WHO || Everyone! [ota]
WHAT || Shenanigans. THIS IS MOSTLY AN OVERFLOW POST for the last social log whoops

[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies. This takes place after the Knights have returned from Dimitris' wedding.
You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. You can also specify 'single thread', meaning you want only one response for all participants, rather than multi-thread, where a number of different scenes/threads can be done as replies to the top prompt.]

Fortunate indeed. I cannot fault you - and the others I have encountered - for being so fiercely protective of what you have shaped here. It is a good thing, a rare alliance, to see so many differences come together to forge something so strong.

Nothing like this world. This place has inventions and magics much stranger than what I am accustomed to. Perhaps once we were as advanced as this, in our own way. But much was lost, and the world has forgotten. The humans started anew and have not advanced even half so far. It makes adjusting to this place, to it's uniqueness, a challenge at times. But I'm finding it fascinating all the same.
In my world there is more diversity in the races than this one seems to have. Humans and elves are most often seen on the surface, but the dwarves are just as numerous, even if they stick to their kingdom in the Deep Roads. There are other races and cultures among them and alongside them as well, although not seen as often.

There are blood mages, in your land?

It's not very common. Blood magic is...dangerous. The spells are more powerful, but that power does something to a person. The only one I ever knew was a priest. His name was Moncriith. He knew me when I was a child, blamed me for saving the witchwoman who raised me instead of his father when her home caught fire with the both of them inside. He started telling people that I caused the fire. That I was a demon and needed to be burned to cleanse the village of the evil I brought. So I ran. But his hate for me only grew as he studied the art of blood magic.
He hunted me. There are times when I still fear that he'll find his way through the Veil and come for me, for my daughter.

In my world, blood magic often leads to madness, and worse. Those who seek to control it are often arrogant, and ambitious. They turn to it in a thirst for more power, but if they have reached that far, often there is nothing that will satiate their thirst. They become monsters of their own making.
[ In its purest form, there was nothing evil about blood magic. It was those who tended to resort to it that brought the stigma it was now known with, and the abominations they so often became. ]

People forget, when they are afraid, that you are just as they are. They look for salvation in the most likely source, and when they do not find it, their instinct is always to lash out. Or worse, to twist your efforts into what they were not.
[ It is a concept he clearly understands all too well, as his gaze turns shadowed for a moment. ]

I've been lucky that everyone here has made a point to not blame me if I cannot save someone.
[She still blames herself though.]

Giving my all is precisely what my friends don't want me to do. I've had a few moments where the urge to heal was so strong that I nearly followed my patient through the void and into the next life.

That would be inadvisable. Your ability to heal is a gift, but as in all things with magic, balance is needed. Knowing your own limitations is something of utmost importance to any of us with the ability to shape magic to our whim.

Yes. [ He finally gives her the simple answer, meeting her gaze over the counter. ] But you might also take into account the others you could be able to save if you save some of yourself back. The fact that they might be dear to someone else without your ability to save them. Not to mention the one you hold dear no doubt holds you dear in return. Would you want them to sacrifice their everything for you and then have to go on without them? It is a lonely thought on either side of the equation.
