The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Vi, please. [ so, obviously yes. she doesn't ask how malina knows who she is because she's the size of a small barge, she's pretty sure she knows why malina knows who she is. ]

[She'll remember that for next time. And her face is apologetic, not because what's coming is sympathy for something she's probably long past, but the fact that it's coming now, when she's least expecting it.]

vi falters, plate slipping in her hands. she just barely catches it, but a grape falls off and bounces away to be crushed underneath someone's dress shoes. it's been long enough that she imagines everyone has forgotten about it, found something else that's more important. and vi doesn't blame them, they all have complicated lives, they shouldn't have to think about vi's dead husband as much as she does. and she tries not to give them any indication that maybe she thinks about him more than is healthy.

which makes someone bringing it up out of the blue feel like sucking the air out of her lungs. she almost expects it when it comes to dovan or koraith or wynn, but malina is unexpected. ]

I. I, uh. [ she licks her lips. ] Thanks.

[Malina reaches forward when she sees her falter, hands moving gently to steady her because she knows she's caught her off guard and that wasn't fair. Vi isn't the only one who thinks about him. They've all had their friends that they've lost, lives ended because of the job they do and it isn't fair or right, but it happens. And from what she knows about the situation, he would have seen it as worthwhile.]

It just didn't feel right not to say it in person, you know? But if there's anything you need, don't hesitate to ask. We all have to take care of each other.

[Because that's what family does. They take care of them when they need it.]

[ vi's eyes dart wildly around for someone to come rescue her from this, supremely uncomfortable. it's isn't that she doesn't appreciate the sentiment, she does, it's just that she tries so hard to be flippant and blasé about it on the surface because that's how she copes.

and she's too taken aback to be anything but inconsolable about luthir. she nods, mute, and then... runs the fuck away, tremendously spry for her current condition. ]

[Malina cringes inwardly, watching her as she goes. She can't really blame her for running away, because that was probably both awkward and unwelcome, but she couldn't not say something.

One day, she'll be able to balance that line a little better, but for right now she'll just let her go and hope that things go a little better next time.]
