The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[With her head canted to one side, she continues to hang on his every word. As if the story of his family truly was important to her. There is a flash of understanding in her unnaturally blue eyes, followed briefly by a touch of sadness.]

It sounds like you and I have more in common than we first thought. [Though she immediately suspects that his story, has a much happier ending.] You did not wish to stay with them in this... Leira?

[Her smile warm as she squeezes his hands.] Though perhaps I might not speak for all, I would still say that the Knights of the Silver Dragon are very lucky to have you.

[ He kept his smile in place and nodded softly, not quite grasping the sadness he could see, he kept smiling in hopes of returning her happiness though his own.]

Oh? Really? [ He asked, curious of that.] Its more complicated than not wishing to stay, I love Leira, I do, but i was becoming stir-crazy. I was stuck in the same thing day in day out. I was restless, I plan to visit as much as I can, and keep in contact, but for now I needed to leave before I started to hate the isolation. [ He explained.] Can I ask about your family?

Thank you, and you as well. You are clearly a bright light. [ He squeezed her hand in return.]

[While she does her best to remain bright, perhaps her choice of word more than the way she says them will suggest that it's not an easy subject for her.]

Much like you, I had people I came to think of as family. As much a mother and father to me as I imagine my true parents must have been. [Now the light does fade from her eyes, the smile she has worn with him tightening.] Had it been my choice, I would have stayed there with them for many years to come, however...

[It's difficult for her to say a bad word about anyone, Ava one who has oftentimes blamed herself and not the people for what came to pass.]

You shall find in this world that while there are many, wonderful people. There are some that fear that which is different. [Swallowing hard.] Fear I find... makes some people behave in ways they otherwise, would not.

Yes, fear drives the worst in people, this I know. [ He replied looking at her.] You have been hurt...

[ He spoke as he watched the way her face change even in the subtle way. He didn't want to see her in pain, he didn't really know her and yet it hurt to see such a bright woman looking sad.]

You don't have to tell me any more. Whatever happened must have been terrible.

Not - [Lips pressing together.] Physically. Nothing quite of that nature...

[What she's not saying however is that their intent had been just that. Had it not been for the couple she considered to be family, things would have turned out quite differently.]

It could have been much worse and for that I must be grateful. [Trying to muster up more of a smile as she squeezes his hands in her own.] And this is my home now and should I have not come here, I fear we shall never have met. [As if that alone made everything she went through seem worthwhile.]

[ He nodded as he listened, it was rather upsetting to hear someone had tried to hurt someone who seemed as pure as she seemed with just their first meeting. ]

I am glad you have come then, I will likely cherish this day always if not just for a new start, but a new friendship with you, Ava.

[With just a handful of kind words and sincerity, Deryn appears to erase any sadness that talking of her past might have brought on. Ava's whole face brightens, the tension slipping away just as easily as it came and that sparkle that had been in her unnaturally blue eyes has once again, returned.]

You are far too kind to say so, but I thank you for it. [Brightening even more.] Perhaps, when you wish to discover the Castle grounds, I may be of service to you as a guide? There is much to see here. Beyond the walls of the Castle itself I mean.

You are very welcome. Though you are the one that is kind. I can tell already you are far too kind. I've never met someone like you, and you shouldn't ever have to be sad.

[ He spoke it from his heart. One of the feathers seemed to come loose and slipped from his hair floating down towards the floor. Sometimes he leaves a trail. I would like that a lot, I've looked around a little but I keep finding myself lost and just watching others until I find my way back. A guide would be helpful.

[Her pale cheeks take on a rosy color at the compliment, Ava struggling to keep the brightness of her smile from filling her face as his words send a warmth through her chest.]

I like to think of my sadness as a reason to truly celebrate every moment which is not. [Sincere in that, as if she could find the good in every awful moment.

While he may be content to allow the feather to fall, Ava cannot see him lose such a gift as the one his raven had bestowed upon him, dropping one hand from his as she crouches to retrieve it, offering it back.] Perhaps I might even be able to offer you an introduction to new feathered friends. The woods here are full of new acquaintances just ready to be made.

The sorrow does make the sweet ever sweeter. [ He agreed with her, letting go of her hand when she crouched to get the feather, the other staying with hers it was his turn to blush and as pale as he is its very clear he's blushing.] Thank you, Ava.

[ He finally let go of her hands completely to take the feather, one hand run under his hair softly finding the empty clip he used both hands to slip the feather and clip back into place. ] They come loose sometimes. ANd yes, I would love that, I look forward to it.
