[  Jaina Solo has been searching for more information about the Jedi Order and the Force for years now, certain that she and her family can't be the only ones who fell through from a galaxy far, far away.  It would seem that her search has finally paid off:  a Jedi Master may have been recently seen in Malaysia, taking a boat to the island of Luzon, where she was discovered dead on the slopes of a volcano.

With the fallen Jedi's lightsaber in hand, Jaina has asked her friends and family to help her investigate, and try to recover the lost item that the Jedi was carrying on her person - one that was not left with the body.    They've decided to head to the port first, to see what rumors may be left in her wake.  The beautiful Malaysia port of Kudat looks out over inviting blue waters, a number of ships lined up here of all shapes and sizes.  ]

[As they run, Han keeps his eyes peeled, looking around, though he's more focused on running than looking (spot 15).]

[ it won't even take a spot check to see this:

down in the valley, near one of the little shacks present there, probably 300 feet away, poe is on his knees, a blaster in his hand, pointed at a figure whose back is to them, wearing a dark cloak. purple lightning arcs from their fingers at poe, whose gun seems to run out of power after just a couple ineffective blasts, and he's struck full on by the sparks, which course across his body briefly.

an activated lightsaber is in their opposite hand, striated black and red. the kids freeze in place, staring in wonder and horror at the scene below, rooted to the spot.

jaina moves in front of them, holding an arm out across them: ] Stay back.

[For once he rolls a high enough will save to actually listen to Jaina's suggestion (whether or not it was intended for just the kids lmao), and though every bit of him is screaming to run in there and help his squire, he remains rooted in place.]

Poe! Run!

[Aaaand hold action.]

[ poe, however, had jammed another power cell in and fired off more shots at the dark sider - who, now prepared, takes only the first shot, before that lightsaber whirs in front of their body, deflecting the next (25 deflection) right back at poe (atk 22, dmg 15 if that hits him), and the next (16 deflection), although it veers away from him, and the next, which rebounds with sinister precision (deflection 31, atk 18, dmg 16), black and red blade moving almost too fast to see as it intersects each bolt.

their free hand lifts abruptly and poe would feel the blaster rattling in his hand as they attempt to rip it right out of his grip (move object 30 vs... a str check from him). assuming he doesn't nat 20, the gun goes flying out of his hand, well out of reach some two hundred meters away from them. ]

[Han has his blaster up already and starts shooting (atk 16, dmg 9 on the off chance that hits).]

[ Pausing briefly at the ledge to watch the scene play out, Rey's eyes widen as Jaina, Miles, and Han react. The blaster fire and the rattle of Poe's gun from a ways off sparks her back to herself and demands action; he's going to be unarmed and alone in a second there, against a lightsaber of all things.

Rey draws Luke's lightsaber from the bag at her hip and barrels down into the fray with a bellow, disregarding Jaina's warning fully. ] LET HIM GO!

[ han's shot comes nowhere near the figure and as rey starts sprinting down into the thick of things, jaina shoots a look back at the kids, her voice firm as she insists: ] RUN.

[ their eyes widen and they waste no time obliging, at which point jaina draws the lightsaber off her own belt, glances between it, the black and red blade in the distance, and her father, who can see the momentary uncertainty in her eyes.

she depresses the button and the purple blade hums to life, at which point she starts running after rey. ]

[Oh shit, here we go. Everyone's running in there and the kids are running away and he's not just gonna stand here like an idiot.

So he starts booking it after Jaina and Rey, too.

Time to save his squire...hopefully.]

[yeaaaaah, that 9 strength is not going to help at all. The first shot hits him, but he is able to avoid the second just by the skin of his teeth. The pain from the blaster shot - and the lightning before - causes the blaster to be easily ripped from his hand.]

Sithspit.

[without a weapon, he is just going to get up, and double move to dart around the side of the building and get out of the line of sight of the masked man. And he is totally going to look inside of the building again and see if that object from before that had been glowing was alone on the table (search 18).]

[At least Poe moved out of the immediate vicinity. That's a small relief.

In the meantime, he's just gonna keep running at full speed, which I believe still leaves him out of melee range.]

[ the object IS there, sitting on the table, inert now, instead of glowing...

meanwhile, the dark sider steps forward, raising both hands in fists, visibly gathering some kind of glowing red miasma around their body... which they unleash once they're within fifteen feet of jaina and rey. the sensation is almost more emotional than physical - it feels like they're being assaulted with a venomous hatred, and must make Fort saves DC 18 or take 8 dmg (4 on a successful save). either way, they take a -2 on attacks, skills checks, and ability checks for the next round.

jaina visibly wavers under the assault, gasping (fort 14) and the masked figure turns their attention to her, a metallic voice speaking, darkly amused. ]

That blade. You dare raise it against me again, after I felled its last owner?

Seems like the best time to raise a blade against someone to me.

[Han runs after everyone else, since dammit, this asshole better not hurt his daughter. Or the other people. After a full move action's worth of running, he raises his pistol again and fires another shot (atk 18, dmg 14).]

[ Rey fights it off for a moment, seems to overcome it for a second, but then falls prey to the miasma (fort 17). She staggers, but ignites a blue lightsaber beam in a flash of burnt ozone, closes the distance between them to swing Luke's lightsaber up and bring it hard against the dark sider before her in a flash of anger, outraged by the way they tout their victory over the owner of the purple saber as a victory of some kind (atk 22, dmg 17). ]

[ with a 23 reflex save, the figure raises a gloved hand in front of the bolt that han shoots, deflecting it and sending it right back at him with alarming precision (atk 29, dmg 14). seeing this, jaina goes pale, and then charges in to flank the dark sider, swinging the purple blade in a wide, deliberate stroke that manages to strike (atk 28, dmg 10). ] Dad!

[you guys just keep distracting the evil guy, ok? Poe is going to just sneak himself inside (move silently 19) and grab that object while keep himself out of view.]

[Sure, no problem. Just gonna try to deck the evil force user in the face. I'm sure that'll work out well for everyone (atk nat 20, dmg 30).

the red and black saber rises to intercept rey's with a loud vrrrrmm, batting it away and then using the opening to cut a devastating slash across her torso (atk 34, dmg 12).

the blade continues to hum as it twirls with unspeakable speed, but rey feels something within urging her out of the way of the second cut (atk 13). the opening, however, is all miles needs to get in there and land a punch square on the metallic mask - actually hard enough that it emits a loud crack, splintering, and half of it breaks off, falling to the ground and leaving the dark sider's face partially exposed.

the pale skin revealed beneath however, belongs to a distinctly feminine face, lips drawn back into a vicious sneer, a trickle of blood rolling across the white skin from where the mask cut as it shattered. there's only a moment's pause before she brings her blade around towards miles instead, swinging with deadly intent (atk 25, dmg 9). ] Fools.

[Han grimaces, because ow.] I'm okay! [Okay enough to keep shooting, anyway, even if he's favoring the side that didn't get hit now. He aims again, hoping she's distracted enough by all the other fighters that she can't deflect this one (atk 25 dmg 13).]

[ Distracted by Jaina's shout and the way it contextualizes who has been hit by the deflected blast, it's impossible to stave off the blow of a dark-sider much more powerful and much better trained than the only other she's faced.

It's the first time she's felt the stinging lash of a lightsaber, and it nearly takes her down. The blade lances through muscle and bone across her ribs like it's not even there, and she chokes out a sound of surprise to release sufficient pain so that she might smother the rest.

She looks down at the sizzling burn where it sears her shirt against her flesh just long enough to miss Miles' punch land, but the crack of the mask and looks up to see a beautiful face staring out at them. Not all monsters look like monsters, she reminds herself, thinking of Starkiller Base; maybe by the end, this one will look the part too. ]

You killed her. [ She spits the words out, coming up again with the lightsaber as she shouts, ] Did you think no one would come for you?! [ Luke's blade hums as it cuts through the ozone, jabbing for Vane's side (atk 27, dmg 19 or 22 if penetration counts/works with lightsabers; atk 13). ]

[ she does seem too distracted to deflect the blaster bolt - but she also seems to know instantly when it's coming, easily bending her body away from the red streak before it can strike her. in fact, only working in tandem with jaina flanking her can rey get a single attack in (penetration does work, yes!), one that sears a wound right into her skin, causing her to suck in a pained hiss rather than respond. jaina presses the advantage, bringing her own blade around (atk 28, dmg 8) before bringing her blade down in a powerful, overhead thrust, blade searing into her shoulder ... and going right through, the black and red lightsaber hitting the grass and extinguishing itself... as the arm lands next to it (nat 20, dmg 56).

as the dark sider sinks to one knee, admirably keeping from unleashing a scream as she reaches up with her one arm to clutch at the cauterized wound, panting against the pain, jaina's one hand falls to her side, the tip of the purple blade drooping towards the ground itself as she stares at what she's done. she seems to be processing, a bit shocked by the power of the weapon, by what she's done, and uncertain how to feel about it. ]

[Poe is going to sneak back out, hiding the object in his pockets. He's still unarmed, but he can see that the battle is done with the dark-sider unarmed. Literally. He's still hurting himself, but is going to just push through it to rejoin the group and check in.

Meanwhile, 200 feet away BB-8 has finally made his way down the stairs and is going to just bend over and retrieve that blaster for Poe with his little pincher arm]

But he did just get a really up close and personal view of Jaina slicing off this woman's arm and that was pretty intense, tbh. His eyes widen ever so slightly, but he doesn't react to shockingly otherwise, so he definitely didn't expect her to be able to use that thing so well.

Maybe it's a Force thing?

He's gonna reach down and pick up the dark sider's weapon, though. He doesn't want to find out if she's ambidextrous the hard way.]

[ her head tilts aside slightly, catching the hand picking up her blade out of the corner of her eye, and fixing a baleful stare on the spot. ]

She took what was mine. You would defend a thief.

[Han has seen enough arms cut off in his day that he really doesn't look phased tbh. He jogs over, looking over Jaina and Rey with a soft frown. But they'll live. They can get fixed up later.]

Better a thief than a murderer. [Says the guy who's done both, honestly. Oops. This isn't about him.]
