after-party ♔ march

Jeux d'eau - Ravel

WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions (if you are uncertain if your character would be at the castle for this, ask!)
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || March 1st, 2015, 6:00PM [backdated]
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam

The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Yeah, I think it's one of those things where you just gotta dive in to get used to it. It's probably harder for people from the other side of the veil, they have to get used to so much more... [ she pauses, eyebrows knitting together. ] Are you... from the other side?

[She nods, just once.]

I am, though some things aren't so different between here and there. I've learned to be open-minded. [Adjusting is going pretty smoothly for her.] I take it you're not?

Yeah, I grew up here. Not... here, obviously. In Boston, but I was born in this world. It's still kind of disorienting when people come through the veil and aren't sort of obviously from the Shadow World.

Sounds like I still have a lot to learn. All these different worlds of origin-- as far as anyone knows, they're infinite, aren't they?

[How could you ever quantify something like that?]

I'm still not entirely clear on what the Shadow World is. What makes it different from all the rest?

[ oh, education, alice latches on to this, sipping her drink and crossing one around across her waist. ]

The Shadow World, the one people reference the most is called Faerûn. For like... millennia it was the only world that joined with ours. It's where the elves and dwarves and dragons and drow and "Shadowkind humans" are from. Sometimes here the bloodlines can be really diluted, aasimars may not even know who they're descended from because they've been here so long and there's so many generations between them. There's all sorts of Dragon-blooded and Elf-blooded people that were born here but had an ancestor from Faerûn.

It wasn't until... a few years ago, I think -- [ she shrugs, unsure of the exact timeline. ] -- that people started coming through from worlds that were basically like this one. When I imagine people coming through the veil I still imagine Legolas and Gandalf trying to figure out Twitter, but now there are people like you who already know what Instagram is and aren't likely to stab a car with a sword because they're afraid of the giant metal beasts.

So if someone says "the Shadow World", they're almost exclusively talking about Faerûn. Now there's just... a bunch more, with less capital letters, I guess.

A varying number of origins means fewer severe cases of culture shock, I imagine. [The idea of someone attacking a cab is entertaining, at least.] I appreciate the history lesson. Helps to fill in some of the blanks.

[Of which there have been many, but she's been doing her best to gather what information she can, tuck it away for future reference as she gets her land legs.]

Does anyone know what caused the sudden influx of people crossing over?

Not that I know of? Probably a ton of theories on it, but that's not my area of expertise. I'm sure someone in the Hoard could fill you in on that though.

I'll make it a point to ask.

[Hoard. Mental note made.]

Even if theories are all there is, I'd still be interested to see what people think.

Maybe... hmm. [ she hums, deciding which of the hoard people would be best to ask. ] Helen or Gar. Lis'sa, too, if you can get past her being wicked intimidating.

I'm not intimidated by much.

[Not necessarily bragging, but to be as good at her job as she is, she really can't allow herself to be. She lifts her drink in thanks.]

Thanks for the names.

Yeah, no problem. I'm gonna go bring some food back to Will. [ she stoops to grab her shoes, and gives abbie a smile as she straightens. ] Congrats, by the way, and welcome, again.

[ she's just gonna flutter off with a little wave. until next we meet again, yo! ]
