It's that time again. New squires (and new knights who might have missed it in the hubbub) would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Monday -- which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

Vi -- or Sir Reedhym if you're feeling like making her feel old -- is running the orientation today with a special guest of surly Sir David Levin who is being his normal strong and silent type off to the side but the wall of weapons. Sir Wellington is also in attendance, being Lan. Lanning about, as he do. The small knight toting a very teeny week old infant in a sling rounds everyone up in the center of the room to start this shit off with a loud whistle and a very cheerful, "Okay, all y'all shut up!"

Some of the squires' mentor Knights will have accompanied them - others will have left them to their own devices. Everyone's welcome to tag into threads or make their own!

I've used a cutlass on occasion. Perhaps one of those to learn with, yes?

We've a few on hand. [ he'll go to fetch one, which stat-wise does a d8 of damage, and crits on a 19-20! ] Let's see what you can do.

[since it's not a simple weapon, and he's not used it regularly, he managed to swing it around without hurting anyone or himself (atk 9). But he obviously needs to learn it more to gain proficiency in it]

I am afraid not much.

Why don't we start with how to grip it properly? [ he'll grab one of his own, show him the grip, and swing it with ease (atk 21, but just at... the air) ]

[he stands back to watch, and then nods]

Impressive.

[he watched, and then adjusted his grip and slowly swung at the air as well (atk 8). Yup, maybe a bit too slow because so sloppy]

Looks like we'll be seein' plenty of ye here in the training room.

Looks like it. [he chuckled, because the old man was making a joke, right?]

That's where we're here for. You'll be responsible for dragging yourself here, if you want to make the most of it.

Seeing that I am staying here, I'm sure that will not be as much of a problem as you think.

You'd be surprised how many people around here think to slack. Until they go out in the field and almost get their heads chopped off.

A fate I would prefer to avoid. You are here most days? Perhaps twice a week for an hour if you have the time to spare?

Aye, I can manage that. And when I can't, Sir Ironsides can take over. He's the head of the Hide now, trains many recruits.

I don't believe I have met the knight you speak of yet.

Then it must be time. Oy, Dovan! [ he yells across the room, and a ginger headed dwarf looks up over there from where he's swinging an axe at a dummy ] Go on. Introduce yerself.

[nodding, Baal walked over to the dwarf, and then giving a small bow in respect]

I was told to come introduce myself to you since you would be also helping train when I would come here. I am Baal.

[ironsides]

[ the dwarf straightens up, hefting the axe to lean against his shoulder as he looks him over, eyes twinkling cheerfully. ] Baal, was it? Dovan Ironsides, at your service!

That is it. And I am looking forward to learning what you can teach me. I have only ever worked firearms, so I don't know most any of these.

Ohhh, well then you have come to the right place. I've taught many a soul how to swing a blade in my time.
