] That they take credit cards, at least. You might have trouble at some of the smaller places - ma and pa kind of whatevers that think it seems fishy.

[chiakiyoshida]

Just Chiaki. [Obviously calling the other Knights 'Sir Whatever' has something to do with their ~seniority~ over her or something, idek.] You're Rayna, yes? Rayna Valentine.

[mellifluence]

Rayna, yeah. Nice to meet you. [Now she doesn't feel quite so alone.] Have you met your Knight yet?

Why would they think that?

Because it's not exactly American Express.

Sir Hughes is actually the one who, er, found me originally. [Because she happened to be hacking into the Knights' computer databases for fun, but she'd rather not mention that.] How did you come to join the Knights?

[chiakiyoshida]

Oh, I don't know. Devices to disable security systems, get past locks, access cameras, things like that. [Which she could probably theoretically whip up on her own, but shh.]

How often do you have to cut through concrete? [What? It's an honest question. :|]

[mellifluence]

At least you won't have to worry about being on time. [She'll...try to turn that into a perk for you or something, idk.] I got lucky, I guess.

A step above Discover and below American Express--got it. [But right now it makes a pretty good fan.]

[That sounds more exciting than this orientation, but it would probably be a bad idea to just get up and leave. After turning the gun around in his hands one more time, he lets it drop back into the case.]

Can't wait to get a crack at it.

[He has NO FREAKING CLUE about what either of those are, but she's so adorable that the comment makes him chuckle under his breath.]

[He snorts] Child's play. [And moves to a far box, unlatching it and lifting the glass with both hands] Anything in here, from the pens to the earrings'll do the trick.

It's been known to happen. [Smartass.]

[Knock it off, kiddos] Any other questions?

[He snorts, as if unimpressed] Just don't go getting all trigger happy like some of the noobs around here.

[mellifluence]

[It's a good thing she doesn't actually flush easily. She turns her head to look at Finnick and smile, but as soon as Hughes says anything she snaps her attention back.

Right, she was paying attention. But she's still smiling to herself when she shakes her head and busies herself with replacing the card in the envelope.]

[lear]

[ Lear is still sort of hung up on what he said earlier. ]

Bomb building.

[ She pops each b. ]

That was a joke, wasn't it?

[ Lear doesn't appear to have quite the age gap of the others, though then, she hasn't been withered by twenty-for years straight of intoxication. But she's riiiight there with him on the impracticality. ]

To look like the sort of person who can afford unnecessary gadgets, I should imagine.

And what good is that? Only useful until they stop working.

[This is all well and good if you're from District Three...] I'll be sure to let you know when I've got a concrete wall that needs to be killed.

[Chiaki looks amused by his reaction.] Earrings? Mm, sounds interesting. I'll have to check those out. [And maybe make improvements, if she can.]
