The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

That doesn't sound too far off from me. If there was something dangerous out there, I was usually the one off tracking it and taking it down. Not that I didn't have help sometimes, but you know.

We always work in teams, so it's never just us on our own. My last big one was a six month stint in Siberia tracking an akhlut. The thing was a beast so we had to take it out in the end, but it was a bitch to catch out of the water.

Akhlut. It's like a were-orca. Most of the time it just swims around under the water, terrorizing seals and what not but when it decides it wants to cause some real damage it takes on wolf form and goes around eating eskimos.

A were-orca. And it turns into a wolf, too? I mean, come on, that's intense even for me.

All kinds of crazy shit comes through the Veil. We try to learn as much as we can about it and neutralize it when needed.

So instead of genetic mutations, it's the Veil? Otherwise, this sounds like a pretty typical day at the office for me.

It can tone down on the were-penguins, though. Are there were-dolphins, too?

I honestly don't know how many "were" things are out there. I know we've got a couple werewolves in the knighthood, but I've heard of all kinds of things.

Maybe I'll just have to look into it, then. Or ask my Mom. I bet she'll know.

Yeah, I know she is. She looked a little freaked out though, honestly.

I get it, though. Forty years is a long time to expect someone else to show up.

[She nods in agreement.]

It is. And a lot of the time, when people fall through the Veil, they get told that they shouldn't hope for it, you know? It's a one way trip. Odds that you're going to see the people you love again are slim.

I didn't exactly get a whole lot of positivity about it either.

I think that after having been here for so long, doing the job we do, she might be worried it's a little too good to be true.

[Which is true, and doesn't delve into the fact that Ashley was also dead at the time.]

Give her a little time to wrap her head around it. She'll come around.

[She waves her off.]

She was fine. A little freaked out, I guess, but I meant like the people I ran into when I first got here. I doubt I'm the first person who wanted to find a way home and got pretty much laughed at.

[Her mistake. She nods and continues forward with the conversation.]

Probably not. But you would think that they'd at least learn to handle it a little more delicately.

[If she knew the circumstances of her mother's surprise, she probably would have made the same one.]

Eh, some were better than others. We always remember the worst ones, though.

They do tend to be the kind that leaves the strongest impression.

My Mom was my biggest reason for wanting to go home, though. Now that she's here, the rest is easy to deal with.
