The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

We never really saw eye to eye. I think he's fine with it now, but I know it's still not the most honest thing a family member can do.

[She smiles.] I'm Zoe Weiss -- Adam's sister.

[They haven't talked in a while, but Kate remembers Adam (wisdom 19). She smiles in return.]

Kate Beckett. And yeah, I remember Adam. We talked a few times, when he first joined up.

[kineticist]

I'll apologize for whatever he might have said. [She smirks.]

Just the blanket sister-apology.

[She laughs, before shaking her head.]

No, he was fine. I've heard far, far worse out of the bail jumpers I used to track down before I joined here.

[kineticist]

Bail jumpers? That sounds exciting.

[killmypatience]

It definitely wasn't boring.

[And it had a bit of a challenge to it, which she liked.]

I learned that tracking people down was one of my talents.

[kineticist]

A talent that comes in handy here - I'm sure.

[Zoe cants her head and looks over at a bottle on the bar behind them. With a bit of concentration she uses Far Hand to move the bottle from behind the bar to right in front of them.]

My talents aren't boring, either, but I don't actually use them that often.

[killmypatience]

[Her eyebrows go up a bit at that, watching curiously as she nods.]

Yeah, mine aren't that impressive. Usually much more mundane stuff.

[kineticist]

There's nothing wrong with mundane. [She smiles.] Most of the time, I prefer not to use my talents. It just raises too many questions for those that don't trust them.

[killmypatience]

[She nods.]

I can see how that would work. Even as open as this world is, people still don't trust what they don't understand.

[kineticist]

Yeah... it definitely isn't a very forgiving society when it comes to new things.

I manage though. I learned how to shoot a gun when I was fifteen. I can use my talents to steady my shot. I haven't quite figured out how to keep up with the speed of the bullet to curve my aim, but I am practicing.

[Kate nods as she listens.]

I think in some ways the Veil did me a favor. I didn't really have a "normal" to compare to when it comes to magic and everything else. I just have whatever it is I learned here. The way the world is became my normal.

[kineticist]

That's actually a really nice way of looking at things.

[killmypatience]

[She gives a bit of a shrug.]

It seems like a better option than being frustrated over things I can't remember. And since no one's come through the Veil yet claiming to know me ... it's not like they're questions I can get answers to.

[kineticist]

Would you want the answers if you could have them?

[killmypatience]

I don't know.

[She was actually talking about this with Elena, who had also forgotten everything when she fell through the Veil beyond a few names.]

I'd like to know the facts. What I did, if I had any family, that sort of thing, but ... it can get complicated. Especially when you have someone coming through claiming to know you but you don't remember them, so you can't feel the same way, you know?

[kineticist]

[Zoe nods.]

Speaking as someone who has family in the knights, it's not always the best thing to have all the answers.

[killmypatience]

[Her eyebrow raises at that, and there's a hint of a smirk. She's seen families, even if she doesn't quite remember her own (sense motive 21).]

They make things complicated?

[kineticist]

Maybe it's exclusive to my family. More like my brother, but I can easily blame my family on that one too.

[Let's just say that her parents were the sort that when people write a fairy tale they put parents like theirs in charge of the Evil part of things and then everyone is shocked when one kid goes a bit evil and the other rebels against it all. Can you guess which one Zoe is? Either way, she probably waves it off as if it's nothing and they talk about little things and how things are doing in Andres and what's next for the Knights - that sort of talk.
