[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.  This takes place after the Knights have returned from Dimitris' wedding. 

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. Amaranth has been by my side for my entire life. But you're right. He is very protective.

[Which might be more convincing if the creature wasn't purring loudly and bumping his head against Smith's hands, demanding more pets.]

He seems to like you, though.

[ He got a little distracted talking to Myri so the pets fell by the wayside, but he starts back up when he starts bumping into his hand. ]

I dunno. I feel like he just likes me cause I'm willing to pet him. I feel a little used.

[witchwoman]

He can be... persistent once he knows what he wants. [They're something of opposites like that.]

But he says that you seem like a good person. And he's a very good judge of character. [Yeah you heard right. They talk to each other.]

He said I'm a good person? You often take character judgment advice from your fuzzy friends?

[ He's not judging. More like teasing. ]

[witchwoman]

For most of my life, Amaranth was my only companion. I trust his opinion above everyone's.

[It was a weird, nomadic life for Myri for a long time.]

Are you saying he's wrong? [She asks with a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.]

Well, that makes sense, love.

[ He can understand how their connection would make his opinions valid. Even if he's sort of an animal. ]

I dunno. He might be biased cause I'm petting him.

[witchwoman]

Perhaps... [She smiles, then tilts her head a bit to the side, as if listening.]

He says he's not sure why you're arguing with him. And wants to know if you have anything to eat.

[Myri shakes her head and laughs before moving to sit beside him so that she can also give Amaranth a scratch behind the ears.]

He has a point, you know. Why are you so adamant to disagree with him that you're a good person?

Sadly I don't have any food on me. I'm sorry about that, mate.

[ He's gonna have to start investing on some snack bars or something if he's gonna be running into this cat again. ]

Cause truth is I don't know what kind of person I was before this. Like I said. There's no telling what damage I caused.

[witchwoman]

Or what good you did. [Myri tacks on, giving him a small hint of a smile.]

But in either case, it doesn't matter who you were. There's no going back there. What matters is who you choose to be here. You joined a knighthood for a reason, I imagine. There are plenty of jobs in the world. What made you want to do this one?

[ She is right though. He could have done good things, but it's just hard to expect good after this. He can't help, but wonder if the Veil erased his memory on purpose. To give him a second chance or to give the world one. ]

It was the closest thing to hunting monsters that I could find.

[witchwoman]

Is that something you remember doing? Hunting monsters?

[She sounds only slightly nervous, seeing as she was considered a "demon" by people that hunted her back in her world. I'm sure it's fine.]

No. That's something I do here. Or what I did before I was recruited to this. I lived in Chicago before all of this. Killed whatever tried to hurt innocent people.

[witchwoman]

[She seems to relax a very small amount. She knows that there are legit dangerous things around here. No denying that.]

I've spent a great deal of time in Chicago for my mission. I wonder if we might have crossed paths before and never realized it.

I dunno. I definitely would have remembered you if I saw you. Too pretty too forget, love.

[ He smiles over at her while petting her familiar. ]

[witchwoman]

[Between that smile and his compliment, she can't help the slight blush that colors her cheeks. She glances down at Amaranth to try to hide it, reaching up to tuck a lock of her hair behind her ear.]

Oh...well, you're very kind. [She stumbles over the words, a little flustered. It's been a long time since she's been flirted with, okay! She's out of practice!!]

[ He does like that blush. He won't lie. It's very cute. He watches her closely. Head tilted with his smile still in place. ]

Or I'm just being honest, love.

[witchwoman]

Can't you be both? [She forces herself to look up at him again, blush still coloring her cheeks, blue eyes a little brighter than before.]

I was going to take a walk around the grounds, get some fresh air while Shayla is spending time with her aunt. [Which one? She has a billion of them. Who knows.] Would you care to join me?

I suppose so.

[ He watches her for an extra second before he even answers. What he does is stand up and hold out a hand to her. ]

I would be honored. Just need to wrap up my weapons for transport.

[witchwoman]

[When he stands up, Myri realizes just how incredibly tall he is. Her hand slips into his when offered, pulling herself up and finding a good foot of a difference between them.]

Can I help at all? I'd be happy to carry something for you.

[She may look delicate, but she's field certified to carry a gun with her on missions, okay.]

[ Being 6'6 has it's advantages and disadvantages. He's learned that. He thinks about it and shakes his head. ]

I think I can manage. But I do fully expect you to hold my hand. So, be ready.

[ He backs up to put his weapons away and rolls thing up (think Mal in Firefly). He puts the bundle under one arm and comes back to her. Out comes his free hand and he wiggles his fingers. ]

[witchwoman]

[The offered hand takes her by surprise. It's the first moment that she actually starts to realize that maybe his comments and compliments aren't just-- Oh, she's not at all sure what to do with this.]

I... [Holding hands shouldn't be so complicated. Hell, she holds hands with Vi all the time and doesn't think twice. But this is different. It's a man. An attractive man, who has called her beautiful on more than one occasion in this conversation. Could he be...flirting?

Look, she's been out of the game for awhile.]

I'm married. [She blurts out while leaving him standing there with his hand outstretched.] Or... I was. It's... [She struggles to find her words, failing to decide a way to end that thought.]

[ She hasn't taken his hand yet and he's sort of confused. He waits though. Watching her struggle to find some words. She seems to be tripping over them. Which he is willing to wait on, but then she blurts out she's married. Which makes him look confused, but he hasn't pulled his hand away. It sort of just lingers there. She follows it up by saying she was and then trails off on him again. ]

What's that mean?

[witchwoman]

[She's not sure why it came out like that. Probably because she doesn't have a much better way to say it. And she's honest to a fault. But as soon as he raises that clarifying question, she wonders if she read this all wrong. Maybe he wasn't flirting. Maybe he just meant to be friendly.

She's not great at this, but now she at least owes him the answer to his question.]

There was an accident. In the field. [Her throat tightens, making each word a little more difficult.] His mind isn't his own anymore. He doesn't believe that any of this is real. Me. Our marriage. Our daughter. And when I tried to convince him... He became violent. So Wynn sent him away, where he couldn't hurt anyone- including himself.

[It's the first time she's talked about it with anyone who didn't already know about it. It's the first time she's explained it- even in as simple of terms as she's using now.]

[ That sounds awful. He can't imagine how someone would have to deal with something like that. Knowing that the person you loved the most could hurt you or your child without any thought whatsoever about it. That you'd have to handle everything on your own. Even with all these people around. It'd be complicated. Painful even. ]

If you'd prefer you can tell me to not flirt with you.

[witchwoman]

[She blinks, confused a bit by the words. She had suspected that he might have been flirting, but to hear it said so plainly is unexpected. Although, she has to admit, it's nice to know without having to wonder.]

I don't... [She shakes her head.] It's been a little more than a year since he left. Shayla wasn't even born. I still haven't decided if it's for the best or not that she may never meet her father. [The fact that it's a thought she has at all makes her feel terrible, but after seeing him lash out at her when she was pregnant, she doesn't want to risk her daughter being hurt like that.]

He's not coming back. Or at least... I can't allow myself to hope that he will. But it's been a long time since anyone has [she seems to struggle with the word, as if it's foreign] flirted with me. I'm not sure if I'm any good at knowing how to handle it.
