The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

The Knights have a much wilder version of shaking things up than I've previously encountered.

What did you do before you came to us?

Hacktivism. So the difference in excitement levels is really more a reflection on the Knighthood than my resumé.

You might have to define that one for me.

Hacking for social justice and civil equality.

I can't claim to understand much about hacking, but that certainly seems like the right reason to do it.

It sounds more glamorous than it is. Next to this place, I might as well have been one of those YouTube personalities.

I can't say I'm very familiar with any of them either, but I suppose that's the point.

What got you into that sort of work?

A one-pot recipe of homelessness, idealism, and desperation.

That sounds... terrible. How long were you--

[hacker]

Since around the time I dropped out of high school. Look— I mean, obviously it wasn't a rip-roaring good time, but it wasn't all ... I mean, it was a life. You get used to it, like anything else, and after a while, I had my van and my laptop and I was okay.

[layonhands]

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound judgmental. What matters is that you were happy with what you were doing.

I was. [ she nods, thoughtful, briefly growing distant with nostalgia and conflict. ] But ... I'm pretty sure I can do more for people from here.

Well, we're lucky to have you, then. This world seems more cut out for people who can actually keep pace with all this technology. The rest of us are just trying to keep our head above water.

Does that mean you're not from this world?

[layonhands]

[ she shakes her head ] I came from Faerun, years ago.

I didn't realize; seems like you've gotten really comfortable with the way things are here. What's the buffer time on that? My Shadow world was really similar to this one, so I never had much trouble.
