The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Alright. [ She sets food aside to empty her hands, more fit for dancing. ] I'll try.

[Bonnie holds out her hands, smiling encouragingly.] It's not so hard. You just listen to the music and move the way you feel like moving.

Are you sure that's all there is to it? [ this seems fake but ok. She takes Bonnie's hands all the same. ] What if I don't feel like moving?

Then you probably don't feel like dancing. But you can follow my lead if you want to.

[With a perform 18, it's a pretty good lead.]

[ with a 17, Rey is actually doing just fine. I guess body control transfers well. ]

I always thought there must be more to it than this.

There can be. There are some dances like swing or ballet that have specific steps and choreography, but you don't need all that stuff to dance. At its essence it's just about moving and having a good time. The rest can come later.

If that's the case, it hardly seems like something that can be taught.

Yeah, it's not rocket science. [A beat.] Which I could actually also teach you, but not as quickly.

[ Rey has it in her to look faintly amused. ]

I'm not sure that's true.

[ No one here seems to know more about her and Jaina and Han about rocket science since they have ... better rockets. ]

[Bonnie did... not get a high enough wisdom check to get what Rey is saying entirely. She frowns, though she doesn't stop dancing.]

I may not look like this era's idea of a scientist, but I assure you, my skills are unparalleled.

[Bonnie has been in this world just long enough to learn exactly how hard it is not being a straight white man in the scientific fields. It may have made her a bit defensive.]

I didn't know a scientist was supposed to look like anything.

[ Said with such a flat tone that it can't be anything but honest tbh. ]

I only mean that this galaxy is far behind the one I came from. I don't expect there's much about space that anyone here could teach me.

I didn't either. [She smiles tightly, eyes widening.] And yet, it turns out that the lead minds here have a very specific idea of what a scientist should look like and pink isn't in the description.

That's fascinating. You're from the future, then?

Not really. I've heard of a great many planets, but Earth isn't on any star map I've seen. I don't know about the future, but I'm quite sure I lived in a different galaxy. [ She shakes her head. ] But that's absurd. What do looks have to do with how much you know about science?

[monosaccharide]

Ah, see, I am from Earth. But it's definitely the future.

[There are a lot of hints, if you know where to look. The shape of the planet, for one. Lack of radioactive waste in inconvenient places.

She shakes her head, smiling slightly. Rey's naivety is actually pretty refreshing.]

Absolutely nothing. But some people will take any excuse to try and cut a person down. Or make one up if they can't find a legit one.

Sounds like they have too much time on their hands. [ Seriously Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs has never been more real. Who has time to shit on female scientists when you're trying to scavenge enough to eat /?? ]
