The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[As though Malina needed something else to make her feel miniature. Still, it's not every day that they get a tree to be a knight, so naturally she will make her way over curiously.]

[He seems particularly exuberant. Clearly he isn't invited to these kinds of parties very often.]

[Clearly not, but that doesn't mean his exuberance isn't catching (sense motive 14). Even if Malina can't tell exactly what he's saying, she can sense that he's happy to be here.]

I'm Malina. It's nice to meet you.

[He gives her a simple nod of his head, reaching a hand out to shake it, since that's what everyone seems to do around here for greeting.]

[She grins widely at that, before reaching over to shake his hand.]

Not bad. You've got more manners than some of the other knights here.

[The handshake is probably a little rough, given the nature of being...covered in bark.]

[Rough is better than slime. Plus, how often do you get to say you shook hands with a tree?]

A friend of mine is going to get such a kick out of you. He's a druid, so he communes with nature all the time - it's probably not often he actually gets to talk to it.

[If anyone can maybe know what Groot is saying other than Rocket and Vi, it would probably be a druid.

He looks pleased by her words.]

[She manages to pick up on the pleased, though not as well as she could. She, unfortunately, is not a druid. She doesn't speak tree at all.]

I'm sure you'll run into him around here somewhere, if not outside. He's the guy with the bear.

[And Groot will just make...a growling noise. Like a bear. And then nod his head.

He'll keep an eye out for him.]

[She got that much, and she grins at his bear imitation.]

Good. And you should have fun. Make sure you enjoy your party.

[Groot nods happily, slapping a hand against his chest a time or two.

Then he looks around at all the other people dancing, some in pairs, and he eventually looks back at her, holding out a hand.]

I am Groot.

[Clint's been eager to speak to this guy ever since he saw his...enthusiastic oath during the squiring ceremony. He walks over, waving at Groot to get his attention.] Hey there big guy! Unless you're looking for a really bad pun, I'd stay away from the peppermint bark over there. How's the party so far?

[Though he is not a particularly good dancer in this large form (perform dance 8), he doesn't seem to give a damn as he stops his foot to the beat of the song playing.]

[Clint appreciates the enthusiasm of the tree man before him, and can't help but smile.] So I heard, you were quite excited at the ceremony! Now, I gotta ask, just so I can add you to my Things To Get Used To List: Are you a person in a tree suit, or a tree that wears armor?

I am Groot.

[Though he seems to understand that that's not going to be enough, and he holds out a hand. Several vines start to sprout in his palm, each growing several leaves along their lengths.

Hopefully that's enough to answer his question.]

[Clint actually looks relieved?] Whew, ok, cool, so I can just mentally file you under Magical Stuff That I Don't Get Yet and go from there. Honestly, I would have had a lot more questions if you HAD been a person in a tree suit. Trust me, those guys are weird. [He shakes his head, some things are best not remembered, or retold.]

[He just shrugs his large shoulders a bit. He's not what he would consider magical, though perhaps in the terms of what the creatures of this planet understands, that would be the closest comparison.

He beats a fist against his chest, to indicate he's proud of what he is.]

[Clint is starting to notice that Mr. Groot has a rather limited vocabulary. He decides to test this with puns, of course, because that's how you get the best reactions.]

You're kind of a one trick peony when it comes to words, aren't you? Can you really only say [Obligatory exaggerated deep voice] "I am Groot?"

[Groot just gives him a sympathetic look and...shrugs his shoulders.]

[Clint has an idea. Somewhere, Natasha feels a chill run down her spine.] Ok, so, one more question. Can you think in other words besides those? You seem like a classy gentletree, so you've got the smarts to do that, yeah?

[Groot gives him a nod before he taps the side of his neck.]

I am Groot.

[Clint grins, not an evil grin mind you, but a genuine smile of "Oh yeah, have i got a treat for you."] So, Mr Groot. I don't know where you come from, but have you ever heard of [Clint proceeds to make some meaningful gestures.] American Sign Language?

[Fun fact: At one point in the comics, Hawkeye nearly went deaf, and required hearing aids. The story behind it is really cool!]
