Cordelia and Steve have gotten together to plan a rather fun party to celebrate Sarandis being taken down. Abbie even managed to grab them a rather awesome band to entertain the guests and everything else was hand picked and decided on by Cordy and Steve. It's not as fancy as a squiring after party, but it's just as fun. The ballroom has been "dressed down" a little to match the relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy yourselves!

[Cora is also lingering on the outskirts of the party, mostly because it's her party default, and she's not really sure how she feels about all of this either. She's glad that Sarandis is gone, that he wasn't spared in the interest of justice because it's the "right thing" and she's glad that it's over.

But she didn't lose as much as other people did, so she's not sure she's right in having those feelings quite yet. She'll probably talk to someone about it later, but for right now she's just going to make her way over to her raccoon friend and sit down next to him, looking up with a small nod.]

[Yep, that's it. That's her opening.]

[beatupgrass]

[Rocket looks up at her and then proceeds to pass her a bottle of what is probably top shelf whiskey stolen from the bar. it does not occur to him that most people would not want to drink from the same bottle he had his furry raccoon mouth on.]

Good riddance to bad trash, right? [he's trying so hard to be convincing and he is failing at it.]

[impetere]

[She also ... doesn't drink so she'll just raise the bottle and hold onto it a bit before giving it back to him.]

Good riddance.

[He doesn't have to be convincing. She gets how it can be complicated.]

At least he can't hurt anyone else.

[beatupgrass]

[more for him, then. he takes it back and takes a long swig.]

At least there's that. Even after we burned his freakin' lab down, he still had back-ups somewhere. [Rocket barely suppresses a shudder.] He might still have people workin' on those experiments even after. Flark if I know.

[maybe that's what he's afraid of. sarandis wasn't the one who really hurt him. he was the one who ordered it. he puts as much blame on the scientists as he does him.]

[She wrinkles her nose at that.]

Well, if they're out there, we'll find them. Taking him out is the first step.

[beatupgrass]

I should probably stick my name on the short list to hunt 'em down. [he's a little anxious about it. infiltrating the last one almost broke him. but at least these ones- if they're out there in any real capacity- have the distinction of not being familiar.

but they're all familiar, aren't they?] Maybe that'll make me feel better.

[She pauses before giving a small shrug.]

I don't think it works that way. Even if they pay for it, what they took from you is still gone.

[Hearing that Kate was dead was a relief in a lot of ways, but her family was still dead.]

Hey, they didn't take anything from me. [a tad defensively.

except you know if they hadn't, he wouldn't be feeling so lousy or he wouldn't have kicked his way through the pieces of the lab on Andres.]

[Yeah, she's not sure she believes that, Rocket (sense motive 28). She just looks at him skeptically for a moment, because she wants to see if she gives him enough leeway he'll figure it out on his own or if she has to spell it out.]

[beatupgrass]

[his ears flatten to his skull and he looks uncomfortable under her scrutiny, until he turns away.] They didn't take anything I hadn't already lost a long time ago.

[which is still, very obviously transparent.]

[impetere]

[Her face softens a bit, before she nods, pulling one knee up to her chest.]

It doesn't mean it doesn't matter though.

[beatupgrass]

Doesn't it? [he crosses his arms over his chest.] 'Cause if it matters, it's like maybe it just kept happenin' to me 'cause I deserved it or 'cause that's where I was always gonna end up.

It's easier to think of it like it was all just bad timin'.

[impetere]

Maybe some of it was. But bad timing doesn't change the fact that it happened, either.

[A beat.]

Just like I didn't deserve to get my family burned alive just because we were werewolves, but it still happened. It still ... changed me, I guess.

[beatupgrass]

[he gives her a sidelong look and then turns away. he's terrible at sympathy.] People are flarked up, ain't they?

[impetere]

Yep.

[She sighs as she stares back into the party.]

I won't argue there.

[beatupgrass]

At least we're tryin' to fix that... one genocidal torturin' megalomaniac son of a bitch at a time. [he raises his bottle in a mock toast.]

[impetere]

[She nods in agreement.]

Amen to that.

[And she glances over at him.]

Want some company out here?

[They don't have to talk - she's good with contemplative silences, but if he wants to be alone she can do that too.]

[beatupgrass]

You sure you don't wanna get back to your party? [he's not saying no....]

[impetere]

[She shakes her head.]

I don't actually like parties.

[beatupgrass]

[he shrugs, not one to be grateful without it being forced out of him.] Then I guess we're sittin' here, then.

[and so they sat in contemplative silence while Rocket drinks.]
