The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[and thus did pandora's box close on topher's fingers. he drops his hand.] Yeah, well... Getting published in medical journals doesn't really require you follow a strict dress code.

[that's the least of what he's done with his genius, but he doesn't wanna talk about THE OTHER THINGS. not at a party, anyway. that's the sort of thing that makes people give you a wide berth. right up there with lobotomies.]

Neuroscience. [his pride does not believe in once-bitten, twice shy. if anything, it believes in once bitten, BRAG HARDER] Mostly theoretical. I don't wanna brag, but... Nah, I totally wanna brag. I've kinda opened a lot of doors in the field.

[they are mostly unethical doors, BUT THE SCIENCE IS SOUND, OKAY.]

Really? [alex is unusually interested for his research being something that isn't ... space or dinosaurs or smth.] Huh. You ever work with psions?

I want to. [His excitement is palpable. This is sort of his Thing that he hasn't gotten anywhere with, because Pegasus pushed his talents an entirely different way.] Are you kidding me? We're talking an entirely brain-based ability that still goes poof when the Veil closes. Where does it come from? Can we make it stay? Can we... actually effectively ward people against it without... having to rely on hippie meditation and all that "strengthening your mind" baloney.

[o-oh. topher's eyes go as wide as saucers. whether it's because alex is touching him or because a psion is right all up his cheerios remains to be seen.] ...Really?

Mmmmhm. [grin. he's so pleased. maybe he'll seduce topher with his brain. /rolls my eyes.] Wanna see?

I don't fuckin' care, nobody's gonna notice. [he rearranges his arm around topher so that he's touching the back of his neck, and then ... turns his sensation of touch off for a few seconds. (concentration 26) he was thinking about making him orgasm but didn't trust topher not to make a scene in the end. :( ]

[he has never had an orgasm in his life so yes. it would be a scene. nobody wants that.]

Did it do any- Oh God, what the hell? [by the time he notices, the sensation's already fading, but it's enough to thoroughly freak him out in a good way.]

I can manipulate the human body, basically. Or, bodies in general, I suppose.

That is amazing. Do you know how much more efficient and safer medical procedures would be without, like, the hassle of anesthesia? You could keep someone from going into shock or... or I don't know. The practical applications of that are like... [he exhales sharply, eyes wide, as he just... imagines it.]

[he gives topher a small clap on the back like oh friend.] Yeah, you see, the only problem with that is that there's a problem with me. I burn out really easily. Most of the time it's just migraines and nosebleeds, but sometimes it's seizures. Doctors don't want to help me. They just tell me not to use it. Which is bullshit.

Um. That's like telling a scientist not to play with uranium because it might kill them. [Topher waves his hands like But??? Science???] I've never heard of anyone with psionic abilities having those kind of neurological side effects.

[your nose bleeds and seizures are fascinating...]

Right? [one of his shoulders rolls in a shrug.] I've heard of people getting negative feedback like that if they push themselves too hard, but ... it happens to me over pretty much anything. No matter how little or how much I'm exerting.

I could... Possibly look into that for you. Maybe figure out what the dysfunction is?
