I was really more an Ali-ens kinda girl. They mostly come at night... mostly.

[Though... she sounds more like Cartman from South Park than Scout as she says that.]

Yeah. With or without the buckets of pigs blood. Even Courtney Love can't pull that off and she's been desperately trying to rock the Trailer Park chic look for a while now.

[Are you ready for some backwards ass Kenzi logic, Mars?] Technically, my previous experience in all things careless? Would suggest that I'm not the one you need to worry about.

But, in space no one can hear you scream. [ he teased half heartedly.] I never cared much for Aliens.

[ He was sensing some Cartman there, but like hell he'd admit he likes South Park.]

Courtney Love's got some issues, and needs to stop trying. [ Oh, his tone says boy doesn't like Miss Love. Opps.]

[ He looked at her a long moment before rolling his eyes.] Nice try, that wont work on me. When you shot me, thats not my fault... well it kinda was, since i was in the way, but were both to blame. Your not getting away scott free.

SEE! [Standing up like, bitch I gotta have witnesses here.] You just said! You were in the way! [See how she just, latches onto that one thing and is trying to run with it?

The sparkle in her eyes at least suggests she's joking around.]

Dude. Trust. [Sitting down again.] Out there with all the people and the alcohol? It's where I'm at my best. It's when you add weapons and people who try to kill me that I don't do so well.

Sit down, Kenzi.

[ He gave her half a warning look, like he would do anything besides bitch. When she sat back down he nodded some.]

Kinda funny how were opposite in that respect.

So what you're saying is that between us we make for a duo of awesome. Like Batman and Robin. Iron Man and War Machine. [A beat.] Ren and Stimpy? [Grinning again.]

...lets go with Iron Man and War Machine. Sounds cooler... though to be honest we likely have more in common with Batman and Robin. Dead parents and all. [ He just assumes her's are dead, opps.]

Par-ent. [This is one of those times where Kenzi acts like this subject isn't one of import. (Bluff 44).] My Moms is still alive and living with her douchebag husband as far as I know but we didn't really talk even before I came through the veil. [And now, it was impossible.]

I don't have enough angsty manpain to pull off Bruce and I'm way too cute to be a sidekick. [Grinning.]

[ He feel for that bluff but still gave a sympathetic look. His own bluff had been a 24, but Kenzi was there when he asked the fortune teller about his mom. So opps.] That sucks, well. At least we got the knighthood right? We make our own families.

So, Ironman and Warmachine, whose who then? Oh knower of things.

Found families generally beat the crap out of the ones you're born into most of the time anyway.

Oh, I'm totally Ironman. Human with awesome gadgets and a high alcohol tolerance? I lack the mad cash but if a desire to be filthy rich counts for anything, then I'm totes Ironman.

Exactly, well except for my little sister. She's cool as hell.

[ Not that he really knows, he's not allowed around her. But, he adores her all the same.]

Okay, you can have that one. Warmachine's a cool name anyway.

[That throws her for a loop, Kenzi's head cocking to one side.]

You've got a sister?! And why haven't I met the the mini-lady-you, yet?!

[She says... Putting her foot in it without even knowing.]

It's totally a respectable name. Plus, scary sounding.

[ he pulls his phone out and unlocks it, turning it so she can see his background Considering his hair was short in the picture it's not recent.]

Her name's Melody. My bitch of an aunt has her. You haven't met her because well... its a long story but I have a restraining order keeping me away from my aunt and Melody. Her husband calls now and then to tell me how things are and sends pictures. She think's I'm her cousin.

[ clearly more to the story than he's ever shared. Kenzi was the closest he has to a bff since Adam went away wherever people go.]

I think we got a plan, Ironman, besides if you use the periodic table, Ironman means iron woman.

[That, was clearly the last thing she expected him to say. Kenzi's head cocking to one side and concern welling in her pale blue eyes. There's an instinctive part of her that wants to hunt this Aunt down and give her what for. Sure, without even knowing what happened, that Mars was in no way at fault.]

Well that's some bullshit. [Making up for what she lacks in eloquence with the sincere concern that's in her voice.] Does that mean she doesn't know anything about your parents, either?

[Yeah she's not dropping the Ironman shenanigans but, she's not about to deviate from the topic of his sister.]

Come on, lets go to my room. I think it's time I told you the whole story.

[ he pushed up, running a hand through his hair, looking a little more serious as he downed the last of his drink. He didn't want people evsdropping but the fact he didn't answer her question shows there's a lot to it. ]

[Without so much as a hint of regret for the unfinished drink she was leaving behind. Kenzi slides from the stool and nods her agreement.]

Lead the way.

[ It wasn't that far of a walk to Mars' room and somehow when he opened the door, Venus was already inside, who knows how she pulled that off, but Mars does not look surprised.]

This way. [ he says to invite her in, waiting for her to pass he before he will close that door and for once, lock it.]

[Kenzi's follows Mars into his room, bee-lining straight for Venus, whom she scoops up with a Handle Animal of 25.

It's not lost on her that he's not just opting for privacy but locking doors to boot and so when she takes a seat on the sofa she'd claimed last time she'd paid him a visit. There's no hiding the concern that wells in her blue eyes.]

You're actually starting to worry me which... is saying something.

[ And Venus is all about being held by Kenzi. Purring happily in her arms and nuzzling her head against Kenzi. Mars made his way over dropping himself into the chair instead of on the couch with her. ]

I don't mean to worry you, I just don't really like telling people about this stuff but I trust you, I don't trust all of them. [ He motioned towards the door.] Remember i told you my parents died in a car crash? Well, they didn't.

[She tries, more for his sake to keep the concern from her features. Kenzi casually stroking Venus underneath her chin as she watches Mars.

Maybe if she'd seen that one coming, she could have kept her eyebrows from disappearing beneath her bangs.]

Uh... okay. [Trying to throw off her confusion with a shake of her head.] But are they... well, ya know. [Dead.]

[ Venus purrs for her, very happy to be in Kenzi's lap. She loves the attention okay.

Mars meanwhile shrugs a bit, an unsure look crossed his face. ]

My dad's dead, very very dead. My mother... well, no one knows. She disappered after she killed him and tried to kill me and Melody. [ He spoke it in a rather unsure tone, running a hand through his hair.] My dad never told her that he was a sorcerer, he never told me either. I didn't know until a year after he died why he could make lights appear. Mom, she hated shadowkind. I guess one night she figured it out. Melody was only 3 months old when she snapped, I was 15. [ he waits to let that sink in.]

[Even Kenzi struggles to keep her features schooled to neutral as Mars speaks. (WS 18). Her heart in her mouth as with every word he takes what she knew wouldn't be a story with a happy ending and turns it into one that's far worse than any she could have anticipated.

She knows something about words that seem hollow, not enough and so she doesn't offer him her apologies. He'd know that she's sorry without hearing it.]

Your aunt and uncle... [Voice quiet, like she doesn't want to disturb the intensity of the moment by speaking too loudly.] They on your mothers side?

[ He nodded slowly, running both hands through his hand which was something he does when he's uncomfortable, sitting back he sighed some.]

Yeah, my uncle Bobby's pretty cool he's an open minded kinda guy, he's married into the family, Melody has his last name they adopted her. Aunt Mary can't have children she used to watch me a lot when I was small so I used to hear her complain at my mother about how unfair it was that being older she didn't have children first. Mel was too young to remember anything so, Mary made the choice that she was going to take Mel, and that she didn't want to deal with any truama I may or may not have had.

So, I got shipped off to my grandmother, by the time I got to see her again they told me I was never allowed to tell her about our parents, and I decided fuck that and when she was five I tried to tell her. Thus restraining order. She's my sister, I carried her out of that house. [ he looked at his phone.] The last time i saw her my uncle brought her to after the LA mission.

[She hangs on his every word as he fills out the missing details that made up the life of Mars, Kenzi not looking overly concerned and yet? That was perhaps more for his sake than for a lack of feeling. There was nothing worse than seeing the look of pity in a persons eyes when they heard about the most painful moments of your life.]

No matter what crap your Aunt tells her... she's still your sister. [And while she might not know that, eventually she will and it won't be Mars she hates for the lie. It will be her so-called parents.]

So it's not like a, magic hate thing with your aunt is it? [Because she hates to point out the obvious here but if his dad had magic and Mars does... ]

[ He was thankful for the lack of pity. He prided himself on being mostly together after everything that's happened. He hadn't even told Adam about his parents but Kenzi was one of his closest friends and he trusted her with it.]

She is, but she's had a life time of my aunt filling her head with stories of me being crazy, I know that much for fact. One day, one day I will get Mel back, for now I just have to wait and not follow my instincts to lash out at my aunt.

I don't know with her, but I know uncle Bobby is cool with it. My aunt I dont know, she doesn't talk to me unless were screaming at one another. It's been a concern for a long time, but she knows, theres no way she can't know.

Have you thought about writing to her? [She shakes her head, realizing that's shouldn't mean how it would sound.] I don't mean like, send her a letter I mean...

No matter what your aunt says to her? One day, she's going to have questions and she will seek you out. Maybe you can't be there the way you want to right now but if you write it down, then you'll have something to show her that proves she's always been a part of your life, even when you've been locked out of hers.
