after-party ♔ september

Jeux d'eau - Ravel

WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions (if you are uncertain if your character would be at the castle for this, ask!)
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || September 1st, 2015, 6:00PM [backdated]
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam

The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Not all the time, but when the need arises, we step up.

[Putting Mark back in the throne had been the right thing to do, and he seems to be doing well with it so far. Unfortunately she bombed her wisdom check to see if she would figure out how he's curing mental illnesses (wisdom 5).]

How do you cure mental illnesses?

[Those tend to be more of a maintenance thing, aren't they?]

It's not really a sound science- it's all theoretical, at this point, but I have a very specific process that gets down to the whole nitty gritty of how the brain works and... I'm sure... one day I'll actually be able to hack it.

[Hack. Hahaha. Get it. 'Cause he's a brain hacker. ahaha. okay we have fun.]
bredinthebone: (sideshow prince)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-10-14 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods slowly, tipping her head to the side.]

Interesting. I guess. I'm not really a science person.
andblockbuster: (Who in God's green Smurf are you?)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2015-10-21 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
So you're a... [he looks her over] ...espionage person? Fighter person? It's, like, really hard to tell, okay. There's girls shorter than me who are, like, swinging swords bigger than my torso around. It's great. [he laughs nervously and it peters off as he swallows hard.] Also terrifying.
bredinthebone: (but my best wouldn't save her)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-10-22 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[She smirks a bit at that before shaking her head.]

Magic person. I'm in the Dragon's Fire.
andblockbuster: (Warning: Apple pies are hot.)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2015-10-22 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh. [said in the way someone might finish the sentence with "oh you poor lamb."] Well, at least the Veil's still opened. Good time for magic-users these days.
bredinthebone: (Default)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-10-23 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[She raises an eyebrow at that, because that sure is an interesting tone.]

You got a problem with magic users?
andblockbuster: (That's a cute way of saying he's broke)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2015-10-25 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No! I mean, not a problem... It's just trying to grok the whole mystical part of it that gets me. Psionics are easier to pin down for me- that's all brain stuff. The crazy part is that it goes when the Veil closes too. Why? Science hasn't figured it out yet.
bredinthebone: (Default)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-10-25 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her eyebrows go up at that.]

So if science can't explain it, it doesn't really fit in your world view?

[She shrugs.]

I don't really know for sure. I just know that it's something I can do - something I could always do. It runs in my blood. There has to be some science in that.
andblockbuster: (I brought you back with a spell card.)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2015-10-26 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Not... in so many words. [he circles his hands vaguely.] And yeah, okay- there's that, but there's people who have no family history of it just being able to pick up spellbooks like whoosh. And there's a line between the different classes of arcane magic-users... and then you get the whole divine magic-users thing, and it's just a whole lot of whaaat.

I just wanna crack the code.
bredinthebone: (my mama was a one night stand)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-10-26 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, with divine magic it's more like you're being given a gift. It's not quite the same as having divinity in your blood, but it's the same general concept. Understanding divine blessings means understanding the power of faith - and that I'm sure science would have a hard time quantifying.

[She was raised by a religious mother and her mentor was Joan of Arc. Malina has a very strong opinion on the power of faith, and it's ability to be a real thing.]
andblockbuster: (Is that Kansas skank gone?)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2015-10-26 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not really big on the whole... god thing. I realize they have to exist, but it's still sort of... out there.

[he shrugs helplessly.] Putting that much faith in something like that seems like a huge gamble to me.
bredinthebone: (they say little girls are)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-10-27 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her eyebrows go up a bit at that, because yeah, it's a gamble, but at the same time.]

You put that much faith in science. It helps you see the world in a way that makes sense, and gives you something to aspire to in the place of staying as you are. Instead of being content with the world as it is, you want to use the power of your faith and love of science to change it for the better.

[She shrugs.]

It's the same for clerics and paladins. It may not be as tangible as your faith, but it gives them the power to believe that through their faith, they have the tools to make the world a better place, through the ability to heal someone in need or destroy something evil. Their faith gives them power and through that power, they make the world better.
andblockbuster: (Warning: Apple pies are hot.)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2015-10-27 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[Topher listens to her talk in the... horribly condescending manner of someone who is just sitting there thinking "aww."]

It's just that science isn't going to abandon me to my own devices when some mystical curtain just closes one day.
bredinthebone: (they say little girls should)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-10-28 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[She gives a small shrug.]

You never know. Maybe the next time the Veil closes it sets off some kind of chain reaction and everything you know about science gets completely turned on it's head.

[Her head tips to the side.]

You'll have to start back at square one, figuring things out all over again.

[there's also more to faith than that - if you lose your faith when things get rough then Malina's of the opinion that your faith wasn't all that real to begin with.]
andblockbuster: (I'll tell Seth Green's story.)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2015-11-02 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[he raises his eyebrows at her.] Yeah, and maybe modern society will collapse and mechanical parts and electricity will inexplicably stop working and we'll all fall back to the Dark Ages.
bredinthebone: (if you please)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-11-03 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[And then Malina squints at him.]

Aren't atoms and all that all about magnetic fields? What if when the Veil closes the next time it screws with those fields somehow and all the machines go ka-boom?

[It's not, that far fetched, at least with her limited science experience (knowledge science 18).]
andblockbuster: (I like rock paper scissors two-thirds.)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2015-11-10 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
And if that happens, then I'll concede my point, and become a bard. And I will sing your tale of how you proved the poor science guy wrong, and mourn the loss of scientific advancement.

bredinthebone: (all sugar and sunshine)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-11-11 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[She smirks at his response before nodding, her tone teasing.]

I'm going to hold you to that. I love a good musical number.
bredinthebone: (well my daddy was a carnie)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-11-11 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ... Please wear pants when you sign her praises, Topher.]

I can see it already. I think it'd be a good look for you.
andblockbuster: (Luckily I can pilot a helicopter.)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2015-11-11 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll actually be terrible, and you'll regret this conversation happened, but that's a problem for future.... you.
bredinthebone: (king of the midway)

[personal profile] bredinthebone 2015-11-13 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[She laughs.]

We'll see. I think Future Me will probably be more impressed if you actually follow through.
andblockbuster: (Tarzan love Jane.)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2015-11-13 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I always follow through. [beams] So... Good talk. I'm gonna go investigate the snack table.
bredinthebone: (Default)

You do that.

[And she will wander off to continue being social. See you later, Topher. /scene]
