The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ Here comes Alec (with a Disguise of 21 and 24 for women). He's got a swagger, but it's rare that Alec doesn't have a swagger. It's also rare he doesn't have alcohol on hand. It helps when he has to come to these things. He's appreciating the new talent though.

He slides up along side her and with a smile he clears his throat. ]

If you get drunk it helps.

[leftenants]

[She smiles back, lifting her glass before tipping it back and taking a drink. She's one step ahead of him, though she has every intention of enforcing moderation and keeping her wits about her. Wouldn't do to get trashed first day on the job, and that's what this is, for all that's unfamiliar about it.]

I'm aiming for slightly relaxed.

So you all party every time you have new recruits?

[monticora]

Well, you're doing a bang up job of that.

[ Alec smiles at her and shifts to cross his arms over his chest. Alec was worried he wouldn't adjust to living here, but it's been an easier transition. Easier than waking up here and having to start his entire life over. ]

I don't know if they party every time. They have since I got here. I think it's their thing. [ He doesn't mind the freeze booze. ] Not a party fan? Cause that's just a crime.

[leftenants]

Trying, anyway. Little easier said than done, but I'll forebear.

[She shrugs easily, shaking her head before taking another sip of her drink.]

I wouldn't go that far. I like them just fine, just curious, that's all. Trying to get a feel for the place, figure out how things are done.

[monticora]

Trying is half the battle right? At least that's what they say.

[ Alec probably isn't the best to ask. Transgenics don't fail. They were built to be perfect. ]

Me too. Not as new as you, but I'm still getting used to the way crap's done around here. [ He sticks out a hand. ] Alec. You're Abbie if I remember.

[leftenants]

So I hear.

[Abbie likes to think there's a little bit more to it than that in most cases; determination goes a long way, but at the moment, 'trying' is good enough.]

How long? [She's curious.] Seems like we've got as many newer recruits as old vets, just about. Guess the boss is always looking for good people to fill out the ranks.

[That's good. Smart. Means he's not limiting himself. She smiles, reaching out to take Alec's hand and giving it a solid shake.]

You remember right. Good to meet you, Alec.

[ Alec takes a moment to think back. It wasn't that long ago, but long enough for him to settle a little bit. He'd come through the veil ages ago though. Spent most of his time doing what he could to stay alive and out of the spotlight. Old habits die hard. ]

Few months. So far no one's tried to kill me which is a pretty big step up from what I came from.

[ He felt a little safer here, but not by much. Not after what happened at the Hudson River. After the handshake he lets go. ]

What was your world like?

[leftenants]

Sounds like a definite perk.

[Any place where you don't have a target painted on your back has to be an improvement. Sometimes she feels like she's got one plastered on hers-- or some kind of beacon that calls out to demons and all things nefarious, but she figures it's just part of the job.]

I'd say 'normal,' but considering there's no universal definition for it, it won't fly. Besides, turned out things weren't quite as tame as I once thought. Actually, it turned out to be a little like this one-- except the magic and monsters weren't out in the open.

[ Far as Alec's concerned everyone has a target on their back from birth. Or ya know creation in Alec's case. He's lived with a target since he said fuck you to Manticore. You get used to it. ]

Mine was nothing like this place. Monsters were still hidden, but this place--a helluva lot cleaner.
