With most of the team staunchly convinced that about to go check out Area 51, they head off to Guadalajara, Mexico, to investigate local rumors of a crash site outside the city. One of the best things about this little trip is that even in February, it's in the seventies, so there's definitely a vacation air to arriving in the bustling city. They'll need to rent a car and head out in the direction of the supposed crash in the flat countryside. It's a fourteen hour flight so get comfortable.

You guys really don't get how freedom of information works, do you?

[ It's only slightly judgy. She sighs, though, because Malina can rest assured. Skye is a different, totally homeless story, and it's evident that she's speaking from a place of failure rather than a place of stubbornness now. ]

I don't have anything to run with. I've got a regular dude from Earth, a broken spaceship that I know there's no way the four of you are letting me get away with, a secret base with nothing in it, and a secret organization without a name. [ She gestures to Kali on that last one. ] I'll be lucky if they don't kill themselves laughing when I start talking about alien ship crashes.

[ So to summarize: homeless girl living out of her van with no van, hacker with no laptop and no hacker back-up. Teaming up with the Knights is LITERALLY the worst for everyone who they come in contact with. ]

[It really is. And Malina is quiet as she leans back in her seat for a moment, clearly weighing the pros and cons of this in her head because while she did have permission to reveal the organization to Peter when the time came, Skye was her discretion and while she had definitely proven herself to keep a cool head when it came to combat situations, is she really knight material?

... Then again, that's not really her department. That's Wynn's. She just tends to know potential when she sees it. If anything she'd be a good ally to have, even if she doesn't become a knight herself.]

How much does freedom of information actually help people?

[She has a point. She's getting there.]

You put all this information out there and yeah, the world knows about it, but that doesn't stop it from happening. It just sheds light in dark places and helps people know that the world is an more complicated place than it already is. It doesn't give them the tools they need to handle it and it doesn't help them protect themselves or the people in those situations.

[There's a pause as she lets that argument sink in, before she asks.]

So do you want to be the girl with the flashlight or do you want to be the one actually helping people and protecting them from those shadows?

[ meanwhile, with a 25 repair check it took all of two seconds for peter to open a panel back here and then swear in some alien language loud enough for everyone to hear it ] Aw, COME ON!!

[ambitionist]

[meanwhile, solely in peter's hearing range lmao] So ... it's probably a little more complex than a boot. [that was the word I wanted earlier. tagging at work is hard.]

[ stage whispers: ] I don't think that is a good sound. [ which is followed by, at her normal voice level, a more succinct version of malina's pitch. ] So do you wanna join our gang? It's not blood in, blood out like an actual gang, you can leave if you want. But you might like it! There's a lot of computers. You can meet Zero. He wears a bathrobe.

[ SELLIN' IT. if there is a roll for fucking adorable, kali demolished it. come home with her, skye. be her friend!! ]

[ Uhhhhhhhh. She looks amused, definitely endeared to Kali, definitely tempted. But something holds her back. ]

I don't even know what your gang is. She says she's a Guardian of the Galaxy, Alex said he's with Ripley's, and you said Karthur Institute. [ She gestures to the appropriate places for each of those lists. Carol as the GotG, back onto the bed of the truck for Alex where Peter is shouting, and to Malina for Karthur Institute. ] Who are you people, really?

We really do work for the Karthur Institute.

[She'll then pause for dramatic effect, because this is the big reveal here.]

But that's the public face of an organization called the Knights of the Silver Dragon.

[ he turns around to stare at alex, gesturing to the panel ] They took the engine out!

[ambitionist]

The fuck? How? [seriously though HOW??? do they have alien mechanics?????? he moves closer to stare into the panel with him.]

[ Any surprise that Skye might have shown is overwhelmed by excitement; she turns from Malina to look at Kali, swatting a hand against her shoulder. ]

You're a freaking Knight? Like of the round table, and the shining armor? Holy crap.

They call me Sir. The gun you used is called an Excalibur. There is a round table, too. And the armor is... pretty shiny, I think. [ she doesn't get the appeal of ~knights or whatever, but she knows the pertinent mythology. ]

There's more to it than that.

[Not that she discounts your fangirling there, Skye, but it's more than armor and round tables.]

We do a lot of good for a lot of people around the world, and have been for a really long time.

[hacker]

This is so cool!

[ She lets out a little squeal, then presses a hand to her chest, exhaling. ]

Okay. Chill. [ Breathing exercises. ] Be cool. [ In a more natural voice, ] That's why you're helping Peter with his ship. [ She glances back there, speaking of. ] Which ... really doesn't sound like it's in good shape. What's the plan, bring him along too?

That was the original plan, anyway. My boss wanted to talk to him, at least. He was a bit shakier on the Rising Tide, but I think you've at least earned a conversation with him. Even if the Knights aren't right for you, we could always use another friendly hacker on the outside.

[Not everything can be solved by the Hoard, after all.]

Actually she's a hacker slash blogger slash activist.

Not just the boss. There are... other people who'll want to meet him. [Even if he's the wrong Peter Quill. He's still got his friends, and they're going to want to meet this version too. She glances back at the ship.]

I guess I'd better... break that news to him. [On the bright side, if anyone has the resources and abilities to fix a space ship's engine, it's the Knights. Doodoodoo joining Alex and Peter at the ship now.]

[hacker]

[ Now she's genuinely mulling it over instead of just being excited about the prospect of actual knights. Serious thought. Steadily, she nods, but not without some reservation apparent. ]

Okay. No promises, but ... I'll meet with him.

[bredinthebone]

[Malina nods with a small smile, before leaning back in her seat again.]

Good. I think you'll like him. Just don't let him intimidate you.

[Not that that's easy because it's Wynn and he's intimidating by nature, but Malina ... well, she doesn't really let anything intimidate her. She's been tiny all her life, she's not about to start giving in now.

And then she'll shout back after Carol.]

Make sure he didn't find any tracking devices!

[Because, you know, that was what he originally went back there for, and if they're taking this back to London, she is not leading some mysterious Mexican military group back to Knights HQ.]

[ carol gets to come back to peter freaking out here with alex ] I can't believe this. [ he kicks the side of the hull, promptly injuring his foot and let out a silent 'ow', shaking it out ] They gutted her.

It's probably too late to sneak back in and steal the parts. [thanks alex i'm sure that really made peter feel better.] There, uh, might be someone who can repair it though. [i mean there are a lot of weird ass people in the castle ... who knows??????] Build a new engine.

[hacker]

[ Shaking her head, Skye looks between those still in the truck cab. ] Does he make a habit of trying to intimidate people?

[felidity]

No, he's just... [ she licks her lips, trying to think of the right word. ] He has a presence.

[Malina nods in agreement because that is an accurate assessment, but she will throw in:]

[Because, well, he is. Short people problems.]

Got a lot of parts for a M-ship here, do you? Earth's come a long way since I left. [ he said. sarcastically. he scrubs one hand over his face, leaning on the hull. ]

Well. Guess if I'm gonna be stuck anywhere, at least it's home.

[not impressed with peter's sassiness, he just quips back flatly] That's the spirit.
