It's that time again. New squires (and new knights who might have missed it in the hubbub) would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Monday -- which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

Vi -- or Sir Reedhym if you're feeling like making her feel old -- is running the orientation today with a special guest of surly Sir David Levin who is being his normal strong and silent type off to the side but the wall of weapons. Sir Wellington is also in attendance, being Lan. Lanning about, as he do. The small knight toting a very teeny week old infant in a sling rounds everyone up in the center of the room to start this shit off with a loud whistle and a very cheerful, "Okay, all y'all shut up!"

Some of the squires' mentor Knights will have accompanied them - others will have left them to their own devices. Everyone's welcome to tag into threads or make their own!

What would you suggest? [Clark doesn't really... do weapons. ~~The hammer is his penis~~ But he'll give it a try at least once. It seems to be the thing that people here do.]

Depends on how ye fight. What have you used before? If anything.

[He shakes his head.]

I've always been more hand to hand, I guess.

Nothin' wrong with that. But what do you do when someone comes at you with a blade in hand?

Like a knife? I usually just try to get them to drop it. [Or just... let them try to stab through skin of steel tbh.]

We can teach you to how to make sure that happens every time, then.

I'd like that. And I might-- I wouldn't mind some training on how to make sure I don't hurt someone too badly. [He worries about these things- especially if he's going to be honing his skills. He should work on that one too.]

Is that something ye struggle with, boy?

[He just nods, glancing away, a little ashamed. He's got a handle on things more often than not, but even those few times are too many, in his opinion.]

[ lan considers him for a second, before seeming to come to terms with something, and nods once ] Then we can help ye learn some control.

Great. I appreciate it. Should I... come find you down here, or is there someone else?

More often you'll find Sir Ironsides. He runs the sect now.

Is he here? I should maybe introduce myself? [polite farmboy is polite]

Ay, you'll find him over there, making sure that axe of his stays sharp. [ he nods towards the dwarf in question ]

[He looks and spots him.] Hey, thanks. I'll just got introduce myself then.

[Annnnnd he heads over to do just that.]

Sir Dovan?

Aye? [ dovan turns, lowering the axe he was swinging ] Why hello there! Here's a strapping young man.

I, uh- thanks. I was told you might be the one to talk to about training?

That would be me. What kind of training in particular, boy?

Uh, I'm actually... [He laughs nervously and sort of glances around to make sure no one is listening.] Trying to learn how to hold back.

[ that draws a laugh from him ] Too strong for your own good, eh?

You could say that. I've tried to keep it in check on my own, but I figured while I'm here...

Well, we can certainly show you how to pull your punches, if that's your concern!

I'd like that, yeah. Just in case.

Don't you worry, lad. We won't let you put a hole in anyone you don't want one in.

[He lets out a long breath, like a sigh of relief.]

Thanks. I'll uh- I'll come by sometime soon and we can talk about it some more.
