The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Kate gets her attention easily, and Abbie turns to face her, holding up her glass with a smile to show she's already a step ahead.]

Thought I'd help myself-- though I'm starting to run low. I don't think a second would be too irresponsible of me.

[Anything past that and she might be pushing it. She's here to do a job, not cut loose, necessarily.]

There are a lot more people here than I thought.

There are a lot of us. Put all of us together and we're a small army in our own right.

[And one that can do a hell of a lot of damage if they put our mind to it.]

And we do have down time, you know. You're allowed to relax - we live here and we work here, so don't worry so much about being responsible. This is your party. You should enjoy it.

You can do a lot of good with that kind of manpower.

[Even with as small as Team Witness is back in Sleepy Hollow, they still manage to make quite an impact. She can only imagine what an organization this size is capable of. She figures she's due to see for herself before too long.

She gives Kate a knowing smile, followed by an easy shrug.]

I appreciate the sentiment, but it's a little more complicated than that. I like to keep busy. [Needs to, more like.] I probably should take advantage of downtime, but-- little hard to really enjoy it, given the circumstances.

[She's missing people. People not easily forgotten.]

Well, since you're new, you'll still have plenty to do. Training, learning your way around, getting to know people. We're generally a pretty friendly community, so I'm sure you'll find ways to keep your mind occupied before long.

[Not that she can really say for sure. She doesn't have anyone she remembers enough to miss.]

That's good news. Not sure I have it in me to be a slacker. Have to impress the new boss.

[Partly true, anyway.]

It's a lot to take in all at once, but I've always been a fast learner. I figure I'll find my niche before too long.

[She nods in agreement.]

I'm sure you will. It's not that hard to figure out once you get into the day to day routine. The castle looks more intimidating than it actually is.

Let me guess. After awhile, it really starts to feel like home?

[She gives Kate a wry but appreciative smile.]

I trust you. Figure I'll get comfortable sooner rather than later.

[She nods in agreement, but she's probably not the best example to go off of. She doesn't really remember her actual home.]

It comes with time. Just like everything else.

[It's only after she says it that Abbie realizes it might have been a poor choice of words, but she opts to gloss over it, smile persisting as she lifts her glass.]

Of course. I'd like to think I lucked out in the mentor department, too.

[She could have handled whoever Wynn chose to pair her with, she's pretty damn sure, but she's glad it's Kate. Even a little bit of familiarity goes a long way in a situation like this, she imagines.]

So when all the partying is over-- what's the next move? I hear there are a handful of different factions within the knights I should be looking into.

[She nods.]

There's five different sects - the Dragon's Hide for fighters, the Dragon's Tongue for diplomats, the Dragon's Fire for magic users, Dragon's Hoard for the researchers and scientists, and the Dragon's Light, which is for healers. Then there's freelancers, who don't really fit in any particular sect.

[She holds up a hand.]

I'm a freelancer. But you'll have some time to ask around and figure out which sect works best for you.

Sounds like I'll be doing my homework for a bit.

[Even if she opts to follow in Kate's footsteps, she'd like to be as informed as possible. Only proper way to make a decision like that.]

How do freelancers fit into the whole deal?

Not really that differently from any other sect. Each mission is made up of a collection of knights from all the different sects. Being a freelancer means we can operate in a lot of different functions - like we can be the muscle, but we can also work as a diplomat if need be.

[Not that Kate is all that great at being the muscle, but she's good with a gun in a pinch.]

[That sounds a little more up her alley than any one specialization, but she won't make any decisions until she's done her research.]

So it takes someone flexible.

[That gets a smile of approval.]

I can see that being a good fit for you.

[From one lady cop to another.]

[She nods in agreement with a small smile.]

Better than anything else. I usually prefer not to box myself in.

Very smart.

[She lifts her glass, smile hitching a little bit wider.]

Better not to limit your options.

[She glances back to the party at large, pressing her lips together for half a moment.]

I should probably be mingling, shouldn't I. Mind if I bend your ear again later about getting situated?

[She nods in agreement, before giving her arm a light squeeze.]

Of course. Enjoy the party.

[And with that, she will wander off to do some mingling herself. /scene]
