The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ He's actually kind of glad for the company, so when he hears someone talking to him, Henry looks over with a little smile. Though he's not about to blurt out his problems right away, he's also not going to keep it bottled up. ] Sort of. Not necessarily to talk, but to...not talk, if that makes sense.

[ Not to...straight up avoid, but just to prepare himself for conversation, if he happens to see his mom. Either of them, really. ]

[His eyebrow raises slightly because he's not entirely sure he does (wisdom 9). Interpersonal issues are not really his strong suit.]

Checking on someone?

Sort of. Both my moms are knights. [ It's weird, he knows, especially because his entire family remembers him being 13 years old. Of course, he doesn't think to mention his mothers aren't...together. ] One of them has no memory of me at all anymore and the other mom isn't really...happy about her being here. Do you know Emma Swan or Regina Mills?

[David nods at the first name, not to the second.]

Emma and I were on a mission together a couple years back. It seems like there are a good chunk of people here from your world.

There are, which is mostly a good thing. I'm glad they're here, it's just hard when the Veil screws up their memories the way it does. I think I got kind of lucky, and at least my dad mostly remembers everything.

[ He can't complain too much. ]

I can't really say I have that problem. I haven't run into anyone from home here.

[ Henry shakes his hand in return. ]

How long have you been here?

[ He gets the sense it's been a while. ]

[He pauses for a moment, thinking back for a moment to try and figure it out.]

I think it'll be three years, next month.

Do you...remember much from home? The Veil, it's so weird what it takes and what it lets us keep.

[ He's grateful his dad seems to have his memory mostly intact. ]

[He nods.]

I remember most of where I was from, but I can't remember the people I was with. I know they were there, but names or faces are just ... not there.

[ As curious as he is, he wonders sometimes if asking about the memories people still have or lost will do more harm than good. Some people wanna talk, others don't. ]

Sorry. Not really the happiest topic of conversation.

I came through the Veil a few years ago, I never thought I'd see my family again. Maybe...maybe people you know, they'll come here too, and they'll remember you. [ It's not perfect, but he likes to try finding the good in things if he can. ]

[He nods slowly.]

Maybe they will. Stranger things have happened.

[And he could use the back up with all of the gods in his life as of late.]

[ He'll hope that for him, it's the least he can do. Everyone deserves to have someone from home here, though if the Veil takes all their memories, too, it doesn't really matter, he supposes. :/ ]

Oh, yeah. Way stranger. [ He smirks a little, because he can fully attest to that. ] So which sect do you belong to? I'm with Dragon's Tongue.

[He pauses for a moment, before smirking a little.]

Talking isn't exactly my strong suit.

[ He returns the smirk. And he gets it. Everyone's good at different things. As a kid, he wasn't nearly as self-aware as he is now, and it's easy for him to admit the opposite. ]

Unlike me, who...sometimes talks too much when I probably shouldn't.

But I'm in the same sect as my grandma, which is cool, but probably weird since she doesn't look much older than me. It's...complicated.

[He smirks a bit at that, before nodding.]

One of those Veil things?

[ He smirks and nods. ] Yeah, the last time anyone in my family saw me, I think I was twelve? And I'm eighteen now, so...it's been weird for everyone.

[He nods slowly.]

If my mom came through the Veil ... the last time she saw me I was sixteen.

[And it's obvious he's changed a lot since then.]

She wouldn't recognize you. And if the Veil took a lot of her memories, it's almost better sometimes if they don't come.

[He nods in agreement.]

But that's not anything we get a choice over, unfortunately. It's just one of those things we can't really control.

At least here, we kind of have a chance to...make our own family sometimes, you know?

[He nods in agreement.]

I think found families mean more, in a lot of ways. You're choosing them for yourself, rather than with them because you share the same blood.

[ Smiling sincerely, Henry speaks again. ]

I hope you've found that here? [ He really does mean that. He'd hope that for anyone. ]

[He nods. He's getting there slowly, but that's not the fault of anyone here. David just takes a long time to warm up to people.]

Yeah. Bits and pieces here and there.

Well. I know we've just met, but...we could be friends. Eventually.

[ He's just got a big heart. ]
