[ The Knights fly on Wynn's order to Riyadh, a dust-steeped collection of elaborate skyscrapers and flashing lights that looks to be the closest Saharan analogue to Las Vegas. Dunes stretch out around the endless, otherwise level horizon where giant, clouded dust storms threaten.

Their target, for all the boons he has bestowed on the local populace, has been enjoying a charmed life in one of the Ritz-Carlton, an anachronism of culture that more closely resembles the White House than any structure that belongs in Saudi. It isn't difficult to pinpoint where he might be harbored - lines of people choke the halls en route to the ballroom, craning their necks to try to see in, and cutting off any easy access to the location. ]

[She sounds pretty hopeful, though, with a slight touch of anxiety.]

[And that makes Malina narrow her eyes because other knights have had run ins with gods before. She's not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.]

Do you want to explain to me why an apparently legitimate institute based out of London is all the way out here breaking in to a building because they're trying to find a Djinn? Or are you going to keep interrogating me and wasting time until we get caught in here?

[Malina purses her lips together, before pointing towards the crowds of people.]

There's a djinn granting wishes in the ballroom. We didn't want to give him a chance to mess with too many people before we figured out what he was up to. Djinn don't usually go public like this - it's weird. So our boss asked us to check it out.

Your portal, however, might explain some of that.

Or it explains that it's not a djinn at all and actually a god. Here's hoping it's a nice one.

Well, whatever it is, I say we hope it's a nice one of that regardless.

[ there's definitely the sound of people distantly talking as they approach, and while she doesn't know the language, it's clear they're heading this way ]

[Malina glances back to her and nods.]

Let's grab our uniforms if you haven't already and start moving. We can make a plan on the move.

[And with that she will adjust her uniform and make sure everyone's good to go before she makes her way towards the opposite door, if one exists, if not, out the one they came in looking like she basically belongs there (bluff 22, disguise 20 total).]

[ there's only the one door, so out they go back to the hallway, where a few employees are making their way down the hall. they don't seem to take any particular notice of malina at least, and just keep walking. ]

[Jane looks at Darcy before she tilts her head toward the group before she starts to just follow after them.

Safety...in numbers?]

[With a non-committal shrug, Darcy falls in beside Jane. There's a dude that has glitter magic. Of course she's on board with going with them.]

[She glances to Alex, keeping her voice low.]

I'm thinking we check out the portal first. It seems like the bigger problem, and maybe it's where this djinn's power is coming from.

[Malina nods before glancing to Jane.]

[Her eyebrows lift. Surprise, she doesn't really know.]

Further inside? I couldn't exactly pinpoint it on a schematic or anything. It's hard to get readings that precise from the other side of the world, you know.

Not that I think this is a bad idea, per se, but if the djinn slash god came through the portal and then left to.... to swindle innocent people who are starving which is just plain rude of him, like it's Ramadan have some respect. Anyway don't you think he would have left it guarded or trapped? Traps we'll be walking right into. [ caroline pipes up from the back of the group. lmao y'all gonna die first. LOOK! she can punch a djinn, she can't punch a portal, she doesn't like this idea. she's too young to die again. ]

If the portal originated where I think it did, it won't be a djinn at all. You say you heard someone is swindling people?

[They weren't going to just walk into it like a dumb. But with that she's going to turn back to Jane.]

That's what caught our boss' attention. He says that the djinn is being way too public and making way too many promises.

You don't have a thingy to follow the ...signature or whatever now that you're here?

[She doesn't know enough about djinn to have any context for that, so she'll just take Malina's word for it.

She shakes her head.]

The amount of energy something like that produces isn't small enough to get that kind of exact position. It would be like trying to determine the exact spot where an earthquake originated.

[She glances around as they walk, trying to stay focused even as she speaks.]

Besides, as far as I could tell, based on the readings, it isn't open anymore. I'm looking for whoever came through it, not the portal itself.

From the readings you got when the portal was open - can you detect like ... remnants of it on that person? Or are we going to be playing a guessing game like we do with most Shadowkind?
