The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Bonnie smiles back and takes her hand.] A pleasure, Sir D'Arc. I have been many things over the course of my lifetime, but never a knight. It should be an interesting new experience.

[Even if she's kind of hoping to spend most of it in the lab. Hey, there are some bright sides to not having a kingdom to run.]

[ her eyebrows lift somewhat expectantly. "in my lifetime" is usually jeanne's line. ]

What things have you tried before?

Princess and scientist, mostly, but it's amazing how much goes into those particular roles. [Especially in her kingdom, perhaps.] How about you? How long have you been a knight?

It will be 392 years in... March. [ yup. ] It's easy for me to remember because it was the same year that England declared war on Spain.

[monosaccharide]

[That's not quite half Bubblegum's age, but it's still surprising to hear. Bubblegum, after all, isn't human.] That's a lot longer than the average human lifespan, or even the upper limits of the human lifespan. Do you mind if I ask how you managed that?

Of course not. Unfortunately, I was not conscious for most of it, but as Nicholas tells it, it was an old ritual combined with his attempts at the world's first blood transfusion. [ the blood just happened to not be human, i'm sure it's nothing, i'm sure it's fine. men doing science, it's nbd. ]

Fascinating. [Bonnie's wondered about ways to make humans immortal. Sometimes it's hard, knowing you'll outlive most of your friends.] Is this Nicholas still alive as well? I'd love to see his notes....

Oh yes, he is. He and Perenelle still live in France. I don't think he's yet given into cell phones and email, he's very stubborn, but I'd be happy to write him a letter for you.

What kind of immortal doesn't evolve with the times? It's very short-sighted. Times change. That's a good thing. And way less boring than the alternative.

[She shakes her head.]

Regardless, that would be much appreciated.

Nicholas loves his books, the kindle came as a personal affront to his sensibilities, but Perenelle might have come around to it. It's been... quite a few years since we last spoke.

Perenelle would be... his spouse, then?

Yes. An alchemist in her own right, she usually left that to Nicholas, she preferred to support from the background. Many of the poor houses in Paris were financed by Perenelle.

[monosaccharide]

[Bonnie smiles, nodding at the description.] She sounds lovely.

Truly. They had no children of their own so she made all of Paris her charge.

[monosaccharide]

And how did they come to know you?

[arretez]

A mutual friend, Scáthach, took me to them after I had been sentenced to death. [ her hand lifts to idly touch the scar between her neck and shoulder, eyes clouding. ] If it weren't for Nicholas, I never would have survived, but he performed the world's first blood transfusion. It was part of a spell, misread and lost centuries ago, combined with the transfusion of Scáthach's vampire blood that inexplicably led to my immortality.

Well, congratulations. I'm sure there are downsides to immortality, but it's better than the alternative.

[Something Bonnie... knows personally, actually.]

Not always. I have tremendous faith in my God, I had been ready to meet him and my afterlife when Scáthach saved me. It took a long time to accept that I would not greet Heaven as I had been prepared for.

[Bonnie smiles tightly, and does not tell Jeanne that she would have been disappointed anyway since Heaven isn't real and Gods don't exist (will 25).]

That's... nice.

regardless of that, jeanne does look at bonnibel askance because... did you actually listen to anything she said? that's not actually nice. but okay. her head bobs in a slight nod. ]
