Strange transmissions cutting into radio stations with no recognizable source. Mysterious messages in Shadowkind languages that no one's been able to decipher. And very few leads on where to go with all of this, except for a couple names of some of the random citizens who seem to have received the messages. It's hardly much to go on, but definitely an interesting mystery, that takes the small team into the heart of NYC. They arrange their flight to arrive after sundown, for Davin's sake, and he's pretty openly scornful about being assigned to what's likely a wild goose chase.

I think this is bigger than what Wynn first suspected. Something's blocking my attempts to break through to the signal-- [ abruptly her entire screen is blanked, replaced by a single image - a black pentacle on a field of red, laced through with what look like veins. lis'sa lifts her hands off the keyboard instantly, as if afraid of being harmed, which is maybe wise because a few moments later, the keyboard begins sparking, and then the screen goes dead. ]

That sort of looked like a booby trap... spell. [ her eyes flicker between sawyer and davin like I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MAGIC???? now, runes, runes she can babble about. but magic on a whole??? she doesn't have any ranks in spellcraft ok. ]

[ that's enough for sawyer to actually realize that the symbol itself isn't a rune at all. whatever it was meant to convey had nothing to do with the magic that just fried the laptop. ] Someone has a technomage on staff, certainly.

[Bobbing her head.] Any way you guys can use your... gadgety things or Knight hook ups to run a search on that symbol? Cause that - [Pointing at Alice's art.] Didn't do that. [Nodding at the laptop.] It could be like a, logo or something?

Don't we have a technomage on staff? [ but she's taking a picture of her leg and running it through drakenet. (research 19) ]

We do. [ drakenet turns up only general information on the purposes of pentagrams... nothing about this particular sigil with that background :( ] I think we should return to the castle with this information. Perhaps we can fake some kind of press release recall on the product in the meanwhile, to try to get it out of some of those homes.

Otherwise, I'm afraid there's little we can do from here.

[Her gaze slides from Alice to Lis'sa, Davin then Matt, eyes narrowed like she's waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump out and laugh in her face.]

[She opens to mouth to say something but cuts herself off with an infinitesimal shake of her head.]

[ alice is not sure that's enough time to pack but... she's not going to mess with lis'sa, so she just looks over at sawyer like, ] That sound good to you?

Uh - [There's only a moment of hesitation, like maybe she thinking like Alice but a second later she's shrugging like it's no big deal.] I can make that work, sure.

I'll help you. [ pushing up from the couch, she holds out her hand like WOULD YOU LIKE A RIDE FERRET FRIEND??? bc it's been five seconds so she is attached. ]

[Welp. Sawyer knows where Oscar will be whenever he's not with her at least as he totally ignores Sawyer to cheerfully spring from the ground to Alice's hand. Not stopping there, he scurries up her arm and perches on her shoulder, doing everything but announce 'lets roll' from his new position.]

[ she makes a face like whoops! but doesn't seem too fussed, tipping her head to nudge oscar. ]

Yeah, sorry, I'm from the city... not this one, thank God, but a city. It's habit.

[ she leads them out of the room and down the hall, making sure she has a key card as they go. weeeeeeeee~ ]

[Falling into step with Alice.] So what's with the New York hate? [She doesn't look offended however, more amused if anything.]

Gotcha. [A wry grin pulling at the corners of her mouth.] And you got involved with these guys how, exactly?

I'm a... well, I was a magician's assistant and an escape artist, but it pays for shit, so I got a part time job sort of freelance breaking into places for insurance companies so they could make sure the security was up to snuff. There was an HQ in Boston and I ran into them a few times when we were both stealing magical artifacts from the same place. I always had to put my stuff back so sometimes I swapped out the real ones they stole with the fake ones and after them asking if I wanted a job enough times I just gave in. [ also there was a Thing with Wild Magic but that's not the point, that was just the push over the edge that alice needed to pack up and move to england. also because the boston office blew up. ]
