It's that time again. New squires (and new knights who might have missed it in the hubbub) would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Monday -- which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

Vi -- or Sir Reedhym if you're feeling like making her feel old -- is running the orientation today with a special guest of surly Sir David Levin who is being his normal strong and silent type off to the side but the wall of weapons. Sir Wellington is also in attendance, being Lan. Lanning about, as he do. The small knight toting a very teeny week old infant in a sling rounds everyone up in the center of the room to start this shit off with a loud whistle and a very cheerful, "Okay, all y'all shut up!"

Some of the squires' mentor Knights will have accompanied them - others will have left them to their own devices. Everyone's welcome to tag into threads or make their own!

[ Doyle stopped and took the advice, moving his grip to be a bit more balanced.]

I'm more used t' a baseball bat. [ He admitted.]

[He pauses, considering for a moment, before he holds out his hand for Doyle's staff.]

Then maybe we should try something else.

ALright.

[ He held it back out to him, a bit confused but figuring maybe this would be better.]

[And he'll take the staff back before making his way back out with a small club instead.]

Not quite a baseball bat, but should do the trick?

[ When he took it, Doyle tested the weight and nodded a bit. It wasn't too bad.]

Yeah, man. I this'll do.

Okay. Then let's try it again.

[He'll keep the staff for himself, but hopefully this is a weapon Doyle is a little more comfortable with.]

[ He nodded taking a moment to get his grip right this time he charged and swung with a lot more confidence. (Atk 20) ]

[Which hits! David takes the hit on his shoulder, with a grin.]

Good!

[But now that Doyle's hit him, he's going to start hitting back, coming towards him with the staff (attack 16, 21).]

[ He got quite the grin for a split second, he managed to block one with a bit of speed he had lacked before, but the second hit got him and he flinched but didn't back away.]

Now you're going to want to try and attack your opponent while they're recovering, rather than waiting for them to get away from you. So when I come at you again, try to get the next attack in before I can pull back.

[Which he will do! He brings the staff around and swings at him again (attack 19, 8).]

[ That made sense, he did something stupid, taking the hit and boy did it hurt. But he used that chance to swing the club back at David just as the hit took. (Atk 19, 5)

[The 19 hits, and David grins as he nods his approval.]

Good!

[He then ducks low to dodge the second and sweeps the staff with him, trying to catch the other man by the legs (attack 15).]

[ Opps, crit fail, down Doyle goes with a nice thud, but he didn't let it get to him he's already trying to get back to his feet in a scramble.]

[David straightens a bit, reaching for his hand to help him up.]

Here, let me give you a hand.

[ Doyle takes his hand and lets him help.]

Thanks, man.

[He pulls him up with a nod (strength 18), before giving him a small smile.]

Not bad. You just have to remember to keep your balance. Come in too fast and it can give your opponent an opening you don't want to give them.

I'll keep that in mind, man. Thanks.

[ He nodded, and actually smiled back, cause damn, that dude is strong too. He stepped back again and shifted the club between hands.]

Once more?

[David nods in agreement and steadying himself, waiting for Doyle to come at him first.]

Sure.

[ And Doyle did come, he moved fast again and swung, ready to shift back once he swung out. (Dex 14, atk 18, 13)

[They both miss, but the first blow just glances him while he blocks the second with his staff, before he comes at him with two of his own (attack 9, 21).]

[ He managed to dodge the first but took the second. He didn't fall this time he just shifted the club and swung through the pain. (atk 19) ]

[Which hits, catching him on the shoulder. He braces against the blow before swinging around again (attack 21, 17).]

[ This time when the hit lands on Doyle he couldn't help the noise of pain that escaped, as his skin shifted to green and the spikes came out... opps. Pain was sometimes a trigger. He backed away turning his back on David, cause he hates people to see that.]

[David is surprised, sure, but he doesn't flinch. It's more like he frowns and tips his head to the side.]

You okay?

[ He took a breath, his skin seemed to return to normal just as fast as it had changed.]

Yeah, I'm good. Don't worry 'bout that. I think I'm done for the day though, thanks for the help man.
