The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

That's a good way of putting it, yeah. Or our specializations don't really fit in to the rest of the sects. Like there isn't really a sect for detectives or investigators, which is why I decided to freelance.

[She pauses before shaking her head.]

Not necessarily. They're more ... negotiators and diplomats. Or at least that's the impression I had in working with them.

I suppose I don't see much difference between negotiating and interviewing while you're trying to learn the truth. That's what detectives do, isn't it? Encourage people to give them answers.

That is true. But I guess it's more a matter of ... politics. I'm not very good at playing them. I'm good at getting to the truth. I preferred to be in a sect where my ability to persuade is not expected to be my best skill set.

So you're a blunt instrument, and you fear they'd ask you to be more finely tuned. [ Rey nods as though she can understand that. Admittedly, no one's really expected anything of Rey—one of the few perks of isolation—but being a blunt instrument? Certainly. ]

[She gives a small shrug, then nods.]

I can be subtle when I need to be, but I'm not really someone who's good at making trades. I hunt, I don't bargain.

[ The statement paints Kate as a predator, and that's something Rey can recognize and connect to. She nods, returning it with an admission of her own. ] I prefer not dealing with people at all, to be entirely honest.

[She smiles a bit at that before nodding.]

I can understand that. I will say that while there are a lot of people around? It won't be as overwhelming as all of this.

[And she turns and gestures to the room around her.]

If you're a private person, you can still find that privacy when you need it.

[ Recognizing that Kate is trying to reassure her, Rey feels a smile work its way onto her lips as she nods her understanding. It's a difficult paradox to explain, that she doesn't want to bother with the complexity of people in the way the Dragon's Tongue might, but that Jakku has left her tired of being alone, and that the constant feeling of bustle—while distracting, and at times difficult to focus through—comforts her in a way that she's not familiar with. The Resistance base on D'Qar had been the same, for the short time she was there. ]

I'll bear that in mind.
