Two bodies have been found in downtown London, likely the victims of attacks by some sort of Shadow creature. To prevent a panic, the police are investigating the matter as a dog attack and a potential robbery, while slipping the case under the table to Wynn and his Knights to look into further. Whatever did this is big, nasty, and seems to have taken down the victims without their even struggling. For now, the team is splitting up to look into the crime scenes more closely.

You're welcome, sir.

[And then he hangs up the phone, turning back to Jared.]

He said you guys should have a list of known cult members? He'd like them tailed for now. [Then he looks at the others.] We need to check out the other crimes scenes, make sure the fit the pattern. Wynn's gonna look into some things while we're doing that.

[ jared nods an affirmative, moving off to make said call. dean watches him go, and then turns his attention back to sam ] Didn't realize the big guy did legwork.

You'll find that he's a great deal more than a figurehead for the knighthood. [Helen goes back to the location information she has for the crime scenes remaining.]

[ annnd for dean: spot 10, investigate 9, gather info nat 20??? i think that means he took one glance at the crime scene then went and spent an hour interviewing a blonde at the local bar. jk. HE LOVES YOU ROSE.

anyway, what they find corresponds directly with the other cases, indicating that they fit precisely with the pattern. again, more information shows up for each of them, connecting them to having joined some kind of cult, whose description seems to match the children of chaos. by this point it's day time again, and jared orders a number of police to begin open surveillance of known members of the cult in the city.

what they would also come to note, in examining all these bodies, is that no matter which other parts of the body were ravaged in the attack, the chest cavity is always among those torn open - and the heart is always one of the organs that is missing in its entirety.

wynn has called to say he has something of a lead, but will need a few days. until then, he and jared believe that the sudden surge of police monitoring the potential victims may discourage whoever is behind this for a few days, at least.

[Sam's leaning forward in his seat, elbows resting on his knees, his eyebrows furrowed as he seems to be thinking really hard.]

So, why the heart? Do we think they're being eaten, or is it a cover and they're actually being taken?

I can think of a couple things that eat hearts, but I'm not sure how the cult angle figures into it.

They could be serving the needs of a creature in order to exploit it for some other ability it has. Or Sam might be right. Perhaps the organs aren't being eaten at all. There are an innumerable amount of sacrifices or religious rites where hearts could be pulled into play.

If they're not being eaten ... maybe they're trophies. Doesn't seem like the type, though. It's too risky to cover it up with an animal like that, too much possibility of them being eaten accidentally.

I'm gonna put my chips on rituals involving hearts usually spelling bad news.

That does seem to be the trend.

[He seems a little agitated. He doesn't like the fact that they've hit something that feels kind of like a dead end. Hopefully they can get some more information soon, maybe from one of the cultists the police are tailing.]

[Helen simply hums her agreement. This one is going to be a doozy.]

Could be ritual sacrifice to some kind of Shadowkind god. The Aztecs had to be worshiping one of them under a different name. Maybe whoever it is is back in business.

It also seems a little weird that the Children of Chaos would be worshipping Janus, considering what he represents. Time, endings, and doors don't exactly seem to match up with chaos and mayhem.

Janus as a chaos god is an older take on him, though. A lot of that other crap came later.

If it is a god that carried over from the Shadow world, his true domains could have muddied with time. Or the Children of Chaos are doing this in his name to throw us off their scent.

[She sighs. Trying to make sense of chaotic rituals is hard.]

Can't say I'm big on any of our options if it is a god who's evil and into chaos. Lord of Three Crowns, maybe? [ he frowns, totally just making guesses, clearly. ]

We should follow the lead with Janus before we start exploring other options. [focus plz]
