With five dead members of a gang whose members are composed of entirely non-human Shadowkind, Belgium police are concerned that a gang war is about to break out, with accusations flying towards an anti-Shadow gang in the same inner-city neighborhood in Brussels.  The Knights are sent to get to the bottom of this, and to that end, they've arrived in the city and made their way towards the section of town where the deaths have been occurring...

[ they glare each other down a bit more, before the human scoffs and waves a hand.

"Fine. Whatever. We'll clear out and you can look around all you want." ] There, that wasn't so hard, was it?

[Ava will wait for them to start to disperse before she breaks her concentration. Mouth set into a grim line as her gaze lifts to the rest of the group.]

Perhaps somebody in the Church might be able to offer assistance. [Without a side of threats and bickering.]

That's not a bad idea. Maybe they heard something.

[Baal keeps his eyes on them until they are gone before looking back at the ladies]

Then let us continue and see what the good people inside have heard, and how it conflicts with the stories of those men.

It can't hurt. [ and so they push through the doors into the church, which is largely empty, although rather beautifully kept inside. a few quiet men or women sit in the pews here or there, on their own, and near the front, a priest lights candles slowly. ]

[monosaccharide]

[Bubblegum nods in agreement.]

Sounds like a plan. [She strides purposefully towards the building.]

[lowering his voice, he nodded with his head at the priest]

I will speak with the man of faith if you wish to talk to those in the benches.

[silverguardian]

[ nyna nods to the others to do as he says, and let baal handle the priest. she goes to stand by the door to keep an eye out for any trouble coming in. ]

[byyourleave]

[and Baal will make his way forward, taking care to tuck his necklaces under his shirt so not to offend the man]

Excuse me, sir. May I have a moment of your time?

[behindcloseddoors]

[ he stops and turns to regard baal with solemn eyes and a small smile.

"Of course, son. How may I help you?" his voice is heavily accented, but he certainly seems comfortable with english. ]

[english is good, even if it's not his first language either]

I have come to town with a team to try and help solve the problems that have been building between it's citizens. As a man of faith, have you any insight on the origins of the anger that exists?

[behindcloseddoors]

[ there's a shift in his expression immediately at the words, a pinched sort of look that indicates this is something he not only deals with often, but is frustrated and disheartened with. ] You're speaking of the lack of tolerance between those of this world and those pilgrims from another.

[Avaleen is probably the worst person to have speak to the people in the pews, her face a mask of near horror at the thought of interrupting people while they commune with their gods but aware they have an important purpose here, she moves towards one of the pews and finds a spot near one of the people they spotted.

Rather than interrupt immediately, she takes a moment to offer up her own prayers. Head bowed, eyes closed, Ava not speaking with any god she imagined the person next to her was but it seemed right to take this moment first. Because Ava okay.

After a long, quiet moment she lifts her gaze and turns it towards the person near her, offering a weak smile but not about to interrupt if they appear absorbed in their own prayers. (Spot 20 Total.)]

[ the person there is human, and he seems to be praying, but his gaze is drawn to the abnormally beautiful woman beside him once, then twice, then once more, and her soft smile draws one from him as well. he greets her in the local tongue, the intention clear enough. ]

[Baal nodded] Yes, that is what I speak of. We believe if we know the moment this distrust started, we could work back to try and heal it for the sake of all of those here.

[behindcloseddoors]

[ he paces away, still looking troubled and resigned.

"Ah, you speak as though there was one catalyzing moment. This anger has simmered beneath the surface since their number first arrived. These recent deaths merely gave them an excuse to act upon them." ]

[monosaccharide]

[Meanwhile, Bubblegum will casually search the room to see if there's any clues lying around that might point them in the right direction (search nat 20, 28 total).]

It is always the nature of one not to trust outsiders. But the deaths gave the excuse, and became the event. Would not the solving of one help start the other to heal?

[silverguardian]

[ bubblegum notices something strange - one of the stained glass windows looks to have been cracked heavily, as if hit by something very solid, perhaps a rock on the outside.

"I can only hope you're right..."

by the door, nyna has perked up, looking out of the archway with a troubled expression. ] I think there's something going on out there...

[delicere]

[ Her smile having the desired result, only sees Ava's widen along with her eyes, a hand gently raising in the universal sold for 'hold up buddy' as she interjects.]

Do you, speak English at all?

[byyourleave]

I hope I am too.

[he hears Nyna's voice, turning to look at her a moment before back to the priest]

Do you have any suggestions on what we may be able to do to help these people?

[bubblegolem]

[Bubblegum strides over to examine the window more thoroughly, pulling out a small machine to scan the area for traces of the force people insist on calling magic (detect magic).]

[silverguardian]

[ the man ava addresses blinks a bit, then nods slowly. "Some," he says, his accent quite thick. "For prayer?" he gestures to the pulpit.

bubblegum's machine comes up negative, as nyna takes a few hurried steps towards the door. what she sees there clearly disturbs her, and she turns back to urgently shout: ] We have trouble! [ before running out the door. the priest is distracted from baal's question, double-taking after her ]

[yeah, that's not good. Baal is going to stand up and bow his head]

I'm sorry, sir. I have a feeling that trouble outside is not as resolved as we had hoped. Please, for the safety of those in here, urge them to stay inside the sanctuary. I will come back to let you know when things are safe outside.

[and not waiting for his answer, he is going to sprint to join Nyna]
