The streets of Bern swell with the myriad sights and scents of its industry: the wood and polish of carpenters' shops, tantalizing aromas wafting from dozens of bakeries, and the heavy oil scent of artists.  Meanwhile, hundreds of rich colors give the district an appearance of a holiday festival.  The townhouse of Asheron Coyl comes into view, perched on a small rise that overlooks the street.  A low fence covered in vines abuts the street.  A gate opens onto a flagstone path that wends past frozen flower beds, fountains, and sculpted shrubs to the front doors.  A bell hangs next to the gate, reading "Please ring bell" in several languages.  With an 11 disguise check, Nyna didn't really bother to dress all fancy, opting instead for her paladin armor, sorry guys.   She can be the sexy bodyguard.

[ gus' weak lightning bolt is still enough to shatter purple entirely. the others chink away a bit at green, but it's still standing. pink tries to hit gus again ineffectively from the end (atk 14), as red continues to fail hitting felicity (atk 10). green stays on cara (atk 11), far too slow to present a challenge. ]

[Cara continues her attacks, trying each time to ensure that both of them are going to count for something. (atk 17 | dmg 6, atk 19 | dmg 3) ]

[And Felicity is just going to keep shooting at Red and staying far away from his ability to hit her. Not that he seems to have much (attack 20 total, damage 6 if that hits).]

[Cara watches as her enemy falls to the ground. She then turns to see who else needs assistance and upon seeing that Felicity is still dealing with hers, she'll move to strike at Red. (atk 12, atk 11) Clearly she's too slow at the moment.]

[And that thing is probably dead now, but if not she's going to still shoot it one more time (attack nat 20, 32 total, damage 8). She's just really annoyed by this thing that can't seem to touch her and wants it to die already.]

[Felicity huffs as she steps back, before glancing towards the direction they were heading in. If there are traps planted, they're probably heading in the right direction.]

[ She points at one of the stone slabs, the one in the direction they'd been trying to go. ]

That's not the sort of magic you can just dispel.

mellie, meanwhile, is still pawing at the other side. /muffled bear noises ]

[Felicity will also do the same, scanning the room for what triggered the doors in the first place (spot 31).]

[ annnd they find a secret button on the wall behind one of the felled suits of armor, both slabs rumbling back up into the ceiling.

the far door reveals an irregularly shaped chamber beyond, where paintings of all sizes, styles, and subject matters cover the walls. a beautiful scene of an otherworldly sunset hangs next to a portrait of a red-scaled humanoid with silver eyes and massive horns protruding from its head. across the room, a scene of a group of human explorers standing before a colossal tree of fire hangs next to a serene still life of a ship at anchor with a rising sun in the background.

small one-foot-square etchings and woodblocks give way to massive four foot-by-eight-foot oil-on-wood paintings fit for a royal court. ]

[ You know, Alanna is going to just ... rip the monster portrait in half as she moves past it. Some paintings don't need to live. It seems like the safer choice. ]

[ mellie is freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee to sniff everyone before lumbering after them into the painting chamber. ]

I'm staring to hate art. [ he peers around for clues whilst mellie sniffs around for the trail they were following. (spot 30, survival 31 + scent & track) ]

[Felicity will do the same, searching through the various paintings while keeping an ear out for trouble (search 21, listen 15).]

I'm certainly never going to look at art museums the same way again.

[ felicity notices a painting of a frumpy man sitting on a bench reading a book out of the corner of her eye, when she swears she sees him turn a page. as she walks closer, she'd notice that his eyes move back and forth as he reads.

mellie follows the trail to an apparent dead end at a wall beneath a wall sconce, while gus notices a strange painting of black smoke, which seems to roil beneath the surface of the painting. ]

[Her gun comes up when she sees movement, but when she sees the man sitting on the bench she hesitates, waiting to see if there's any sign of attack.]

Anyone see any other paintings with monsters in them?

[She isn't sure if this painting is a threat, the guy they've been looking for or just a magical experiment, but she's not taking any risks with anything else.]

[Cara moves through the room, looking at the images in the paintings (spot 24) to see if anything seems more monstrous than first glance.]
