The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Nope. It sounds like it'd be funny, though.

[ Funny and not requiring a lot of thought. Just good fun. Which is perfect for this time of night. He leans back a little, getting more comfortable against the cushions, and then debates about whether or not to wrap an arm around her shoulders.

Come on, Henry.

He's brave in just about every other way. So. Yeah. He does it, reaching out to just lightly put an arm around her shoulders, making it easy for her to pull away if she'd rather not. ]

[Nope, she is totally good with that. Werewolves are tactile creatures by nature, and while Cora can be a bit standoffish when it comes to people she doesn't know this is different. It's Henry. And that in and of itself is enough for her to curl closer, only shifting enough until she finds a space that's comfortable and then settling as she starts the movie.]

Then let's try it.

[ Maybe it's overly sentimental of him, but when she gets comfortable against him, he can't help thinking they sort of fit together. He's not gonna go so far to think they were made to fit together; even with his belief in True Love and all that, that's...a little much for him at this age. But still, it feels natural and good. So he keeps his arm right there, perfectly comfortable as the movie starts.

He doesn't offer too much commentary, not wanting to disrupt the dialogue and flow of the movie, but of course, he's laughing just a few minutes into it. By the first half hour mark: ]

Okay, yeah, this was a good choice.

[impetere]

[She nods as she stays where she is. She doesn't shift or squirm just settles, and in some ways that's the most perfect part of it. She doesn't have to worry about finding the right position because in a lot of ways she's already in it.]

Yeah, the lead guy is really funny.

He is. They're all pretty funny. [ He thinks for a moment about stroking her hair, wondering if it's as soft as it looks, if she'll like it or think it's too much. But after a few more minutes pass, he takes another chance and plays with a few strands of her hair lightly. ]

Ditching that party was the best idea.

[It surprises her, but she doesn't mind. Her eyes glance down to his hand for a moment, letting him play with the ends of her hair, before glancing back to him again.]

Yeah, it was. I like it better when it's just us.

[better than the crush of people around them, all dressed up and talking about different things.]

[ This, right now, is perfect. He keeps stroking her hair idly, a soft smile on his lips. They're on the same page about enjoying each other's company over staying with that crowd so that makes him feel good. ]

Me, too. There, you're kind of just a face in the crowd. With you, it's...perfect.

I usually don't mind blending in.

[She's spent too much of her life hiding to really try and stand out. Even before the fire, she was supposed to hide who she was and what she was for her own safety. Even in the Knights, she doesn't mind using the sheer number of them to hide behind. She never wanted to stand out - she just wanted a family of people like her.

Her hand goes to his free one, idly brushing over the tips of his fingers.]

With you it's different.

[It's in a way that she's not entirely sure how to put into words, but he makes her feel special. She hasn't really had a lot of that.]

[ Henry likes socializing sometimes, he's the friendly type, but he'd be lying if he said Cora hadn't been on his mind when he showed up to the party. And though he would have been fine sticking around there with her, he's happier for the peace and quiet, just the two of them.

When she takes his hand, he feels his heart tighten in his chest for a moment, a tender smile playing on his lips as he squeezes her hand. ]

I know what you mean. Like everything just...falls into place.

[impetere]

[She glances down at their hands for a moment as she nods, before looking up at him again with a smile.]

Yeah. It's perfect.

[And she hasn't really had a lot of perfect things. She doesn't get that lucky.]

[ They keep taking gradual steps to get physically closer and become more connected, and Henry is just envisioning kissing her now. Each logical step has been well received and just the thought of this has his heart pounding, with both uncertainty and excitement. His thumb brushes over her knuckles and he clears his throat, suddenly cradling her cheek in his free hand, shifting so it's comfortable for both of them.

So close, so close. He smiles, as if silently asking if this is okay. ]

[She isn't really sure what she's consenting to, or what he needs from her, but she'll easily shift with him to the position he needs, looking up at him and trying to make it so her heart isn't pounding in her chest a million miles an hour. Thankfully, no one can really hear that but her.

But she'll smile back in return, shifting to lean just a little bit closer.]

[ His own heart is pounding, racing, flopping around. It feels like a staccato drum beat keeping rhythm within his heart, his throat is dry and he's trying hard to stay outwardly calm. Pretty quickly though, that facade will crumble, he knows, so it's time to just do it. And he does, leaning in to kiss her lips. It's soft, almost a whisper, but somehow confident, too. ]

[It's her first kiss ... her first anything, really, and while she can hear the pounding of his heart it kind of helps that he's as nervous about this as her. Some people would probably want someone confident, but she likes that they feel the same way - she only hopes that they're good nerves, at least.

It takes a moment before her hand moves to rest against his arm and she starts to lean into it in return, not entirely sure what to do, exactly, but following her instincts.]

[ It's definitely good nerves. Sure, there's a small part of him that's just slightly worried she won't want this but that feeling escapes the moment their lips connect, and then the pounding of his heart is just pure adrenaline and happiness. He really had no expectations of how this would go if they ever did kiss each other. He's never kissed anyone, but this moment is perfect. To him, it's perfect. ]

[impetere]

[At least they're on the same page there.

She holds the kiss for a moment before pulling back slowly, looking up at him with a small smile. She feels like she should say something, but she isn't entirely sure what to say after something like that. She's not pulling away completely though, just staying close as she tries to come up with the right words.]

That was ... nice.

[Those probably weren't the right words.]

[ Honestly, it takes his brain a moment to catch up when their lips part and it doesn't click right away that she's said something. He hears the words, though, he just reacts maybe a few seconds later than he should. There's a small smile on his face nonetheless.

Those are good words to him, really. And he reaches out, lightly brushing a few strands of hair back from her eyes. ]

I liked that.

[ Maybe not the right words either. He's scrambling to think of something better to say and falling short for the moment. ]

[Maybe not, but it's direct and to the point. There's no mincing his words or trying to find the hidden meaning. As far as she's concerned, it's more than good enough. She smiles a little wider before nodding.]

Me too.

[wanttobeahero]

[ It's such a relief now that Henry can just enjoy this moment and the ensuing feelings of euphoria. His smile is brighter, easier, and he reaches out, just tucking a few strands of hair behind her ear. ]

So it's obvious now, but...I really like you, Cora.

[impetere]

[her head tips towards his hand a bit and she nods with a smile.]

I really like you too. A lot.

[She'll eventually say something else and not just agree with everything he says, but she isn't really sure what to say and just glad he's agreeing with her.]

[ He's definitely feeling like an awkward teenager at the moment who is just still kind of awestruck and tongue tied so he doesn't even notice, really. He's just glad she's here. And he's more relaxed now so he leans back and stretches out a little, gets comfortable. His arm goes out, though, inviting her to sort of rest close to him if she wants. ]

Wanna finish watching the movie?

[she nods and will just shift to settle against him for the rest of the movie, where they will remain being cute and adorable. And we will pick them up when he gets back from Barovia. /scene?]
