[A garbled, static-filled transmission, encoded in a Shadow language, has made its way to the Knights attention, seemingly linked to a series of similar transmissions last year.  Equipped with a decoding program by the Dragon's Hoard, the Knights head to a set of railroad tracks that were mentioned, to try to see what this is all about... ]

[Dipper manages to contain his questions during the transit, though he does take out his phone and type furiously. I'm sure it's nothing. No, it's just easier to take notes on his phone one handed than on paper, even if he prefers paper. He can transcribe them or print them later. He sticks close to Mabel's side, but he doesn't take his eyes off the group for very long, as if afraid they'll slip away into the shadows the second he looks away.

When they finally arrive, he tucks his phone away, pulls out his notebook and a pen, and glares around at everyone suspiciously.]

Okay. So what's your deal, then?

[They seemed to have good intentions, but then again, so do lizard people before they take off their skin.]

[mabeljuice]

[meanwhile, Mabel is wandering around the room with wide eyes like she belongs here.]

Ooooh fancy~ Vigilante justice must pay out the butt.

[theshadowspeaks]

[ Deryn had vanished into one of the hotel rooms when they arrived for a second peaking back out when Dipper asked his question, stepping on back out of the room... with a bag of cheetos he was opening. ]

What does Vigilante mean again? My English is not the best.

It means these two think we're not operating within the law. [Which depending on the Mission wasn't entirely inaccurate to be honest...]

It's not that simple. [Frankie dropping a set of keys on the table as she so helpfully adds;] But the pay doesn't suck.

[lowvi]

I don't think secret government organization is that much better than secret vigilante organization. [Dipper may have some authority problems. Just a few.] But you don't have any badges, right? None that you've shown anyway.

[thetokenaussie]

I don't know. It sounds cooler. [Tone dry enough that it's hard to tell if she's joking or not.

Dropping into a seat at the table.]

Nope. [The least informative.] I've got a swipe card and a credit card but I don't think that's what you're after.

[theshadowspeaks]

Nope, but I have snacks?

[ He answered as he started to work on the cheetos. He's new, sorry Dipper.]

[lowvi]

I mean, I wouldn't turn down either of those. [A beat. Whoops, probably not something he should say out loud. He clears his throat and takes a seat at the table as well.]

So what is it you guys actually do?

[mabeljuice]

Besides do all that crazy action movie stuff I didn't think anyone does in real life.

[JUST GONNA MAKE HERSELF AT HOME. she gestures at deryn.] Snack me, friend.

[theshadowspeaks]

I'm new, I don't do much.

[ he offers the cheetos over to Mabel with a grin. Pulling a bag from aside the chair he had flopped in and putting it between them a whole bag of snacks.]

It's my first time in America. I was told Americans have amazing snacks!

Yeah, that's a myth. [The hint of a wry grin touching her lips as she gently rains on Deryn's parade.

She's Australian okay. She was born to argue that Australia has the best snacks.]

And I shot some tyres, I'm not Jason Bourne. [Though at least she appears to see how it might have looked that way, still with the grin.]

We, investigate things. Strange occurrences, unexplained deaths. The kind of stuff that local authorities aren't able to handle. We specialize in the unusual I guess.

That's what we do. [Dipper sounds somewhere between excited, annoyed, and jealous. They probably have actual money and technology, but also that's his and Mabel's schtick. There are people who do it professionally?]

[mabeljuice]

'Cept we don't get paid. [om nom snacks.]

[lowvi]

Nope, we just get the thrill of adventure and satisfaction of helping people. Getting paid sounds way better.

[theshadowspeaks]

It is a bonus, but I bet you guys have a lot of fun. We have rules we have to follow and such. You guys make up your own right?

[ He asked curiously between cheetos. Looking over to Frankie.] Really? Where are the best ones? I want to go there next.

[mabeljuice]

Rules schmules. [she waves her hand.] Being a sibling duo that travels the world, solve mysteries, and punches things does not keep you in Sudoku books and thrift store rhinestone scrunchies.

[thoughtful chewing] Also we spent our last three months of savings on Hamilton tickets.

[lowvi]

So worth it. [It was about history and had lots of music! THE PERFECT INTERSECTION OF THEIR INTERESTS. Could have used more secret codes.]

Not to mention rent and food. Turns out you can't eat fun. Or rhinestone scrunchies. [A beat.] Well, you can, but you really shouldn't.

[theshadowspeaks]

You guys should just come with us back to headquarters.

[ He's new, he doesn't know any better.]

[thetokenaussie]

Australia. [For Deryn. Yep her bias is showing in her accent.] We prefer creative problem solving, rather than making our own but it's, basically the same thing, yeah. [Grinning wryly.]

Sometimes you gotta bend a few rules here and there to get the job done. [Ya know. Like firing a weapon in a public space and taking off before the cops show up.

If anyone thinks that Frankie is going to contradict Deryn though?] Can't make any promises but... hey at worst? Free trip to London, right?

[lowvi]

[Dipper looks over at Mabel.]

...is this an actual job offer? Cause London's really far away and I'd love a free trip there but again, bills to pay, and I don't know how much time off I can get with short notice. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm happy to quit, but they might not rehire me and then I'd have to job hunt again....

[mabeljuice]

[Mabel PUNCHES HIM IN THE ARM.] He's joking! My brother... such a comedian.

[theshadowspeaks]

I want to go there then, I want to try the snacks.

It could be, I took a shot in the dark and got a job. I'm sure if were wrong Wynn would at least make sure you both got home. I don't know though, it's always worth a shot.

[ He gave a shrug and offered the rest of the bag over to Mabel. ] I dont like these. To much cheese dust, want them?

[Barely hiding her amusement as Mabel punches Dipper. She has brothers okay. Watching them makes her a little homesick.]

What he said. [Shrugging.] Wynn's the boss so, he's the only one who can make it official but... [She takes a quiet moment to consider them both.

Leaning in.] Did I mention we have a private jet?
