It's been two years since a mission in the Bermuda Triangle led to the discovery of the hidden home of the race known as the Homo Magi - the original race of pure-blooded sorcerers.  Inflicted with a curse that causes them to fall in love at first sight with any mortal they see, they had secluded themselves there, taking slaves of those who were lost in the Triangle to help defend their city.  On that ill-fated mission, the Homo Magi Amara fell victim to the curse, falling in "love" with David Charming and defecting from her people in order to have the chance to be with him.  Now a danger to herself and potentially others, the Knights have sought a way to free her of her curse, so far to no avail.  Lila, however, has finally convinced Amara herself to help, convincing her that the only way to prove that her love for David is real is to prove that the curse has no bearing on it.  Amara has uncovered the location of the Homo Magi's original home: the lost city of Atlantis, where she believes they can uncover the truth about the curse's origins, and in so doing, a way to reverse it, and free her people of it once and for all.

To this end, the Knights are drifting out into the Atlantic Ocean in Hook's ship, seeking the whirlpool that will supposedly take them to the underwater city.

[ amara is too busy staring back at the rock that had appeared out of nowhere, her hand clamped around the railing, knuckles going white. ]

... This isn't homo magi magic. [ it's said so low, so strained that it might barely be audible. she doesn't budge either as hook brings the boat around... and straight into the waiting jowls of a hideous monstrosity. at least twenty five feet long, and several tons, it has four long tentacles writhing from its flanks, its green body glistening with thick, clear slime.

most notable, however, are its frighteningly intelligent blood red eyes, three of them, slit-shaped, protected by bony ridges. its mouth is lamprey-like, with tendrils and shorter tentacles dangling from its lip. its body looks segmented, like a monstrous insect, although it's long and tubular, akin to a bizarre eel. ] No...

Bloody hell! [Killian stares up at the monstrosity that as a pirate, he knows all about (arcane lore nat 20), with an expression of terror rarely seen on the bold pirate's face.] The great aboleth. [His hands are tied to the wheel, but he shouts loud enough to be heard through the waves.]

Best be certain to kill it thoroughly, or let it kill us instead! This one's likely just a scout, and if it fetches more they'll surely dominate our minds and drag us beneath the sea to serve as slaves! Death would be a less cruel fate. MAN THE CANNONS!

[ two of the creature's tentacles lash out to grab the ship itself (atk 14)... and then a crit fail that can't seem to break through amara's bubble of air. it at least means that he's not gonna try to EAT THE SHIP this round.

with his other two tentacles, he slaps at amara (atk 19, dmg 10), the visceral hit expelling a trail of fluid. she passes her fort save vs the horrifying effects that come from getting hit with it at least. (unsure) its other tentacle lashes out at hook (atk 28, dmg 10), the force of the blow practically lifting hook off his feet for a moment. he also has to make a fort save...

and EVERYONE must make another fort save, every single round on their turn as its cloud of mucous penetrates through the air bubble... ]

Have you run into one before? [ She's surprised by Hook's knowledge—Emma might recognize the name from her perusal of magical texts in the hunt for answers to Amara's curse, but he seems to be. weirdly on top of this sea monster. Also, fort save 18!

As the beast advances on them, Emma raises her hands. Sparks crackle in her palms as she concentrates, flinging crackling bolts of electricity forward in a line straight at the tentacled creature (lightning bolt! 23 dmg, ref 16 for half). ]

[ lila shudders at the sight of fucking tentacles (why tho?), faltering in a desperate desire to protect emma and amara at once. she ain't here for the rest of y'all, no offense. sweeping her hand out with a quick burst of words, she casts haste which will last for six rounds, hoping to give them an edge against the beast.

her fort save was an 8, i'm sure that's perfectly adequate. ]

No, but I know the legends. [He's a pirate okay. Sea monsters are what he does. He gasps in horror as he gets tentacle slapped but he's just... really, really opposed to these things apparently (fort NAT 20). And fort save 14 action point says 24.]

Try and avoid getting hit if you enjoy breathing air rather than water! [Since lol no one had figured that one out yet. Not get hit! Crazy plan. He grabs the wheel again and attempts to wrest his ship out of the monsters' grasp (pilot 15).]

[ with a 17 reflex save, the creature manages to swim backward from the majority of emma's attack. hook struggles hard to pull the boat from the creature's grip but to no avail.

zatanna raises a hand, announcing in a booming voice: ] Sisylarap!

[ the creature freezes in place, its tentacles still tightened around the ship, but it's paralyzed in place for five rounds!

unfortunately, zee also failed her fort save. in fact, only hook and amara have made theirs so far. (DC 20) which means that as the others finish their actions this round, they'll find themselves abruptly gasping for breath, suffocating on the very air around them. ]

[ a blue-white ray of freezing ice springs from amara's hand, shooting through the water like an icicle, that pierces straight through the open maw of the creature, driving through its flesh and lodging there (atk 30, 76 dmg). since it's paralyzed, it's impossible to tell whether that killed it, knocked it unconscious, or neither... ]

[David makes his fort save (fort save 23) so for now he can still keep breathing, and thanks to Lila's haste spell he's moving double time. He loads the canon as quickly as he can and fires on the paralyzed creature (ranged attack 18, damage 31 with penetration damage if it hits).]

[ it does hit, but doesn't seem to pierce the creature's thick rubbery hide ;; stupid natural armor.

meanwhile the aboleth is paralyzed and/or unconscious and/or dead???? so it's not going this round lmao ]

[ Emma's failed fort save catches up with her, and she's left wheezing and gaping like a fish. It's not going so well for her either, and she hits her knees as she can't manage to hold her breath, hands grabbing at her throat on reflex (con 4). This is not going well. ]

[ lila is not much better off, clawing at her throat as her eyes go wide. she struggles to spit out what is happening, but the words are seized up in her mouth with no air to push them out. as spots dance in front of her eyes and a roaring fills her ears, she collapses against the deck, conscious but disabled, still ineffectually trying to will herself to breathe air again. (con crit fail) ]

Emma! Lila! [He can't run to both his wife and his daughter, as desperately as he wants to, but he still pulls out his excalibur and aims at the beast, risking taking his concentration off killing it for the moment in favor of killing the fucker. (atk 17, atk 9 come on Hook get your shit together) and his fort save this round was a 10 so ahahaha that's gonna be fun.

He turns to Zatanna and Amara and gestures wildly at Emma and Lila.]

Help them.

[They have magic. There has to be something they can do, right? He doesn't care what happens to him, so long as they're okay.]

[ while zee's hands move to her throat as she starts to choke, amara, who got another nat 20 lmao turns, stares up at the giant beast...

and then shrinks her air bubble.

water rushes in, pouring onto the deck. she must have enough of it covered still to keep the pressure from fully crushing the ship but it's still starting to sink rapidly, and they're all hit by a rush of water that threatens to bowl them over.

anyone who had previously been suffocating, however?

finds they can breathe the water as readily as a fish now. just hope you can swim. ]

[Goddamnit Amara.

David, who was fine previously, now has four rounds of air to work with so he's trying to make the best of it. While the rush of water bowls him over (reflex save 7 action point says 16) he gets one hand on the canon to hold him steady so he doesn't float away. He does, however, still make his fort save (fort save 27) so he'll just keep holding his breath while he loads the canon and fires at it again but it's not going to hit (attack 11).]

Emma catches her breath—or ... water, as it were—and lets go of her throat, looking around wildly like ? ? ? How am I breathing underwater ? ? ? But she just accepts it because it's convenient for now, and raises her gun to fire because if the cannon is working then surely her gun must too, right? Not gonna try a lightning spell. Not that dumb.

Anyway, thanks to haste, she gets three shots off (atk 28, atk 17, atk 28; penetration dmg 13, dmg 7, dmg 5 respectively). ]

[ once she can breathe again, lila struggles to her feet, holding on to the edge of the boat for dear life, too weak to manage literally anything else. the strain just to stand clearly evident on her pale features, effort etched into every anxious line on her face. ]

[Emma and Lila are all right... for now. Killian can breathe in relief. And at all, which is nice, though this isn't a good longterm plan. Kill the monster, worry about everything else later. He raises his pistol again and shoots at it (atk 26 dmg 7, atk crit fail NOT TODAY ACTION POINT SAYS 24 dmg 7, and thanks to haste atk 20 dmg 14 with penetration).]

[ the barrage of bullets causes black blood to leak from the creature, whose eyes roll up, despite its paralysis, signalling that it's finally dead. zee gasps in, as amara waves her hand and casts water breathing on those who couldn't already breathe it, looking at you david.

for the sake of things, we'll say they can talk all burbly to each other, although it won't be easy to understand.

David takes a shaky, relieved breath, but nods in agreement. They should definitely keep moving. He glances over the rest of the group for a moment, before noticing Lila and frowning in concern.]

Are you okay?

[ she waves her hand dismissively, she's clearly fine, david, god. jk she's not okay at all, but she's not going to admit that either. #teenagers. nor is she going to move from her place curled against the side of the boat. mostly because she doesn't think she can. ]

[ At David's question, Emma tosses her head back to look at Lila, concern evident. When the girl affirms, she senses the concern is unwelcome and instead turns her attention on Hook, pacing across the deck to him. Raising her hands to his shoulders, she briefly checks him over, worry all in her eyes as she instead focuses on the task to ask, ] Can you get us moving?

[Killian's still looking over at Lila, worry in his eyes, until Emma comes over. He lets her check him over, a flutter in his chest, as he checks her out as well. But moving is the most important thing right now, if they want to make sure they continue to be all right. He covers her hand with his own for a moment, then nods.]

I've never sailed her under the sea before, but she's yet to fail me. [He grabs the wheel and takes control, squinting at the city in front of them. And with a nat 20 pilot check (28 total) APPARENTLY HE'S GOT THIS DOWN.]

[David will just nod as his concern is brushed off - he won't force her if she doesn't want his help, and will return his attention to the sea around them, trying to see if he can spot anything else that might be coming at them - like, perhaps, another one of those beasts (spot 19).]
